Derron - Seriously - How many people out there in our 10% unemployment do you think DON'T want to work?
10% ??? As reported by our state government's..which is complete bullshit..it is more like 16% plus or so actual , so take away the "normal" rate of 5% to 6% and you have 10%, those are likely all seeking work. I am sure most of them want to work, but there are increasing numbers who expect everything to be handed to them, along with paid health care as a "right".

Watch the health care and HMO stocks over the next week and see what happens.

Sucks for them. Life's a bitch and then you die. Rub some dirt on it, pussy.

Actually, those recently laid off folks who want to work won't be the major beneficiaries of the scheme to lift money from my wallet.

If you had gotten laid off then got hit with $1500 + per month to keep up your COBRA payments, would you have liked an option of maybe buying catastrophic insurance for your family at say $300 per mo?
Bullshit. COBRA is another free handout.

The people I used to work with, close friends who lost their jobs thru no fault of their own, tell me that their health insurance is actually cheaper now on COBRA... while they're on the dole for another 77 weeks of extended unemployment insurance.

Not that I want to trade places, but that's a nice gig.

Absolutely 100% correct. My COBRA payments after I got laid off would have been 5 times what I was paying while with my former employer. Thank God my wife was able to get insurance through her employer, otherwise I would have been completely fucked.

Sounds like a personal problem to me.

If the government wants to help create jobs, the best thing they could do is get the fuck out of the way. Of course, creating jobs is the last thing that the On.igger administration wants to do. His entire administration is predicated on increasing dependency on the federal government. The only thing he has done since he has been elected is kill private sector employment.

Wake the fuck up.

This will turn out to be a very bad law, assuming it isn't repealed or fixed in the short term. And I think a Constitutional challenge to the mandate portion will be interesting.

Those who favor this bill haven't considered the consequences of it. One of the ways the bill's proponents secured a favorable CBO score was to cut reimbursement payments to doctors by 21%. Historically, these cuts have been waived each year by Congress to keep the doctors from revolting (i.e., refusing to treat Medicare/Medicaid patients).
Yep, and it goes beyond that. Out-of-network doctors are typically paid Medicare rates by HMOs for treating their patients and the vast majority of IPAs (Independent Physician Associations) pay their docs medicare rates on a fee-for-service basis. Medicare rates are considered the industry standard for reimbursement, even though the government "discourages" this practice.
And those of you who are rejoicing about this bill's passage should be ashamed of yourselves. Where is it taught that one of America's founding principles is that you have a right to have the government compel someone else pay your living expenses for you? Anything you receive without paying for it is a gift. Anything that is taken from you without your consent is theft.
It seems like these days many in this country expect you to feel guilty for working your ass off to be successful and getting the rewards that come with that. Now instead of looking at a self-made millionaire as something to aspire to, people look at that person as a lottery winner who should share his good fortune.
And this same system of government continues to tell the 40% who do not pay any federal taxes that they are entitled to receive subsidized housing, subsidized food, subsidized education and now subsidized health care, all at other taxpayers' expense. This is unsustainable.
Fucking RACK. Prime example is The People's Republic of California. The entitlement programs were all funded by massive taxes on the middle and upper classes. Those people left and now we're cutting education and police in order to save the free housing, WIC, welfare, Medi-Cal, etc.

BSmack, how exactly does this bill "fix" healthcare? There were many steps that could have been taken to greatly lower health care costs: Repeal anti-trust exemption, put limits on pain and suffering lawsuit awards, impose penalties for non-emergent use of ERs, impose penalties for denying care clearly covered under contract, regulate pharmaceutical prices by staggering R&D recoupment over 10 years, instituting a Medicare/Medicaid fraud-prevention program with teeth, etc, etc, et-fucking-cetera. If they did half of those, this would be a huge step. Instead, they did none of them yet you're applauding them going five-hole on you.

So now we're forcing employers to pony up the majority of the costs and subsidizing the rest through taxes or "co-percentage of value-added fees" or whatever the current term is to avoid saying "tax"? Solid plan until the HMOs decry the burden of the end of pre-existing conditions and higher costs force business owners to cut hours or lay off staff in order to stay afloat. In the end you get unsustainable health care for the poor, more middle class people out of work, and in the ultimate irony, higher health care premiums and the same profits for HMOs.

What about a working American say, making 10 bucks an hour, and the father of a young daughter who came down with RSV or pneumonia and while not castastrophic at first, could eventually take the life of this young American daughter of a working American father who cannot afford 350 bucks a month for a policy at work with a 2500 dollar deductible and a 20% copay?

Why should his child almost DIE before healthcare can be obtained at an ER? Now you know why the steady march to socialism continues. That's certainly horrible and I can't even imagine what it would be like to see a child go through that, especially after his own struggles. It's not fair. But who said life is fair? It isn't and never has been. He and his daughter both got dealt a shit hand. But that type of scenario happens all the time, all over the world. LIFE IS HARD.

Washington (CNN) - A majority of Americans have a dim view of the sweeping health care bill passed by the House, saying it gives Washington too much clout and won't do much to reduce their own health care costs or federal deficits, according to a new poll released Monday.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll found that 59 percent of those surveyed opposed the bill, and 39 percent favored it.

And for those complaining about this health care bill, may I suggest doing what I have done? I began doing this when Obama got elected. I quit giving to any and all charities which used to be quite a bit. I will never donate to another catastrophic world event again such as Haiti, the tsunami in Indonesia, or even something domestic such as Katrina. There's not much I can do about changing the law itself other than vote. When that didn't work, I simply accepted the fact the governrment wants to decide where I donate my disposable income. If it were up to me, I would choose to give to those who deserve it, not those who feel they are entitled to it just because they are too lazy or too dumb to find a job. Good people get laid off all the time. That's life. I should not have to pay for it, but if I do, it will be at the expense of someone else I would normally voluntarily help.

Huh?

Are you retarded?

I'm a conservative. Very definitely NOT a Republican, since those two things are at odds.

I'd compare my conservatism to being somewhere right around James Fucking Madison.

That said, none of this shit is "conservative."

Conservatives don't pimp ridiculous laws to pay back their benefactors from past elections. Conservatives have no desire to babysit anyone. Conservatives would have never enacted stupid fucking laws that fucked up what was once a near-perfect health care system.

If I was in charge, as a Conservative...

Repeal the HMO Act of 1973. The Fed has no Constitutional right to enact such bullshit. By FORCING companies to purchase group plans, they completely FUCKED the entire Supply/Demand graph that ALL economic transactions in Human Fucking History have operated within, by creating an artificial tweak in the demad curve... FACT. When an outside entity (Big Government, usually) jacks up the demand side of the graph, there's no fucking chance that prices won't increase at a rate consistant with the tweak to the demand curve... IRREFUTABLE FACT, based on THOUSANDS of years of human commerce. If you can't grasp this concepot, stop reading this, and get your uneducated ass back to junior high school for a do-over.

BUT THEN...

Whose fucking idea was it to prohibit selling insurance across state lines? Sure the fuck wasn't a CONSERVATIVE, that's for sure. To a Conservative, the Interstate Commerce Clause exists ONLY to ensure the free flow of goods between states -- NEVER to restrict it. So, with the demand side of the graph already in an artificial tizzy, what's left to fuck with? The supply side. And going back to that good ol' junior high economics class... if you reduce supply, what happens, 100% of the fucking time? Prices increase... EVERY SINGLE TIME, IN ANY ECONOMIC MODEL YOU CARE TO CITE.

So, let's check the scoreboard:

Big Government -- infinity
People -- broke

So, at this point, the problems of the overall health care industry have been CAUSED by Big Government intervention.

The solution?

Yeah, putting Big Government further in charge... makes perfect sense.

And what's all this bullshit about "insurance" anyway. When I was a kid, we had catastophic insurance, sure. But when we needed a few stitches, or a tetanus shot, guess what? We went to the doctor's office, got the treatment we needed.... and get this craziness...

We then handed him cash/check, and paid our bill.

Crazy, I know... but good ol' Dad paid for his kids' health problems. And since there wasn't all this government-run, gun-to-the-head business model (another thing non-Conservatives fucked up -- every doctor/insurance company HAS to operate under a government-mandated business model? That's INSANE, and goes a looooong way to eliminating both competition and efficiency), the doctor didn't need 3 pencil-pushers for every person who actually helped the patients. Nope, he took the check, handed it to the receptionist/nurse (funny concept these days), and they stuck it in the bank... no legal mumbo-jumbo, no jumping through HMO hoops -- just a good old fashioned business transaction, between two private parties.

Then, the commies took all of that away... and prices shot up astronomically.

Shove your "it's the conservatives!" shit straight up your ass -- and pay your own fucking doctor bill to have it surgically removed.

It's YOUR kind that fucked shit up -- not mine. To even try to argue otherwise is asinine.

I think you're missing the point:

What do you think Congress should do on health care -- pass a health care bill similar to the legislation that Congress has been working on for the past year, start work on an entirely new bill, or stop working on any bills that would change the country's health care system?

Feb. 12-15…………. Jan. 22-24

Pass similar bill 25%............ 30%
Start work on new bill 48%.................48%
Stop working on health care 25%................. 21%
Other (vol.) 2%................ 1%
No opinion 1%................... 1%

Yeah, that's it -- when federal legislation has OBVIOUSLY fucked things up beyond what is reasonable... pass more legislation.

Don't even consider repealing the fucked up laws that caused the mess -- just pass more laws.

Because Congress won't ever even entertain the idea of repealing shit that's obviously counterproductive -- it ain't about the People, it's about them and their benefactors getting their more-than-fair share.

And let's not forget -- those same Congresspeople are essentailly exempt from the laws they're currently imposing on everyone else... and no one sees the problem with that?
