Gotta go with Long Hose DuBose. RIP.

I was a big fan of Robert Farmer. Didn't think he got a fair shake, but he was a good RB.

Long Hose? Never heard that one.

Agree with you on Farmer. Unfortunately for him, and other RB's of the Holtz era, Holtz generally preferred a tailback-by-committee approach that usually kept individual numbers down, although Denson wound up as ND's career rushing leader notwithstanding. Farmer's had a decent pro career.

In a way, it was nice having that much talent at the RB position, but someone invariably got lost in the shuffle. Dorsey Levens wound up transferring from ND because he was frustrated at his lack of playing time. Not one of Holtz' better moves, in hindsight.

DuBose had a "reputation" with the ladies.

Levens wasn't a casualty of lack of playing time, he got hurt. He was actually the starting TB coming out of spring practice in '90, but he got hurt. When he came back, he was behind Watters, Brooks, Culver, Bettis, etc. and decided to head to GaTech.

#31...Kip Taylor.

Kip was known for scoring the first touchdown in the history of the Michigan Stadium in 1927. I was fortunate enough to meet him some 70 years later when my roomie at the time, an editor for the Det. Free Press arranged a lunch at Bill Knapps in AA (Kip's choice). Still sharp in his 90's, Kip regailed us with tales of college life in the 20's.

Oh, and my version of OU's list...

#43 - Rod Shoate.
#42 - Paul Migliazzo (sorry, Rufus...)
#41 - Max Boydston.
#40 - Darrell Reed.
#39 - Kwado Agypong... okay, not really, but if he reads this, he'll laugh. Best? Kevin Murphy. Favorite? John Anderson.
#38 - Roy Williams. I didn't even look for any other #38's. Although, in terms of "impact," I may be inclined to say "Prentiss Gautt."
#37 (cue "thirty-seven" chorus from Clerks fans) - Ben Hart. (Yeah, it was either him or Clint Ingram... Hart made all-conference.)
#36 - Steve Owens.
#35 - (In case some of us have shit to do tomorrow. I don't...) Billy Vessels -- that's back-to-back Heisman's, bitches.

I'm an idiot and just saw that someone above me did it up to 31, so I will too. I don't know what day we're on. I can only keep track of my Valtrex.

#34 - Spencer Tillman, or Mike Fields. I really can't decide.
#33 - Kenyon Rasheed. Sincerely, Gary Gibbs. No, but seriously... Demond Parker.
#32 - Mike Gaddis.
#31 - Tim Lashar.

Wow. Weird. I guess another Sooner fan will have to try to carry this list on. I actually DO have shit to do now. I JUST, as I typed Lashar's name, got a phone call. Looks like I got the teaching and coaching gig I wanted back in my hometown. Now, if I can just volley this into getting back up to Norman in the next few years, I'll be stoked.

and FWIW, Tillman switched to #20 at least his senior year. Spencer was a heckuva RB, but he ain't gonna win #20.

.
anyway, this should say: Greg Pruitt at #30.

Pruitt averaged 9 yards per carry in 73. think about that. he was the first of the wishbone highlight backs that came to include Joe Washington and Billy Sims in OU's mid-late 70's teams. i tell you though, those teams won with defense. the "Okie 5-2".

Kenny King was a beast and a home run threat in the real triple option. i think he still still holds the longest run record for a TD in the Super Bowl, or was just recently eclipsed. Kenny King was probably the best wishbone FB at OU, maybe Stanley Wilson. Lydell Carr.

28 has to be Adrian Peterson.

though, i do think Billy Sims was the best RB at OU ever that i've seen.

Sims was so good. he had it all. power, speed, moves.

28-Don Bracken/Punter.

#27 is tough. There's Don Moorhead, the QB inherited by Bo when he arrived in 1969.

I also liked Vada Murry DB/FS 87-90, and I loved the clutch hands of Vince Bean who played opposite AC as Bo began to experiment with the forward pass.

I guess the edge goes to Moorhead on historical significance.

27- Jason Leach

Not many marquee players to choose from, Leach was a solid safety in 3 straight BCS Bowl wins and on 2 National title teams

27 - Joe Johnson or Bobby Howard. David Bruton could play his way in here eventually, but he'll need more playing time before he does so.
