Any time a pitcher runs out of gas, the manager pulls him out of the game.
Guess it doesn't much matter what the game is.

Any more conspiracy theories out there, or can we all go back to our lives, now?
STFU bitch! The fact that a few of us on the boards are actual pilots isn't news to anyone here. Why would we try to impress anyone? It's old news. Now go back to sucking our dicks.

But not the flight instructor, apparently.

So if he ran out of petrol, why didn't he try a crash-landing instead of using a building to stop?

Where the fuck you going to land in downtown Manhattan ??
When you have engine failure you have a very few seconds to figure out where your going to put it down. That depends on your altitude, the glide ratio of your aircraft, obstructions (many) and LUCK.
That fucking parachute system on that Cirius did them a lot of good eh ??
If he did run out of gass, then a stupid pilot and a very stupid CFI are now out of the skies.
A dude decided to fly his Centurion about 40 miles out and back with less than 1/4 tank of fuel. He made it into and out of this one way mountain strip, the engine coughed and quit about 8 miles short of the airport. He dropped the gear, headed for a open field, caught the electric wire with the gear and flipped the fucker over. My old man and I saw it, hauled ass and drug his ass out of there and he lived to tell the story and hopefully not to fly again.
Another student tried to fly from Redding CA to Hillsboro, OR non stop in a fucking Cessna 150. Small problem was he forgot to calculate the head wind correctly, and reserve amounts and ran out of fuel on fucking FINAL approach and crashed about 1/4 short of thee runway. Another guy did the same thing in a 182 RG and crashed the fucker on the MAX tracks.
Poor piloting... did not use the checklist or ignored the FUEL CHECK thats right at the top of most pre flight cards....sucks to be them I guess....oh and Flight Sims are used by a lot of pilots... they make for safer flying and are more than a "game".

Cuda wrote:AP, ATC probably isn't going to vector him into a building and even if he didn't have a CFI on board- which he did- the plane had a 2 axis autopilot to do the climbs & turns for him.
Btw, if the CFI didn't take the controls, like he should have, if the plane went into IMC, the skies are now TWO pilots safer.
Only problem there is you have to have the INTENDED flight path programed into the autopilot / GPS BEFORE you get into trouble. Probably not going to happen on a corridor type flight like they were on. That's a hands on flight, so if you have to take evasive action, you can.
I would have thought that to be a TCA area, but I don't know for sure.

I don't buy the outta gas thing. Don't they have some kinda low fuel light or something? And he was flying over the river. You loose power, you put it down somewhere near the shore or in the drink. Also, while it was cloudy, there was 7 miles visibility with a ceiling around 1900 feet. High enough to get them around those buildings.
My guess is dude decided to play maverick and buzz the tower. He banked it over and possibly stalled it. There also could have been some pretty stiff winds that helped suck him into the tower he was trying to buzz.

Exactly.
Of course, Phantardino didn't provide a link to this "theory." That's pretty surprising. Sin., no. But hey, I was just going with the whole typing in English quasi-comprehension deal, while it lasted. We're here to have fun, and stuff, not talk about baseball players and flight instructors who crash planes into buildings for no apparent reason.

No fucking shit ???
Find about 800 feet of open space with about another 800 feet approach with NO OBSTRUCTIONS TO RUN INTO, and your good to go. And this all has to be within your glide path at the point of engine failure.
Looks like a lot of unobstructed open space here to put it down in.
Fucking limey....get a fucking clue.

A-Rod on board jet that overruns runway 26 minutes ago
BURBANK, Calif. - A private jet, carrying Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez and six others, overran a runway at Bob Hope Airport on Friday and was brought to a halt by an arresting system.

I'm guessing if you fly straight into a building it's probably because you didn't have any other options.

Excuse my ignorance of New York, but isn't there quite a bit of water about? And didn't he brag about his actual plane having a parachute?
Also, seeing as there was a trained instructor on board, I doubt a lack of petrol was the cause.

You are quite right nish. This was a textbook example of some cocky ass jock being a hotdog and getting himself kilt in the process. Sad part is that he took somebody with him.
This guy a Kennedy cousin? They seem to have cornered the market on doing wreckless things with expensive toys.
And once again, ole chuck darwin has been caught napping. Dude actually managed to spawn a few years back.

Feel fee to post a picture of that area where you CAN make a walk away emergency landing on solid ground. let's say within a 1/8th mile of the crash site.
Don't buy the out of fuel thing either. The fire was way to intense not to have had accelerants involved. A room and contents fire don't put out that much.

Technically, I think that still qualifies as a crash landing, although I'd feel more sure of that if Dinsdale agreed

Well in that case, they ought not to have any buildings in New York if this sort of nonsense happens.
