The jury is still out on Alex Smith (to say the least) and Brees operated from both the shotgun and from under center, so that's not a great comparison.

Actually it is a good comparison because Vince also didn't spend his entire career in the shotgun, we do use our fullback quite a bit.

I didn't say he couldn't find and hit the open receiver. I said he didn't have as many progressions to go through. Your own coach even said that Young plays better with less coaching.

Thats not what Brown said at all, he said that trying to change his throwing motion was causing more harm than good. It wasn't til they decided to stop coaching his throwing motion that he began to really improve as a QB.

I watched all of the Rose Bowl, all of the OSU game, and good portions of the TAM, OU, and OSU games. Vince rarely went through 5 progressions.

Actually he did quite a bit, generally speaking our TE and runningbacks were at the bottom of the progression chart. All you have to do is look at our receiving stats from last year to know that he did very well in his progressions. Texas had 4 receivers with 27 or more catches.

No one here is saying that Young was a shitty college QB or that he wasn't a great athlete. What we are saying is that he has a lot more to do to be successful in the NFL than take a snap from the shotgun, look at 2-3 receivers and then run.

VY may be 6'5" and run a 4.3, but there are linebackers who are almost as big, and just as fast.

Yea there might be linebackers that are big and fast but none of them are used to hitting a QB as big and fast as Vince is. No one is saying that Vince is going to lead his team to the Superbowl in his first season, most QBs need time to get used to the speed of the NFL game, but most guys here are acting like he ain't smart enough to get it done and that just isn't the case. He has all the tools to not only be a great QB but to dominate like never before. Most NFL teams I've read are not concerned about neither his throwing motion or his Wonderlic score. The fact is he gets the job done like no QB they have ever seen before.

what are you willing to wager that in 5 years Young will either be an All Pro or a dud?

Sucker bet, just about every NFL QB that is not an All-Pro is considered a dud. The only gray area are those QBs still considered growing in the position.

Name one QB that has been in the NFL for more than 5 years that has not been to a Pro Bowl that is not considered a dud? Hell I could name a couple that have been to a pro bowl that are still considered duds.

That's fine. The quote I read had no context to it, so it could have been talking about his mechanics, or you could have thought Mack was saying that Young played better when they just let him go out and run around.

Well, I disagree. But then again, it was only the 4th Texas game I saw all year. Young appeared to drop back and look for his 2 WR's, then the TE, and then run. Rarely did the backs get looked at as receivers and if they did, they were at the beginning of his progressions.

They may not be used to hitting a QB as big and fast as VY, but they're used to hitting WR's who are. VY is a physical freak, on the college level. He may be one on the NFL level, but if he is, I think it will be in the same respect that Vick is. A great athlete playing QB, who could dominate the NFL at another position.

The two big differences between Vick and Young is that Vick is 6'0 while Young is 6'5. Young can see over the line while Vick must look between the line. Young can see the whole field while Vick sees the field the way one would looking through a picket fence. This is the biggest reason Vick has trouble passing in the NFL. Also, Vick was no where close to Young as a passer coming out of college, Vince will continue to improve and as he does he will become more and more impressive. Keep in mind that he beat the two best defenses he faced with his arm no his legs.

I pity every team that passes on him in the draft.
