Just had the Unified Command Group meeting, Gov. Landry and Sen. Kennedy at the end of the table. Members of the Cabinet and statewide elected officials around the table. I gave a report not long after this pic.

The Gov, the FEMA Administrator, and some of the Cabinet taking off in these Huey helicopters to get an initial assessment of the damages. These things are huge and powerful, pretty amazing to see them take off.

Yeah, today there were about 70 people in the room. 4 were African Americans, and 9 were women. One AA was the soldier stationed at the entrance, you were NOT getting past him without the proper credentials.

I don’t care if there are 70 black women or 70 white transvestites. In an emergency, I want the 70 most qualified people in the room.

We’re under a ‘severe’ tornado watch until 10. I’m planning to watch the Miami Crimson Tide take on the Bills, so, please, no wind.

Count me in the "unsurprised" column that you knew these #'s off the top of your head. While you were keeping track of the DEI quotient in the room, were any black women included in the count? Picture a Venn diagram, which ALL virtuous and intelligent folks like. You get double 'diversity is our strength' points for black women; 3x intersectionality points if they're disabled. Ginormous cottage cheese mud flaps no longer count as a disability, though. Body positivity, and all... And remember, you only get 3/5 of a point for the lunch ladies and janitorial staff, crippled or nah.
Roux wrote:One AA was the soldier stationed at the entrance, you were NOT getting past him without the proper credentials.
"One AA"? A "Friend of Bill's"?? Oh... never mind.

Was the balck doorman intimidating? Was he actually allowed in the room with the UCG? I gots ta know.

BTW, rack Sam for his "70 most qualified people" take. That should be the only stat that matters.

I was keeping track of what was being presented, and focused on my own report. The diversity numbers came to my attention in a conversation after the meeting, when another attendee (white male Republican) told me.

Yes, somewhat intimidating. Not because he was black but because he was a soldier and he was focused. Perhaps kinda like an exceptionally well trained German Shepherd, sitting but very much ready for a command to act.

I knew about half of the attendees, and I promise you they are highly qualified and experienced. Sure seemed like everyone in the room earned their way to their chair. It does feel a bit odd to include myself as so qualified; I don't want to go into the details, but yes, I've been doing this since Katrina.

The Black Hawks were there again today. I'm clueless about their actual capacities, but they seem amazing. When they are on the ground with their engines on, you don't just hear them, you feel it. I suspect that when they get armed with missiles and guns, an opposing force shits their pants upon hearing them on the battlefield.

Experts Warn Hurricane In Hurricane Alley During Hurricane Season Clear Sign Of Climate Change

Image

HOLMES BEACH, FL — Climate experts noted today that hurricane Helene, which is currently forming in hurricane alley during the peak of hurricane season, is undeniable proof of climate change.

"This situation is completely unprecedented," said global warming expert and local dog groomer Rodney Carlson. "I've never seen a hurricane of this magnitude forming in hurricane alley during the hurricane season, and my records go back over 75 days! Clearly, this can only be explained by global warming."

Local resident Sarah Smith said she was also completely shocked by the coming storm. "I was just going to Hurricane Hank's to pick up some of their hurricane meatloaf for dinner, when all of a sudden the town hurricane alarms started going off," Smith noted. "You hear about these things happening in other places, but you never expect them to happen in your town."

"I guess this is the price we pay for destroying the planet with our dangerous CO2 emissions," Smith continued. "Still, I never thought I'd live to see the day that a hurricane hit Florida. Gee, I hope this won't affect this weekend's Miami Hurricanes game!"

At publishing time, climate experts warned that climate change was also expected to cause freezing weather and heavy snow in the Canadian Rockies this winter, followed by high temperatures across Texas next July.

No waves here in Fallbrook. Give it another 20 years of sea level rise and I might be able to walk to the beach.
