[quotD1 talent doesnt make a great team, Long Beach Poly was full of D1 talent and lost to De La Salle who only had a few kids go D1 a couple years ago[/quote]
You're right, DLS didn't have that much D-1 talent

only Gutierez and andri were seniors that year, LB Poly had 7 or 8 senios go D1 that season. Colvin and Glasper were sophomores and didnt get in to the game at Veterans. I dont recall Bates name being called in that game either. Here are a couple of the names I can remember from LB Polys team. Poly seems to have 3 or 4 go D1 every year De La Salle didnt have as much D1 talent but played much better. The years DLS beat Mater Dei, they didnt have the talent the Monarchs had either.

Since St. Ignatius of Cincinnatti was also awarded a national championship in 1989. Did someone write a book about them that I missed?
Maybe I missed the point of the book but I thought the book wasn't so much about the greatness of Permian but rather how important high school football is in the State of Texas.
I know for a fact there were ton's of great teams that could have beaten Permian even in their hay-day, but how many towns of barely over 100K can fill a 20,000 seat stadium for a high school football game.
The City of Converse has about 80K people living there but they manage to fill a stadium of 25000 every damn home game I swear that stadium is a sea of red, it looks like little Nebraska.
Back in 1986 Converse Judson was ranked #2 in USA Today and San Antonio Holmes was ranked #3, when they finally faced off in the playoffs the game sold out Alamo Stadium the first day tickets went on sale. That at the time was a 50,000 seat stadium. BTW that was probably the 2nd best football game I ever witnessed.

There is actually quite a bit to do in Converse seeing as how it is a SA suburb and very close to Gruene and New Braunfels also.

What a left coast elitist attitude to have SoCal. I love the beach, hell I live on one but jesus accept the fact that some/many people do not need a sand box with water or snow to be happy. There are numerous atractions and things to do, for people of the mindset, in New Braunfels. As far as the amuesment park reference, congradulations for
KYOA. The largest water park in the world is located in New Braunfels
Schlitbaum (sp?). It's like the Disney World of water parks. People travel from all over the world to visit it. Octoberfest is
hugel there as well.
