Tim Tebow may never be a consistently functional NFL QB, but he sure is a class guy. Watching his post-game media session just now, damn, that is one guy who really has his head on straight.

Would that the modern athlete were more like him.

I do wonder, though, how do Bronco fans and, in particular, Bronco management, feel regarding Tebow's comment that visiting a kid in a hospital and building homes in the Phillipines is more important to him than winning a game...even an NFL Divisional Round playoff game.

If he were the QB of my team, it wouldn't bother me. Reason being, in no way can the guy be accused of shirking his duties as a member of the team. Just because he has his priorities straight, it doesn't mean he doesn't put in the work on and off the field. Clearly, he does.

Impressive kid.

I can't speak for anyone except myself, but Tebow personifies what I wish more athletes could and should represent....yeah, I think building hospitals in faraway countries is a hell of a lot more important than a football game, regardless of what game it is.....

but the Broncos head office has some important decisions to make....if they stick with Tebow, they're basically committing to an offense that no other quarterback in the NFL can run, so if they decide to go that way and he gets hurt, wtf are they going to do? do I think he can improve? most definitely, he's shown great strides over the last few months...is he ever going to be a great passer, probably not....but it's hard to deny the intangible elements he brings to the table.....

whatever decisions they make, Timmy will still be who he is and what he's about...for that I salute him

it's not an either/or proposition.....he actually can do both

tebow has lots of minor issues to overcome to be a consistent NFL QB while none of these issues by themselves are that significant, collectively they add up to a big problem....

1. throwing motion-his throwing motion, while awkward is fine....the problem though is he simply can't get rid of the ball quickly.....

2. defensive reads-he can't read defensive coverages as fast as is necessary to be successful in the NFL...misses wide open receivers and telegraphs his throws....those things can be improved on, but Denver isn't going to wait for years while he hones those particular skills....

3. indecisive-by far the most glaring weakness.....he simply holds the ball too long....last night I kept screaming at the television "throw the fucking ball"....now part of this may be Fox fault....I've heard over and over again from Fox "we want him to take care of the ball, don't turn it over, don't make mistakes, don't throw interceptions, etc. etc." that would make anybody a little gun shy....

Tebow is going to have to improve significantly in those three areas if Denver is going to have any long term success with Timmy helming the offense....

Felix, yep, Denver's in a tough situation with Tebow. They can't commit long term to their current offensive scheme for the very reason you and every NFL analyst has mentioned, namely, that their offense would grind to a halt the moment Tebow gets hurt, which of course he will. Never mind the fact that this offense simply won't work on any consistent basis.

The flipside is equally troubling. Knowing that they can't commit to this offense, Plan B with Tebow would be to wait until he can become a consistently productive 'normal' NFL QB...assuming he ever can, which is far from certain. If Denver goes that route, what are they committing to? They're committing to a process that, at best, would result in their eventually having an average QB since everyone knows that Tebow is never going to become an elite passing QB in the Brady/Manning/Brees/Rodgers sense. He may eventually become functional, but is it really worth waiting this guy out in the hope that he can become so-so, not excellent?

Winning a Super Bowl in recent years has required an excellent QB, and no Super Bowl has ever been won by a running back-cum-passer. Doesn't winning the Super Bowl have to be Denver's only goal?

I don't know, maybe Denver is hoping Tebow can at least become a Ben Roethlisberger: a big, tough, mobile QB who throws well enough to get the job done. That's definitely about as high as the bar goes, in terms of any fantastical dreams of Tebow as a passer.

Good luck with that, Denver.

The original argument was, and still is, "will Tebow sustain success as a starting QB in the NFL?" Will he be a franchise QB? That still remains to be seen. Nobody has been proven right or wrong to this point. I still don't think he will be, for the myriad of reasons that have been beaten to death in this thread. But, he HAS exceeded my expectations so far.

Thing is, though, people only admire what he's done simply because the bar was set so low. People are in awe over his ability to throw a TD or win a game, yet..........that's his job. We're impressed at what Tebow's done because he's Tebow, but when you look at what he's accomplished in a big picture sense, it's really nothing remarkable at all. Any other QB in this league does what Tebow does, and nobody even bats an eye. Partly because they have higher expectations. Partly because they make their job look much easier. If a guy goes out and throws for 300 yards, 3 tds, 0 ints, and wins the game fairly comfortably, nobody really notices. Yet Tebow plays awful for 99% of the game, makes a couple plays at the end, the Broncos get the win, and Tebow's showered with praise. Somehow, starting a fire, then putting it out, is more praise-worthy than the guy who never started a fire to begin with.

A lot of QBs in this league with some Ws under their belt have come and gone in short order. Look at Vince Young. At one point he was supposed to be the next big thing, then came to a crashing halt. So let's stop acting like "He's arrived and he's here to stay!" (you know who you are).

Admittedly, Tebow's intangibles are much better than Vince Young's but in order for Tebow to succeed, he's truly going to have to be the ultimate exception to the rule. He's gonna have to constantly be one step ahead of NFL defenses (good luck with that) and he's going to have to hope errrrr pray that Denver's defense never sees any significant drop off, because it's extremely unlikely that Denver will ever be able to rely on this offense to perform at a consistently high level. The way they played against Pittsburgh is the way they'll need to play all the time. Again...good luck with that.

I think Denver will have to trade Tebow. Otherwise fans will continue to call for him on every 4th down, not a good situation no matter who their QB will be. The Broncos might keep him for another season, but when that ends badly, I think they'll have to dump him.

Who does he remind me of?

Doug Flutie

Not so much that their games are similar, but that both are/were "gamers", with the deck stacked against them.

You petition the Board to validate your insecurity and weep from being bitch-slapped. Gotcha. What, no self-congratulatory “go ahead and rack me now, Jim”? Wrong medium, Miley - you’ll get better run from your BFFs over on your Facebook page.

Bit premature to be “Crowe-ing” scoreboard, don’tcha think? You do recall that your hero was (figuratively) carried out on his shield at the end, correct? Touching. Death with honor. Just so you are under no illusions of your impending doom.

By the way, you post like a 14-year-old little girl. Own it.

Not to pee in your Muscle Milk, Miley, but even Maximus had sense enough to carry a sword into the Coliseum when he battled the Tiger. What are you gonna do, dump my books in the hall? Shove your iPod under my junk and hope that I die of ball cancer in 25 years? Sorry, but that Hello Kitty backpack you sport to school each day isn’t exactly all that threatening either.

Why am I here? Do you want the Philosophical or should we stick with the Painfully Obvious answer? It would be far too easy to go all Seal Team Six on your stupid ass, drop a helicopter in your backyard in the middle of the night and frag you in your Forever Lazy while you frig yourself to the latest teen heartthrob in Seventeen. But instead, I’ll cut you some slack and simply make light of your weapons-grade stupidity, pathetic naivety, and awkward social retardation. With my work done here, I would expect to be called Home anytime soon.

I disagree. There's no one on Dungver's offense who can, though.

As far as "no other" -- how about the guy who handed Tebow his Heisman on a silver knee-surgery-platter? DSquared could not only run that offense, he could do it better.

How about Darron Thomas? He'd be available for a song.

Cam Newton is spoken for, but could certainly pull it off.

Wheedon could, but he's 43 years old.

Pat White.

Didnt Doug Williams win a super bowl? and, correct me if im wrong, but wasnt he a shitty to mediocre passer? Or mediocre to shitty passer? So there have been exceptions to the rule. Just in case Tebow stays mediocre to shitty. Of course the team around him must improve, cause that Redskins team with Williams at the helm, was good enough to win it all.
On that 87 redskins team that won it all, Williams was pedestrian at best, I think he threw 11 td's that year, somehow, he played impressive enough in that super bowl to win the MVP.
However, when looking at his career as a whole, he was a mediocre to poor passer at best.

Rather than point out the hypocrisy of your drivel being littered with teenie bop references over and over, I will instead commend you on keeping a common theme. Only a KC Tard would say, “you dropped a Miley Cirus and Hello Kitty reference in the same post, therefore, you post like a little girl.”
And kudos for not posting while drunk, bro. It’s not a common occurrence for you. So while your reply actually contains a modicum of sense… this time, your take has as many holes as Denver’s secondary. Hope aboard the bus, little Truf, time to go to school:
Da Truf wrote:You petition the Board to validate your insecurity.
Wrong. You’re referencing a quote from the movie Gladiator. You appear to have seen it, and yet, don’t remember one of the best lines from it. Whatever.
Da Truf wrote:weep from being bitch-slapped.
Wrong. It’s a quote attributed to Alexander the Great. Or a line from the movie Die Hard. It’s obvious at this point you’re rather unlearned and have recall issues. With the way you abuse alcohol/kill brain cells, it’s not really shocking though, is it?
Da Truf wrote:You do recall that your hero was (figuratively) carried out on his shield at the end, correct? Touching. Death with honor. Just so you are under no illusions of your impending doom.
It took an army of men to take out Maximus and that little bitch of a King was complete and total faggot. Are you comparing yourself to him, Truf? Didn’t he want to fuck his sister in that movie? Yeah, that sounds like you alright. Luckily for me, we stop comparing you to Commodus once we get past the lisp, his insatiable desire for cock, and your inbred sexual fantasies. Unlike that villain, you’re a powerless little bitch. Beyond "channeling Pee Wee Herman", what else do you bring to this message board?
Da Truf wrote:Not to pee in your Muscle Milk, Miley, but even Maximus had sense enough to carry a sword into the Coliseum when he battled the Tiger.
He didn’t walk into the Coliseum that day to do battle with a Tiger, you fucking lush. He was fighting another gladiator and the tigers were a surprise. Slam another wobbly-pop, douche. Furthermore, are you really comparing yourself to a tiger? Right genus, but wrong species, bitch. A Smack Pussy is more like it. I barely even need a pen (never mind a sword) to demolish you in this arena. Falling down drunks don’t make for worthy adversaries. FAIL.
Da Truf wrote:With my work done here, I would expect to be called Home anytime soon.
Are you trying to one-up me by attempting your own quote from Gladiator? I sorta see where you were going with this, but you’re missing a word. You expect to be called home? You do? Nice try, Truf. Can we attribute this to your obvious memory loss or is it just another case of you tripping over your own dick?

Regardless, I would expect that your work will soon be done here as well. You’ve received a sarcastic remark from MGO and racks from Mace for all your troubles. Seeing as how the latter is a senile bitter fuck who gets his diaper changed more often than my 2 year old, I don’t put any stock in what this old fart says. I wouldn’t trust this cunt to operate a remote control, much less offer feedback on our battle.

reading that piece almost brought tears to my eyes
Rick Reilly wrote:"Just the opposite," Tebow says. "It's by far the best thing I do to get myself ready. Here you are, about to play a game that the world says is the most important thing in the world. Win and they praise you. Lose and they crush you. And here I have a chance to talk to the coolest, most courageous people. It puts it all into perspective. The game doesn't really matter. I mean, I'll give 100 percent of my heart to win it, but in the end, the thing I most want to do is not win championships or make a lot of money, it's to invest in people's lives, to make a difference."

Felix, did you catch Tebow's time at the podium following the New England blowout? It's not as if I hadn't already seen the guy speak to similar subjects a hundred times before, but he was particularly impressive the other night in his statements regarding those things that matter most in his life. He feels the greatest benefit of his celebrity is simply the "platform" it gives him that others don't have; a platform that blesses him with unique opportunities to travel the world, meet many people, and support good works.

The notion that he's less of a football player because of these activities, as if he could be putting that time into becoming a better player, simply doesn't wash. There is no one in the Denver organization—or the Florida Gators organization—who will deny that the guy is among the first in and last out every day; a workaholic at his craft, who leads by example.

His facility on the field is in no way undermined by his humanitarian efforts off the field. Not at all. Nor is his perspective on the relative lack of importance of playing football anything but spot on.

The guy simply has it right, all down the line.

He's just not a very effective NFL QB, is all. To his credit, he knows that while this is true, it's also not all that important in the grand scheme of things. He'll do his level best to improve and compete, and let the chips fall where they may. At the end of the day, there are bigger fish to fry.

Oh, and uncant? C'mon, the emperor's sister was hotter than hell. As freaky as Joaquin Phoenix is, you can hardly blame dude for wanting summa dat.

Ah. Fun with cut-and-paste. Mad lay-out skills honed, no doubt, in your fifth-hour yearbook lab.

You DO realize how tedious a quote-reply-quote-reply response reads to a message board, correct? Fuckin’ thread killer. Might as well send fuckin’ text messages. Which, given your writing style, is why we’re here.

I know what I posted, Miley. Just girl-toss your smack balloons and get the fuck out. Then find a trench and kiss your ass goodbye while you’re buried under the return barrage.

Since the brain synapses of the average 14-year-old little girl fire at the speed-of-slight, it’s interesting to observe my state of being regress from stone sober in your second paragraph to shit-face drunk in your sixth.

Oh, the travails of youth. What, with the distractions of shopping, homework, getting your silly ass boot-stomped on a message board, your kitty, Facebook, and being offered as a burnt sacrifice to the Gods of Smack, I could see where you might be a bit confused.

By-the-way, Miley, drawing Mace into your Grand Delusion isn’t your cleverest move. Mace’s farts have forgotten more smack than you’ll ever craft. Respect your elder, young’un, lest you find yourself rendered into hog slop. Those porkers have been known to eat just about anything.

But to the task at hand. Just a point-or-three, and then I’ll leave you to your menstruations.

Commodus, Miley? Really? Oh, the epicosity. Suck a cock while you fuck your sister. Bet the Smack Pantheon will name a wing in your honor with that Scud. And it would be high entertainment watching you try to operate a pen with both thumbs.

And since you are not about the to let the “truf” (c’mon, Miley don’t make me write this stuff for you) get in the way of your heroically pedestrian smack efforts, and at the risk of drawing yet another one of your withering, epcot IKYABWAI balsts, I believe it was you who referenced The Spaniard’s quote and turned it into a cry for acceptance from the good denizens of this Board.

But to answer your question, “No, we are not ‘entertained’. Bored, piteous, maybe even a bit disgusted. Quit posting like a little girl.”

Lastly, Miley, the very next time you decide to correct one of my musings, you might want to apply a bit of comprehension to your efforts. Did you not ask me what my purpose was here? Let me put this in no uncertain terms that even you can follow:

It’s to burn you at the stake alive.

With that work of Providence completed, yes, I DO expect to be called Home anytime soon.

I was going to suggest to Scott that this thread be archived - but thought better of it, because I'm pretty sure we'll want to pull this bad boy up again this fall.

or even sooner

brady quinn

I didn't think quinn's remarks to GQ were all that inflammatory but the press decided to make it an issue....the press were outraged at quinn and his disrespect toward tebow....

Brady Quinn Ripped Tim Tebow In GQ:
We've had a lot of, I guess, luck, to put it simply." He also said he felt the fans were the reason Tebow leapfrogged him on the depth chart when supplanting Kyle Orton as the starter after a 1-4 start.

"I felt like the fans had a lot to do with that," Quinn said in the article. "Just `cause they were chanting his name. There was a big calling for him. No, I don't have any billboards. That would have been nice."
this constitutes "ripping him"? never mind the fact that everything Quinn said was 100% factual, somebody's vagina got hurt.....

Well, he also mentioned something about Tebow's prayer antics seeming a little less than "humble."

I intentionally left that off....I think one christian criticizing how another christian chooses to celebrate his faith is not only stupid, but conveys a certain pettiness on quinns part....it added nothing to the story and made quinn look like a tool....

Still nowhere near as gay-looking as the one for which his successor at ND, Jimmy Clausen, is famous...

Give him a chance. He can compete at that level. It looks like a long afternoon of crotch grabbing and boner touching.
