I had also heard so many times about how much of an asshole Phil was. I was pleasantly surprised when I met with him, and my opinion has changed of him since then.

He may BE an asshole. He just wasn't to me. I can only judge him based upon what I have seen, not what someone else, who may or may not have an agenda, reports about him.

You met him at a pool?

Perhaps he just wasn't appropriatley dressed for a picture?
Yeah, his mantits were in full force.

Precisely why I jumped on my buddy's case. His kids are right there. His mantits are popping out. Of course he doesn't want a picture. He was probably relieved to be having a conversation about something other than golf until my friend fucks up the whole thing.

Absolutely "fair enough."

I woul;d hope you felt this way.

I've never met Phil, so I will rely on the information that's been presented to me to form an opinion (not that I could really give a poo how the guy acts on the other side of the country from me, I just dislike the phoniness). Should I ever be presented with the opportunity to meet him, I will of course throw out any speculation about the guy, and judge hoim on the merits of our meeting.

But once again, your meeting was in a public place, in front of lots of PGA fans. The naysayers all agree that this is where Phil shines -- when his public image is on the line...if he is in fact a jackass, how many times do you think he would have to be rude to fans in public before his sponsors gave him the axe?

I also read anonymous accounts of the exchange between Phil and Vijay in the clubhouse after Veej informed the officials about the spike marks. The ONLY person who gave a different account of this story was...you'll NEVER guess who? Yeah, Phil.

And on that note, what sort of jackass does it take to bitch and jump up in faces when HE'S the one guilty of marking up green at a PGA event (in the first group of the day, no less).

HOW LONG has this guy been playing golf? And one day, he suddenly "just forgot"(or whatever his weak excuse was) that you're supposed to tap down spike marks that you leave? There's few things in the professional environment that scream out "you're beneath me" than tearing up wet greens with hard spikes and then not bothering to fix them. Hell, I do that, as does everyone I ever play with...and I'm guessing Phil has logged more time on a course than all of us put together.

And how fucking lame is it when HE commits a violation of the rules, and somehow spins it into getting in the face of the guy who was being hurt by the illegal actions?

THAT was straight-up PUNK. Funny as hell that they got grouped up that Sunday, though. Of course, Phil tried to spin it into "no big deal." Sorry Phildo -- if you want that shit to stay behind closed doors, you might want to start treating your coworkers with at least a modicum of respect -- it's a two-way street, regardless how you percieve those other guys being beneath you. Otherwise, go ahead and assume that they're going to toss you under the bus with impunity.

Don't know if you guys caught/remember the Grand Slam last year, with the players "miked-up," but Tiger was polite but VERY distant towards Phil -- who, since there was microphones involved, was trying to be chummy with Tiger...who can't stand the guy, allegedly.

**Whiney Voice** Tiger, did you see my ball...I can't find my ball...did you see my ball, Tiger? Wha wha wha, Tiger. Where's my ball, Tiger?

Tiger: Sorry man...wasn't watching....:barely-detectable-by-the-camerasROLLEYES:

Shit cracked me up...especially when Stevo started rolling his eyes and making faces(barely caught by the cameras).

hehehe

In my regular golf circle, when someone places their ball well-ahead of their marker, we call that "Vijaying the mark." Usually accompanied by a "go ahead and put that anywhere you want, Vijay." Or "dude, that's a nasty ball mark with a bad repair job in your line...go ahead and Vijay that one, bro."

Oh he cheats, just off the course. Rumor is he impregnated a black chick in Vegas and paid for the abortion. SI was going to run w/ it but the story ended up disappearing like a fart in the wind.

I will chalk that up with a "Link?"

Otherwise, STFU.

hmmmm

quite some Opinions about Phily McGriddlePants.

i only have positive feedback in his honor.

when the Open was at Inverness in 1993; he came off of a green during a practice round and noticed that my buddy had on a Tie-Dyed
Fairway Blues Shirt...who he endorsed--->it was a "nice shirt" and "nice shirt" exchange....and when he was in Toledo last summer for his "baseball career launch..."--->my man Todd from Brondes Ford said that him and Rick Smith were GREAT the whole time that they were here.

Phil's phoniness is doing quite well..and has been for a long time.

Question?

why should you be Friends or even cordial with your PEERS in an individual sport?

Ryder Cup?

(oh, that's really important....see our recent success.)

all of these guys have cliques of friends. Phil's Friends are "well documented".

sure, people will swear that he's an Ass...who's people are they though?

out

Duemeg (sp?) said that the SI article was going to be about massive gambling losses and being into some "connected" guys in Vegas. I never heard him say anything about knocking up another woman. He's an ex tour golfer, he generally sticks up for golfers. For him to throw Lefty under the bus says something.

He definitely did mention something about marital misconduct when he brought that up.

Yea, because NOBODY would have a motive to try to cut down Phil Mickelson.

Do I think Lefty is capable of having ugly moments? Hell yea. But then again, so is everybody.

BTW: This just in...
Walter Driver, president of the United States Golf Association, said: "Colin Montgomerie and Jim Furyk were both asked to attend the ceremony but only Phil Mickelson was gracious enough to accept."
Ouch

You're not getting it B. Phil does all that USGA promotional bullshit and kisses ass so the public perception will be favorable and so he can mke millions in endorsements. Its when he's a dick in the Locker Room and to the other players on Tour when the cameras aren't rolling.

Lemme guess, you thought JFK was a documentary?

So you seriously think that Phil Mickelson has, whenever he has knowingly or unknowingly been in front of a camera or mic, buried his "true personality" for the past 15+ years only to reveal said "true personality" at only the times when nobody had a camera or tape recorder running?

Well isn't that special.

I'm sure that could be said for every player on tour. I'm sure there are those golfers who like Phil and think Tiger is a dick, and vice versa.

You're knocking Phil for attending the ceremony as a P.R. stunt, when he had every reason to decline, and no one would have questioned him about it if he did.

Look, Phil is agreat golfer. I was 15 when I watched my first Masters from Thursday to Sunday. That was the year that Norman choked, but Phil came in 3rd and he even led for a little bit of the Tourney. He was this 24 year old phenom who looked like he was just happy to be playing w/ two greats and everyone fell in love w/ him, including me. Over the years though, I have heard to many stories from players and reporters about what a dick this guy is off the course. That doesnt mean I dont root for him to win a lot of the time, but I also am not naive enough anymore to buy into his nice guy routine. Some guys are dicks and some are not. As long as he is a good father and doesnt get into trouble w/ the law, he isnt a horrible person in my eyes, just a little fake.
