There's a difference between the annual deficit and the national debt.

or owed to the public, nonmarketable securities held by government departments, and treasury securities held by individuals, corporations, the Federal Reserve banks, foreign governments etc.

It's not a matter of buying anything. it's about being leveraged to the fucking hilt, then printing more paper to cover the interest on the debt and pay for shit like the war and the rebate check stupidity, which in turn reduces the value of said paper, which directly affects every one of us every day in all we end up paying more for. Oil is tied to the dollar, which is now worth less, so oil prices go up to compensate.

The US dollar is worth the same as the fucking canadian dollar for the first time in over 30 years, for christ sake. You can't possibly look at this giant pile of shit and see gold.

Seems to me this same apprehension about skyrocketing debt and deficit existed during Reagan's, Bush 41's, and the early years of Clinton's presidencies. It was gonna take many generations before we'd be able to get our fiscal house in order. Then, within the span of less than eight years, it all disappeared and was replaced by a record surplus, thanks in large part to the dotcom bubble which, of course, has since burst and been combined with war spending.

I'm not too concerned anymore.
