Steph Curry just signed a 62 and a half million dollar extension for one year. The most by an American athlete in history.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/410 ... -extension

Guess how he celebrated.

He just gave $25 million dollars of it to Oakland public schools.

The Chef is the GOAT in more ways than just basketball.

I liked it because I grew up watching Ralph Williams Ford commercials....but

This "gag" commercial never aired of course. The pitchman was well known in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1960s-70s.

But hell no. Palo Alto was the center of all that was good in the universe. All those other burgs - Mountain View, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Fucking Carlos… - were second class wannabes, at best. San Francisco was where Dad went to work, and an occasional trip to Candlestone.

I haven't followed it that closely but I knew that the whole thing has been a huge clusterfuck. Playing in Suckramento for three years is a bad joke. It's too bad because that team has a great legacy, if you go back far enough.

My best buddy and I cut a week of HS (with parents and teachers knowledge) to go see the As vs the Reds in 1972. We drove across the Dumbarton Bridge to the station at the end of the first BART line (which had just opened a few weeks before) in Fremont, hid out behind a hill next to the parking lot, and smoked joints before hopping on the train to the Coliseum. Seats in the right field bleachers were $5.00 apiece from Ticketron. The first game in Oakland was "hailed" out, believe it or not. Reggie didn't play at all in the series due to a hamstring injury but Gene Tenace stepped up with four HR and 9 RBIs. The Reds took all three games in Oakland, but the As won all four in Cincy to win the series.

Good times.

Yeah, the A's had some great teams and players. I always liked the A's and Raiders. If they did well, I was happy for them. Unlike, Raider and A's fans. They've always hated the 49ers and Giants. I think it's little brother syndrome.

A's fans are pissed around here and rightfully so.

'Gonna say some s—t tonight!': Rancid, Green Day rail against A's owner at SF show

“We don’t take no s—t from people like John f—king Fisher, who sold out the A’s to Las f—king Vegas!” Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told the 40,000-plus people in the stadium. “I f—king hate Las Vegas! It’s the worst s—thole in America. Can you feel me?”

Armstrong’s sentiment about the A’s echoed those heard earlier in the evening from his friend Lars Frederiksen from Rancid, which, like Green Day, is from the East Bay: Berkeley, to be precise. Green Day and Rancid predecessor Operation Ivy both got their start playing at 924 Gilman, an all-ages punk club in Berkeley with a capacity of around 500 people. Their stories are indelibly intertwined, and they feel the same about their baseball.

“Yeah, I’m gonna say some s—t tonight!” Frederiksen said with a wide smile. “I wanna say f—k John Fisher! His whole family makes money off the backs of Bay Area people and then he wants to f—k off to Vegas. F—k him, that rich-kid motherf—ker!”

He added, “Thank God we’ve still got the Giants!” and, “We froze our asses off at Candlestick since we were little pups.”

Did you even read the fucking story? Can you even fucking read? Capitalism 101 teaches you have to spend money to make money.

Anyway, I'll take your bitch ass to school here real quick. In 2005, Forbes valued the A's at $185 million. In 2024, Forbes valued the A's at $1.2 billion.

Since you're a fucking idiot, I'll do the math for you. Converting the $185 million to 2024 dollars, that's $300 million. $300 million to $1.2 billion is an increase of 300%. In short, the valuation of the A's has increased 300% since Fisher bought the franchise, and that's before he gets his new stadium.

Do you understand? Imagine if Fisher actually spent some decent money putting a decent product on the field instead of competing for the league's lowest payroll every year. The A's could have sold even more tickets!

Dumpsucker logic, engage!

Now fuck yourself, loser.

Country Bumpkin buisness logic doesn't work when you're playing with big boy buisness money.

That's why people in San Francisco have money... and people in North Dakota, well don't.

Let me help you out here. Take the Warriors for example, an organization that will spend whatever it takes to win and put a good product out there for their fanbase.

Lacob has a net worth of around $2 billion, per Forbes. His ownership group purchased the Warriors in 2010 for $450 million and has since seen the team's value skyrocket to $7.7 billion.

The Athletics meanwhile rank 29th at $1.18 billion, a value lower than the $1.5 billion the team's stadium is expected to cost in Las Vegas.

Pssst... The Warriors built their new Arena with their own money and didn't ask the public to fund it.
It cost around $1.5 billion to build. Guess who keeps all the profits from the games, concessions, concerts, events, etc.???

The arena is a few blocks away from where the San Francisco Giants play.

That's called smart buisness. The liberal buisness model. The Warriors went from one of the least valued teams in basketball to one of the most valued in all of sports.

Smart buisness people know you have to spend money to make money.

The Chase Center where the Warriors play and off to the right is where the Giants play.

Let me put this into terms you can understand.
You make $10,000/month
Your monthly expenses are $8,000
You have $2,000/month in cash for hookers & blow. Life's good.

Suddenly your income drops to $5,000/month
Your monthly expenses are still $8,000
If you can't cover all of your expenses, large men from the Rent To Own Center show up take your shit back to the store.
To prevent imminent shit-taking, where do you get the other $3,000 each month? You don't have it from income. So where does it come from?

Perhaps the value of your home has increased...oh wait you don't know anything about that.
Maybe the value increased on your classic car...shit, no. That doesn't work either.
Maybe you own your appliances outright and they have value...fuck you don't own those either.
Goddam, man, do you own anything that isn't depreciating? No wonder you can't figure out how this works.

You're absolutely correct. The way you grow value in a sports franchise is to build a product that fans want to support with their money. But the value of the team does not equate to income that can be spent on expenses. You seem to be missing that part. Fisher doesn't "get rich" until he sells the team. Understand?

5,000 tickets/game probably doesn't even cover the electricity, let alone concessions and security workers. Should Fisher spend more money to build a product people will pay to see? Sure. And if my aunt had testicles she'd be my uncle.
