Confusing a definition with causation isn't helpful. Just the word 'inflation' gives you an intuitive definition. The idea that it's the money supply was falsified in Britain in the 1980's, that was a failed experiment.

The effects of the Minimum Wage Tariff in my home state of NY have caused the prices of double smashburgers to uhhh… double.

Nonetheless, that’s not technically inflation because at least my extra dollars are raising awareness (and wages!!) for all low-income employees. Virtuous behavior positively influenced by the government is progressive and thus anti-inflation.
