Agreed, but why stop at this thread? Lock the entire board. It's just as bad.JCT wrote:

Should we say things like that after all insults on a "smack" board?Donovan wrote:All apologies if I offended you. No malice intended.

I wasn't insulting anyone. It was a joke, and it looks like it was taken the wrong way. So, go back to shitting all over whatever "superior" board you usually post on, or maybe go ponder why you should bother continuing your obviously worthless life. Whichever you prefer. The Doktor wrote:Should we say things like that after all insults on a "smack" board?Donovan wrote:All apologies if I offended you. No malice intended.

I'm a huge Nina Simone fan and she was doing a cover of the Billie Holiday song. (My future baby's mama Cassandra Wilson did a nice cover of that song on "New Moon Daughter" which you should check out)Donovan wrote:You not a Nina Simone fan, vic? :?

Donovan just ignore The Doktor. He is doing a really bad imitation of himself from TheVentonline and The Badlands, shitting on any legacy he may have left on those places. This hit and run drivel he's been posting of late is truly terrible and his attempts to bait me are of no avail.Donovan wrote:I wasn't insulting anyone. That was the one good thing about 'the Vent', and the least appealing thing about 'the new world' and the post-troll stop SCIII: no fake apologies/buttering up.The Doktor wrote:Should we say things like that after all insults on a "smack" board?Donovan wrote:All apologies if I offended you. The joke was the insult. Invictus took offense to the 'joke'; me, I knew it was an insult, it just didn't hit me in exactly what way the insult was meant until Invictus pointed it out. And he's right.Donovan wrote:I wasn't insulting anyone. It was a joke, and it looks like it was taken the wrong way. It is truly hard for me to be offended by much of anything on here but that came closer than I would have thought it would. I know you aren't a malicious person (I've said worse shit than that myself to others in years past but I hear that song and think of things and images I'd rather not. Kind of like the whole pile of ashes and the reaction it got from some in the "Who's Your Favorite Jew?" thread).
No worries. I'm back to my old tasteless self. What's even MORE disappointing to me is that I.B. badly misinterpreted that reference. She may need to blow the dust off her copy of "Lady Sings The Blues" and watch it a little more carefully.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you.Donovan wrote:I wasn't insulting anyone. It was a joke, and it looks like it was taken the wrong way. I was not familiar with the song until Invictus posted. I googled it up. Powerful lyrics. Knowing a little of Donovan’s posting history, I was kind of shocked that he would post something like that, if indeed he was referencing that song. I probably would have been outraged if it had been directed at anyone else.Risa wrote:^^^ no one else (donovan excluded) has anything to say to this? :? no one? not a soul? may i ask of you all, why not?Invictus wrote:It is truly hard for me to be offended by much of anything on here but that came closer than I would have thought it would. OK, this is my first look at this. It's not as if the guy is celebrating things. Clearly the lyrics offer a bit of illustrative constrast (for the thick-headed, he's evoking the beauty and lushness of the south, and contrasting that with the unspeakable ugliness of a lynching). It's powerful poetry, not KKK dogma.Sudden Sam wrote:For those who've never heard it or seen the lyrics. Very powerful.
Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.
Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.
Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.
Written by a Jewish schoolteacher from the Bronx, Abel Meeropol.
BTW, if anyone can tick Invictus off, you've really done something.
Agreed completely. Having said that, however, the "strange fruit" referred to in the lyrics was obviously the bodies of lynching victims. So I could definitely see where a poster might take such a reference to him/herself, or for that matter to another poster, as offensive. That would be especially true where the poster in question is African-American.PSUFAN wrote:OK, this is my first look at this. It's not as if the guy is celebrating things.
