Unfortunately, no. When my consultant picked me up, he had in mind what he wanted to do. He had told me we could head to Boston so I planned on doing the Davios/Mike's combo. I didn't know this, but he went to college at UMass-Lowell which was right where I was at. He knew the area pretty well, and he wanted to bar-hop his old college town. Needless to say, that was pretty uneventful.
I'm not sure where it was, but it was about a 15 minute drive from my hotel. We ate at a place called Surf. I was not dissapointed. I had an Ahi Tuna appetizer that was very good. Enjoyed a couple Woodford Reserves on the rocks with dinner. For the meal, I had a Seafood Stew with clams, scallops, mussels, shrimp, haddock, oysters, lobster, crab and andoulle sausage in a (by request) extra spicy creamy marinara sauce. For dessert, I had some sorbet with a very smoothe port wine.
So, no Davios for me I regret, but my meal was damn good and the consultant picked up the $200 tab. We hit 5 bars after that. Then the asshole says to me at midnight "Want to go to the casino?" Now, he knows I love to gamble. We spent a shitload of time together in Vegas at a conference gambling together. So I say, "We've been hitting dead bar after dead bar for 2 hours and now you mention gambling?" He tells me the place is like 90 minutes away. I contemplated it, but in the end I said no. He was fucking begging to go. I told him he must have a free pass from the Mrs. as bad as he was begging.
Ultimately, he asked if I was going to the conference in Vegas in March. He's presenting on the behalf of SAP for one of their hot new products. I tell him my company isn't dropping $5000 to send me to a conference for some products that are way too expensive at this point in time. While we wouold love to have them, sticker is just too high. He tells me I can go as a guest of his consulting firm at no cost. I'm in.
So, no Davios. No Mike's. But I got a week long trip to Vegas at a plush hotel out of it. To top it off, I get to attend one of the best conferences SAP puts together. The products they are presenting we are hoping to actually put into place by May of next year so the timing is good.
I will be heading back to Boston in the next 6 months though most likely. This time, I plan on staying closer to Boston rather than the wasteland that is Chelmsford/Lowell. I will hit up Davios/Mike's on the next trip for sure...probably more than once.
