Sorry I call bullshit. I do not have a problem with the Leinart/Jarret controversy. To put it bluntly I paid more rent than any of my other three room mates in college. One of them didn't pay a single red cent and I paid his portion as well as mine. I can think of numerous other people I went to school with who had the same things going on. That isn't that uncommon. Now a ratio of more than $3 to $1is a bit excessive but fuck it, if Leinarts' daddy can afforded it then more power to 'em.

Believe the Heupel wrote:I agree that it's a violation of the letter of the law moreso than the spirit. If it were the only instance in the USC program right now of improper benefits, then it wouldn't be any kind of a deal at all.

HOWEVER, under the strict letter of the NCAA bylaws, it's a violation, and a pretty major one.

Now, take the following example as to why this kind of behavior is illegal (not that I think this is anywhere near what happened here.)

Suppose you have a kid who's marginally talented in basketball and you happen to own a large share of, say, Wal-Mart. You happen to be a big fan of a major university located in the fictional town of Sholumbus, Smisouri, and support the University of Smisouri with large financial gifts-including building them a shiny new arena named after someone who cheated her way through, say, UCLA.

Smisouri offers your kid a scholarship and you decide that you want your kid to have a nice place to live, so you build a big ass house for your kid to live in. So big, in fact, that a bunch of his teammates can live there-all your kid asks in return is the other players housing stipends.

Any similarity to any school is purely unintentional and should be disregarded.
I laughed.

A buddy of mine came from Black Hawk CA, for those that don't know this means he was loaded. His dad bought him a house to live in while in college so he didn't have to worry about things like rent. 5 of my friends lived there and each paid him rent of which he used for spending money. The funny part is his dad gave him a Jag to drive and he didn't like the looks he got so his dad also gave him a Taurus to avoid the awkward moments.
