Do you know what the Don't Mess With Texas bumper stickers are for? It was an ad campaign (and damn good one) so people wouldn't litter. Had nothing to do with t.u. Course, some of them have ripped the slogan.

That may be, but how many ignorant Texas necks are riding around with those things, oblivious to the real meaning, thinking they're badass? I'd guess quite a few. I mean, that stuff goes hand-in-hand with the mud flaps, the NRA stickers, etc.

Well, the "Don't Mess With Texas" campaign was like in the mid-80s. Honestly, when I left texas 5+ years ago, those bumper stickers were nowhere to be seen. You may have seen that on an OLD truck I'm guessing.

In any case, I would not call those who rode around with it ignorant. I was actually proud of that campaign. It ingrained in my head "don't fucking litter" and it made our state a nicer place to live. Not only that, but when I saw litter, I picked it up and trashed it. I still do. It made a better citizen out of me.

The mud flaps and NRA stickers I can't defend. Shoot away....

And by the way, since the BCS era started, there have been and will be no split NCs.

That said, I do give props to USC for having the best program in the BCS era.

Dude, you're one of the smarter, more insightful posters around here, which makes it that much more absurd that you continue to cling to this notion that split MNCs magically disappeared with the formation of the BCS. If the BCS really wanted to crown a consensus national champion, they should've gotten all their ducks in a row and had the AP agree to the same stipulations that the coaches did. Instead, they went ahead with a broken system that allowed for loopholes like the one we saw in the 2003 season.

Your steadfast denial of unassailable facts is unfortunate, considering your otherwise stellar reputation around here, but I guess it's appropriate in a thread started by m2. Once again, I'll refer you to the NCAA's official website, which pretty clearly spells out what 99.99% of us already know: that any MNC won in 1-A/FBS football is just that - mythical.

Schools in the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision do not participate in the NCAA Division I Football Championship. Instead, they participate in postseason bowl games. Since 1998, the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) has conducted a bowl contest between it's two top-ranked teams to determine a national champion.

"A national champion," not "THE national champion."
