Agreed, but why stop at this thread? Lock the entire board. It's just as bad.

Yet you keep viewing/posting.

Step 1) Grab ahold of the mouse
Step 2) Drag to the upper right corner of your browser
Step 3) Center arrow on the "X"
Step 4) Left Click

Problem solved.

That's just wrong. Plain and simple.

You'll have to answer for that some day.
I kinda like it. Gets the Grace Jones vibe ('Coming to America'.. Ms. Strange' ... ha) and the differently-sexually-oriented nutcake vibe together in one swoop. I kinda like it. But I wanna keep this one, you know... in J. Meds honor. ;)

IB, forgive me for saying this but you ninny.

Do you even know WHAT Donovan is referencing when he says that? For someone so up on blackness, you should do a little research on that one.

I wasn't insulting anyone. It was a joke, and it looks like it was taken the wrong way. So, go back to shitting all over whatever "superior" board you usually post on, or maybe go ponder why you should bother continuing your obviously worthless life. Whichever you prefer.

I'm a huge Nina Simone fan and she was doing a cover of the Billie Holiday song. (My future baby's mama Cassandra Wilson did a nice cover of that song on "New Moon Daughter" which you should check out)

It is truly hard for me to be offended by much of anything on here but that came closer than I would have thought it would. I know you aren't a malicious person (I've said worse shit than that myself to others in years past but I hear that song and think of things and images I'd rather not. Kind of like the whole pile of ashes and the reaction it got from some in the "Who's Your Favorite Jew?" thread).

No worries. I'm back to my old tasteless self. What's even MORE disappointing to me is that I.B. badly misinterpreted that reference. She may need to blow the dust off her copy of "Lady Sings The Blues" and watch it a little more carefully.

Donovan just ignore The Doktor. He is doing a really bad imitation of himself from TheVentonline and The Badlands, shitting on any legacy he may have left on those places. This hit and run drivel he's been posting of late is truly terrible and his attempts to bait me are of no avail.

The joke was the insult. Invictus took offense to the 'joke'; me, I knew it was an insult, it just didn't hit me in exactly what way the insult was meant until Invictus pointed it out. And he's right.

I do have to say, that was one of the most clever ways of putting the insult. Shit is so blunt around here; if it ain't wytchin' or homo/midget/racesmack or three stanza warblings, it gets lost in the shuffle. Wytchin' and homo/midget/racesmack and tarkus covers have their place. But so should cleverly referenced single line devastators.

'Strange Fruit' makes me cry and smile at the same time, that's why. Some songs move you. That song moves me. Desert island, When World's Collide, Heaven's Waiting Room... that would be one of the song's I'd take with me, or give to someone else to let them know just how horrible and beautiful this world can be at the same time.

'Lady Sings the Blues' is depressing. Time for some 'Mahogany'.. good vibes, good vibes (saw that a long time ago, at a drive in theatre during the 70s. Kids today just don't understand what it was like to sneak in, first run movies under the light of the moon, and a free show if you had the right rooftop. nah, it's all downloads and spoilers and shit now. bah. I thought diana ross was the most beautiful and most talented woman in the world; and i thought billy dee the most debonair, charismactic and handsome, up on that screen. he kicked superfly *and* shaft to the curb... nobody kicks superfly *and* shaft to the curb. but billy dee did.)

What's this about 'who's your favorite jew'? what? the only offensive thing i've seen you post is those queencindy and southerncandy and stuffmyasstheresstillroom methporn sites.

I was not familiar with the song until Invictus posted. I googled it up. Powerful lyrics. Knowing a little of Donovan’s posting history, I was kind of shocked that he would post something like that, if indeed he was referencing that song. I probably would have been outraged if it had been directed at anyone else.

Southern trees bear strange fruit,

Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

BTW, if anyone can tick Invictus off, you've really done something.
OK, this is my first look at this. It's not as if the guy is celebrating things. Clearly the lyrics offer a bit of illustrative constrast (for the thick-headed, he's evoking the beauty and lushness of the south, and contrasting that with the unspeakable ugliness of a lynching). It's powerful poetry, not KKK dogma.

Agreed completely. Having said that, however, the "strange fruit" referred to in the lyrics was obviously the bodies of lynching victims. So I could definitely see where a poster might take such a reference to him/herself, or for that matter to another poster, as offensive. That would be especially true where the poster in question is African-American.

Nobody was suggesting that anyone was celebrating anything, or that this was KKK dogma. You did read where Billie Holliday recorded the song?

Risa and I don't always see eye to eye, but I've enjoyed reading her more or less throughout the years. That's all.

The fact "[you] probably would have been outraged if it had been directed at anyone else." and you weren't because it was Risa, is very telling that my sky is a hell of a lot more clear than yours.

It was a fucking digusting thing to say to anyone.

Tom,

If you look at my response to Annie, I gave her my serious reaction. It seemed really out of character for Donovan. Somewhat puzzling. He kind of apologized for it, so I was going to let it go.

The last sentence, ”I probably would have been outraged if it had been directed at anyone else”, was just a dig at Annie, since she seemed to think that everyone owed her a response on this subject. And she is an incredibly bad poster.

LOL!!!

Years ago (I'm talking 2000-2003, roughly), she was a compelling poster. Her main strength was in calling people out for their obvious bullshit, a la The Cinder Wars and things of that nature.

She completely fell apart though as a poster in the last couple years. Her racial/gender obsessions completely overwhelmed her and now she's simply unable to get out of her own way either mentally or especially emotionally.

She jumped the shark when she went overboard in inviting and even getting off on other people ripping her to shreads. That's when she became a peculiar type of Troll, whereby her main mission became to push people's buttons by throwing herself over and over on racial grenades...

Sad. She has a lot of ability. She just can't get out of her way emotionally to where she can use her abilities. As a result, yeah, she now well and truly sucks as a poster.

The first one. If anyone is deserving of a virtual lynching (we can do it for all of the women out there and think of it as an insurectionary act-Invictus, your thoughts?) it would be the defender of rapists everywhere (as long as the skin color is right, of course)....

Hello, Python.

I don't have anything to say, Sam, except to say how many times have you used the actions of one person (or several) to paint the entire group?

Remember Katrina? if I remember correctly, you and Tom in VA danced around the differences between looting and foraging. You wanted anyone breaking and entering shot on site. Tom... had a different opinion. Your comments (like RIK/Tigrdog's, boy he was pissed and dazed during those days, and like tentallben) were directed towards those n.egroes. Tom was directed towards everyone. I say that to say, think about it. Why are you allowed the luxury, or rather why do you allow yourself the luxury of completely owning only your actions and not being responsible for anyone else's actions -- good or bad -- without ever having to deal with the question of completely owning your actions? you just don't think about it, or have to make that decision. it just is. why?
