Wags, it was a good signing. Nothing more, nothing less. We'll all SEE.

Sept. 16 looks good on the College Football calender (as I posted in the CF forum), but it may suck ass.

Point is, Law's signing isn't an end-all/be-all, just as Sept. 16 isn't necessarily the end-all/be-all to CF.

P.S. RACK Indy for stirring things up in here.

No, and ..... no.

Nobody other than the most sheepish homer would say such things and actually believe them.

These type of statements are why Chef fan gets laughed at on this board.

Denver is clearly the AFC West favorite, and there are a few AFC teams that a rational person would list as SB contenders.
Kansas City isn't one of them.

KC missed the playoffs last year.
KC's aging offense is a year older, and at this point they are not honing their craft, getting better, ... etc. ... NO, they are hanging on ...... and quite possibly ready for a fade.
KC's defense (if you call it that) gave up 5.4 yds per play last year, and only 4 teams in the league did WORSE than that crap.
A new coaching regime has been brought in, and the head man has not particulary distinguished himself in the league.
In fact, his team LAST year totally tanked on him.

So KC drafted defense and they brought in a good, but past-his-prime, CB.

This jumps them ahead of Denver as the West favorite ..... ?

No, it does not.

This makes them a 'legit' SB contender ..... ?

No, it does not.

All it means is that they made some moves which they HOPE will improve the team.

Sort of the same thing that nearly EVERY team in the league did in the off-season.

Pops take is ok. However, I disagree with the Chiefs offense aging part. It's true they are a veteran group. Injuries are a big concern. However, media and rival fans have been saying the same thing for 3 years now. The offense has also went out there an proved them wrong for 3 years now.

They will do it again if they stay healthy. They may drop off a little. Even if they do they're still a top 10 offense.

I can't deny the Chiefs didn't make the playoffs last year. However, how many teams in the history of the NFL have won 10 games and not made the playoffs again? They didn't get it done but your point is kinda irrelevant to this season anyway.

Nice job of pointing out Herm's LAST year with the Jets. I'm sure injuries had minimal effect on that teams performance.

I can come up with a list much like Pop's for every team in the NFL. Big fucking deal.

I will say Denver is still the favorite to win the AFC West. However, don't bet on it. The team that wins the AFC West seems to change nearly every year.

Damn.......

Spend a week in Mexico and come home to find all of this?

First things First:

Chiefs Signing Law is huge. Just fucking Huge.

Why?

The Chiefs of 2005, with a defense of wet tissue paper, were one game away from the playoffs. A Wildcard spot was one game away. And Who won the fuckin' Super Bowl? A wildcard team.

So what would Law have meant on last years team? My thought is at least two wins - Dallas, Philly or Buffalo - Take your pick. Law is not only an outstanding corner, but more importantly a leader on field. The KC defense actually has some fucking athletes - They just seemed to get that deer in the headlights thing late in games and shit got away. My guess is it doesn't happen with Law out there.

Do we really need to discuss the Chiefs Offense? Lead the League in Yards and # 6 in total Points. Returning the entire unit in tact. Toss in that Larry Johnson, based on his average in the 9 games he started, would have broken the single season rushing record had he started from day one and I don't think there's too much shit you Haytahs can stick to that wall.

This is the last run for the KC O - Shields and Roaf will retire after 2006.
But if the Chiefs stay healthy there's no reason KC can't contend for the AFC crown.

---------------------------------

Onto the bitch slapping -

Doink fans - Who's your running back this year? Is Plummer gonna suddenly start making all the right decisions? How's he gonna play with the rook looking over his shoulder? Good team - that got tore down in a home playoff game. Yeah..... it sounds familiar.

Blot Fan - Martyball with Rivers at QB. Sweeeeet. Here's how it will sound:
"LT around the left side for 3 yards. LT up the middle for 2 yards. 3rd and 5 Rivers passes to Gates for 3 yards. On comes the punting unit"

Tart & RJ - I gotta hand it to you two. Here I sit having taken your cash year in and year out and yet you still wanna bang bang? Shit..... you were 2 losses away from the Worst record in the league. Tart had his check in the mail to me after week 7. Bwa at you and the raggedy ass Duh's who should once again be in competition for # 1........... draft pick that is. Watching RJ melt after Brooks hits 14 INTs by week 6 should be woth a few more Hee Haws. As always I'll lay my $50 the Chiefs have a better record by season end. The only easier money than this is shorting any company with .com in their name right before earnings.

As for my KC brethren and fellow DOTRF:

KC has ruled the Rome NFL boards since their inception. While it is a right we have won through many battles, it has not been without it's tribulations that some of you have caused

Paul - take a pill, forget you have emoticons and don't ever feel the necessity to post Hiroshima pic again. Seriously. Do I need to start writing your posts again for you?

Wags - if you were a McDonalds sandwich you'd be the McTard. Your penchent for using words you've recently found in Roget's notwithstanding, you've been at the bottom of more piles than anyone not named jess or M2. While the chronic cric in your neck is usually due to sucking, this year it will be from looking up at me in the JAFFL standings.

Orc - A little Myopic homerism was a nice touch. Now get back to work, I'm not paying you for intelligent football commentary.

Nix, 6 Pac, RadioFan and anybody I forgot - Welcome back my Friends to the show that never ends.

Too any of you I may have forgotten - I forgot.

War Mas Tequilia in a special numbered bottle - I am out.

Nice freaking L E A P, Scott.

Only had to Evel Knievel over the Grand Canyon to get to the fantasy conclusion that the Chefs were ..... THIS ..... close to winning the whole ball of wax last year.

Wagon and Paul jizzed to that, but nobody above single-digit IQ is buying that nonsense.

Scotty wrote:Do we really need to discuss the Chiefs Offense?

Yes, there are some things to talk about.

Age.
New Head coach.
New O-Coordinator.

Tony Richardson .... ?!?

He was a beast for KC for a number of years, and you guys rightfully sang his praises.
Now that he's gone you act like it's no biggie ... ?
Bwahahaha

Doink fans - Who's your running back this year? Is Plummer gonna suddenly start making all the right decisions? How's he gonna play with the rook looking over his shoulder? Good team - that got tore down in a home playoff game. Yeah..... it sounds familiar.
Sure the Hee Haws have their questions, as does every team.
I briefly hit on a few of your OWN team's questions earlier.
Yeah, there's quite a few of 'em.
More than the Mules, IMO.
And strangely, you didn't choose to address any of 'em.
You sign a cornerback and *BANG* ..... you suddenly think you've made yourself as good as Denver ... ?
Bwa .....

Until further notice, your squad is 3 games WORSE than Dunger's.

AFC 'contenders' at this point would be Pittsburgh, Denver, Indy, maybe New England.

After that you'd have a group of wannabe teams including the Cincinnati's, Jacksonville's, Miami's, Kansas City's, & San Diego's of the world.

KC's not in the first tier in the conference, and the 4 teams in the '2nd tier' that I listed can all make their OWN case for being ready to take the next step.

Frankly, the only thing that brings particular notice to the Chefs at all is the fans in here who are making noise (again) about how Jupiter is ready to align with Mars.

Scotty wrote:KC has ruled the Rome NFL boards since their inception.

Everyone who's been around knows that.

As far as Oakland goes, my take is that they've got a LOT of work to do just to become competetive in the West again.

Art's pushing a lot of the right buttons, IMO, and I'm hopeful that it translates into many more W's this year.

I think Oakland will be 3-5 wins better than last year.

One more small item to pour ice on Chef fan's yearly pre-season stiffie.......

KC's playing the 6th most difficult schedule in the league this year (based on last year's records).

Last year they were almost exactly middle-of-the-pack in that regard.

Just an analaogy for those who don't view the Law pick up in it's proper perspective:

I watched Eric Warfield give away 2 TD's in Buffalo and watched Surtain drop a Game clinching INT in Dallas.

Your slipping over there in the land of Kung Pao Puppy, Tartman - Last year we played the NFC East and promptly went 1-3 with the losses to Philly, NYG & Dallas.

This year we get the NFC West and I'd wager that Seattle's 14-2 record heavily skewed our strength of schedule.

All in All I like the way our schedule looks - I'll break that down in another post.

Posted: Fri Jul 28, 2006 1:28 pm
by poptart
Truth of the matter is that I've never placed a lot of stock in strength of schedule because one never really knows for sure which teams will end up hot and which ones will tank.

But it's true that KC plays the 6th most difficult this year.

Last year you got the awful Jets, Raiders x 2, Buffalo, and Houston.

This year, yeah, Seattle jacks things up.
But you also get Denver x 2, Cincy, Pitt, and Jacksonville.

On paper, it's not an easy line up.

Posted: Fri Jul 28, 2006 1:43 pm
by Headhunter
I get perspective, Scott. But for true perspective go look up some threads from last year about how Surtain was going to fix your defense. And yet you claim he was the reason for the loss in Dallas. Look up how giddy you guys were over Kendrell Bell in the pre-season and then go look up how you guys bashed him after the Giants game that kept you out of the playoffs.

The point being is that Law has the "possibility" of improving the 2006 Chefs. Nothing more. Nothing less. You can't go back and play the "if" game on scenarios from last year unless you allow the opponent to play the if game as well.

I think Law is a good signing. I also think you fellas should temper your enthusiasm given past history.

If Law was so good, the Patriots and Jets wouldn't have jettisoned him.

This was a HUGE signing...3 years ago.

Right now you lost Tony Richardson and Willie Roaf, which were 2 of the biggest reasons you could put any back in the KC offense and run the ball. You have the league's weakest WR corps and Gonzalez is aging and not the best TE in the game anymore. And who the fuck did you draft again? Nobody worthy of mention.

You've actually gotten WORSE this year. You'll be thankful the Raiders are in your division when the season ends, to save you from the cellar.
