Funny, but I always thought the war that was fought starting 150 years ago answered that question the other way.

Link?
The idea of secessionwhich Perry did not endorse surfaced suddenly Wednesday after Perry appeared at an anti-tax "tea party" at Austin City Hall, where some in his U.S. flag-waving audience shouted, "Secede!"

"There's a lot of different scenarios," Perry said. "We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that? But Texas is a very unique place, and we're a pretty independent lot to boot."

On Thursday, Perry called potential secession a "side issue of Texas history. ... We are very proud of our Texas history; people discuss and debate the issues of can we break ourselves into five states, can we secede, a lot of interesting things that I'm sure Oklahoma and Pennsylvania would love to be able to say about their states, but the fact is, they can't because they're not Texas."
Here you go seeing as how you've got your head stuck up your ass. I guess you have a pretty good view of GaySC's shoes.

But of course. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/1 ... 87490.html
Gov. Rick Perry: Texas Could Secede, Leave Union

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry fired up an anti-tax "tea party" Wednesday with his stance against the federal government and for states' rights as some in his U.S. flag-waving audience shouted, "Secede!" An animated Perry told the crowd at Austin City Hall -- one of three tea parties he was attending across the state -- that officials in Washington have abandoned the country's founding principles of limited government. He said the federal government is strangling Americans with taxation, spending and debt.

Perry repeated his running theme that Texas' economy is in relatively good shape compared with other states and with the "federal budget mess." Many in the crowd held signs deriding President Barack Obama and the $786 billion federal economic stimulus package. Perry called his supporters patriots. Later, answering news reporters' questions, Perry suggested Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to secede from the union, though he said he sees no reason why Texas should do that. "There's a lot of different scenarios," Perry said. "We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that. But Texas is a very unique place, and we're a pretty independent lot to boot."

He said when Texas entered the union in 1845 it was with the understanding it could pull out. However, according to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, Texas negotiated the power to divide into four additional states at some point if it wanted to but not the right to secede. Texas did secede in 1861, but the North's victory in the Civil War put an end to that.

Perry is running for re-election against U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, a fellow Republican. His anti-Washington remarks have become more strident the past few weeks as that 2010 race gets going and since Perry rejected $550 million in federal economic stimulus money slated to help Texas' unemployment trust fund. Perry said the stimulus money would come with strings attached that would leave Texas paying the bill once the federal money ran out.

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, also Republicans, have been outspoken against the federal economic stimulus spending and were supportive of tea parties in their states. The protests were being held throughout the country on federal income tax deadline day to imitate the original Boston Tea Party of American revolutionary times.

In an appearance at the Texas Capitol last week, Perry joined state lawmakers in pushing a resolution that supports states' rights protected in the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. He said the federal government has become oppressive in its size and interference with states. Since then, Perry has been featured on the online Drudge Report, and other conservative commentators and citizens have latched on to his words.

After praising veterans in the cheering crowd Wednesday, he said: "I'm just not real sure you're a bunch of right-wing extremists. But if you are, we're with you." Perry said he believes he could be at the center of a national movement that is coordinated and focused in its opposition to the actions of the federal government. "It's a very organic thing," he said. "It is a very powerful moment, I think, in American history."

For her part, Hutchison issued a newspaper opinion piece Wednesday criticizing the Democratic-led Congress for spending on the stimulus bill and the $1 trillion appropriations bill. "On April 15 -- Tax Day -- some in Congress may need a reminder of just who is underwriting this spending: the American taxpayer. I am deeply concerned over the swelling tax burden that will be imposed on all Texas families," she wrote.

The crowd at the Austin tea party appeared to be decidedly anti-Democrat. Many of the speakers were Republicans and Libertarians. One placard said, "Stop Obama's Socialism." Another read, "Some Pirates Are in America," and it showed photographs of Obama, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid wearing pirate hats. Rebecca Knowlton, 45, of Smithville, said she took the day off of home-schooling her three children and brought them to the rally to teach them about civic duty. Knowlton, a critic of the Social Security system and the United Nations, said she felt camaraderie at the demonstration. "The movement is growing stronger," she said. "You're not alone."

There were no quotes in either of those stories, you stupid, cockswallowing cum stain.

The actual quotes from the event in question were posted in GaySC's article. Here they are again.

Hey Terry,

Before you start calling out KYOA's, you may want to enlarge the parts of your findings that pertain to the notion that Perry is a sucessionist.
he said he sees no reason why Texas should do that

You would think...but then again he thinks that editorial spin about an event is more credible than the actual quotes from the event.

Dumbfucks are like that. They can't be bothered to think or draw rational conclusions.

and if this drip were elected president, what's he going to do when some foreign head of state does something he doesn't like? threaten to beat him up as well?

Rick Perry is about as menacing as a ball of cotton, but I'm just trying to get a handle on what it is you consider appropriate behavior from a presidential candidate....

felix, all your links dont change things for you, they dont change the fact that your a dellusional left wing nutjob.

as we grow older in life, we begin to change, from being a liberal to being a conservative. its very natural and very enlightenning, THOSE of you who resist it, and stay liberal? for you, life becomes a bitter pill to swallow, you become nasty and mean, and then, you decay and wither away like dogshit.

You become bitter and your teeth begin to rot out with serious gingivitus, ive noticed that liberals dont take care of their teeth,

So, my advice to you? Start reading the works of C s Lewis, william buckley, and, start watching the great Ronald Reagan's speeches from the mid 1960's forward.

You will begin to learn what common sense is, and you will become more compassionate and loving, you'll be a better father to your children, a better lover to your wife, a better neighbor in your community, and, most important, you wont have vile disgusting breath due to bad oral hygene.

felix, come out of the dark, and into the light.

Perry is a fucking moron who only became Governor of Texas because he rode W's coat tails.

While W was not the best President, he was not the worst. We had strong economic growth in Texas and tons of jobs. When he left the Mansion in Austin, we had a surplus in the Texas treasury of $13 Billion.

Enter the formal Aggy Yell Leader......

We now have a state debt of $13 Billion......and unemployment is at a 24 year high.

I will vote for anyone over this fucktard and I tend to be more conservative.

Bush didn't leave a surplus in Texas so your premise is wrong from the get go.

Further, you do realise that there has been a global recession for the last two years coupled with a total collapse in the real estate market, right? You should also realise that Texas leads the nation in population growth and added 4.2 million new resident between 2000 and 2010. I'm sure there are also another million or two illegal immigrants.

Feel free to pop your head out of you ass and take a long look around. People aren't flocking to Texas because it's fucked up.

Well people aren't flocking to Texas because Rick Perry is governor. It is because the state is business friendly with taxes and the fact that there is not personal income tax in Texas. This was the case when W was governor and while Rick Perry has been governor. Oil and Gas has exploded over the last 10 years and companies have moved to Texas. It has nothing to do with Rick Perry. I don't think the West Texas Crude is up based on the fact that Rick Perry is governor.

But you live in Texas right???? So you are here and see all the great things Perry has done? :meds:

Oh, I see. And Perry being governor for the last ten years had absolutely nothing to do with maintaining this friendly business climate?

Plenty of oil and gas offshore in California, too. Guess what, though? Oil and gas companies aren't flocking to California because the Inseminator and, now, Jerry Moonbeam are our governors.

Sounds like the worst thing you can say about Perry is that he is just smart enough to stay out of the way and let business do its thing. Personally, I think that is precisely the attitude we need in the White House right now.

He started 13 billion in the hole so he has created 15 billion in debt and 11 of that was for infrastructure improvements. In any event, Texas has a GDP of $1.2 trillion. That is a 2.3% debt to GDP ratio which is not even remotely problematic.
why in the fuck would you support this dolt?
Because this so called "dolt" has successfully managed the second largest economy in the country for the last ten years. While Texas hasn't been completely insulated from the effects of the global recession, they've outperformed the rest of the country.

When you constrast Perry's record of success with ObamAA+'s record categorical failure in every measurable respect, the choice very clear and very easy.

which successes are those?

23 other states have better unemployment rate than texas
texas unemployment rate has gone up recently, while the overall unemployment rate has been decreasing...since the recession began, wages in Texas have gone up all of 0.6%, while overall in the US, wages have gone up on average by about 5%...texas has the largest number of people working below minimum wage...texas has the highest percentage of any state (25%) of people with no insurance...perry is doing everything in his power to kill medicaid and privatize medicare in an effort to get rid of it all together....

Because people are moving to Texas looking for work. Texas is the fastest growing state and there isn't even a close second. In case the significance of that fact eludes you, people don't flock to failure in hard times.

ARE YOU DELLUSIONAL? overall unemployment rate decreasing? YOU ARE A DIRTY LIAR!! OFF THIS TROLL.

when Obama took office, the unemployment rate was 5.9 percent, since then, the liberal media tells us(LIES), that its 9.2 percent, HOWEVER, in reality, its really closer to 15 percent.

SO, Felix thinks its decreaasing? off this troll queen.

Most Americans think as he does.

YOU, Felix, are in the minority - and decidedly so.

More than half of Americans polled pray at least once a day.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... s_religion

Nearly 8 in 10 Americans say prayer helped save Congresswoman Giffords.

We could pull up many other such stats showing that a majority of Americans believe in the power of prayer, and yet people such as yourself practically wet themselves attempting to portray Christianity as something odd and exotic.

More than half of Americans polled pray at least once a day.

they SAY they pray, now whether they do or not is debatable

Nearly 8 in 10 Americans say prayer helped save Congresswoman Giffords.

okay, let me see if I get the mathematics correct here....half the people or 50% pray, yet 8 our of 10 or 80% of the people believe prayer helped her? somebody isn't carrying their end of the prayer wagon

and maybe you should look up argumentum ad populum so you can understand exactly how ridiculous it is....simply because a bunch of people believe it doesn't make it true....

look, we've been all through this before
get out, get out while there's still time

For the sake of the discussion you started, it doesn't MATTER if it is true or not.

What matters in responding to your indignation over prayer, is that more people than not have the same thinking that Rick Perry speaks of.

You probably ought not mock it, because historically, Americans have shown that they want a man of faith in the White House - and it continues to this day.

I wonder what feelsdicks was thinking about Rev. Wright back in 08...

Back then I'm sure religion was a personal matter that had no bearing on official conduct and let's not play "guilt by association" here, guys. OK?

Foolix is a mess.

Not only that, Barry knew that he had to pretend to be a Christian in order to be elected - because it's what the American people want.

That'll happen when you set out to defend the indefensible (a 2nd term for B Nizzle). Naturally they will have little choice but to become increasingly shrill and unhinged.

Still one of the funnier lines I've heard was Dennis Miller saying that J. Carville is - more unhinged than a tater cellar door in a cat 5 hurricane.

At this rate, Foolix will soon enter Carville territory.
