Except that it isn't. Stanford has always been regarded as the finer institution, and it remains so to this day.

Lefty, what about Ivy League schools? Harvard and Columbia bend their admissions standards to admit lower-scoring athletes? Not saying you're wrong. Just curious. Also, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a poorly-spoken dumbass on any Stanford roster. I've seen quite a few Stanford player interviews over the years and not once have I encountered a Marshawn Lynch, much less a Tyrann Mathiew or Trent Richardson.

I don't believe the Ivy League schools have athletic scholarships. They probably aren't that interested in bringing in the real marginal student athletes where the marginal part relates to "student", and those types probably have no interest in the Ivy League any way.

Psst... LSJU was a satellite school for San Jose State University... shit for brains.

Which was a teachers college... and wasn't even established till the 20 century you fucking idiot.

Why anyone converses with you while not drunk... will continue to amaze me.

Good ole Leland ... wanted a school that could be close to Cal academically and wanted to make it affordable to the common man just like Cal...

Guess what... his kin ended up being pricks and made it a PRIVATE school that stole from the common man and lives off grants and endowments from the government.

Only a stupid prick like you would buy into the bullshit.

Notice where I wrote FBS. I have no clue if the Ivy's bend their requirements for athletes. I do know that Harvard v Yale is just as big to those students and alumni as is (insert your favorite rivalry here).

I wouldn't be surprised if the Ivy's gave athletes extra consideration and couched it by saying they were looking at the whole person not just test scores, etc.

Remember that this is all relative too. We all know that Rice is harder to get into that Nebraska which is harder to get into than New Mexico St. So even when Rice gives a student athlete a break on entrance requirements, that same athlete might still be an automatic at Nebraska and near the top at NM State.

(save the comments on NU and NMSU. I used NU as an example because of an arguement years ago about prop 48s and I know their acceptance was easier than Rice. Pulled NMSU out of thin air, so if they are the Harvard of the southwest my bad)

Psssst...—and why do you always do this gay "psssst" thing anyway? You sound like a nine-year-old girl trying to pass a note during class—Stanford is universally regarded as a finer university than Cal, and not just academically. They're far superior athletically. Imagine that! Smarter and tougher.

Cal isn't even the best school within an immediate fifty-mile radius. Deal with it.

M2, notice that I said, "when all is said and done." Let's wait until the final tally is in. If Cal manages a Top Five finish, yep, you really managed something.

Merely floating around the Top Ten isn't that big of a deal. USC put together multiple #1 years in a row, similar to what Bama seems to be doing now. That's when you can talk, because that's how you build depth.

Bottom line, is Cal going to win any more than they have been? Will 7-5 become 10-2, then 11-1? Will they finally win a big game? Will they matter? Under Jeff Tedford?

I think I see these kids working.

They realize that in the end, what you did in college means nothing. Being fairly bright, they realize there are two paths.

Path A:

Go to Cal which is a good school, enjoy the college experience, get a good edumacashun, then maybe move on to the NFL and get paid. Worst case, you have a decent degree and can get a decent yob.

Path B:

Go to LSU, be in the BCS hunt for a few seasons.......then get carried off the field on a stretcher after a 265 lb freak of nature linebacker from 'bama breaks your leg off at the knee and beats you with the wet end. If you're lucky, the AD gives you a nice towel boy gig for the rest of your working days, which is about all an uneducated cripple can hope for.

Not to mention the all-important lure for any kid...immediate playing time. Cal can guarantee it. Some of their competitors can't.

Armstead's brother has not been cleared to play by the medical staff at USC in 3 years. The Trojans have honored his scholarship when most schools would have swept him out the door. If a school is taking him in it is just to try to get his younger brother and if they clear him to play then they are taking a huge risk with a player dropping dead on the field just because the coach wants to sign his younger brother.

USC didnt give Mondo a medical hardship. And with the depth issues that USC has had do you honestly think they would be pushing someone out the door? The Trojans have not been signing 30 players every year like Alabama has if Armstead was cleared by USCs doctors he would have practiced and played with the team the last few years. Like Frankie Telfort, USC is being very careful to the young men who choose to be Trojans, they deserve it.

Heard the same thing. Also, ND is considering taking his brother. Word is that they're a package deal. That would be the first time ND has ever taken a transfer football player on scholarship.

Kiel signed a LOI yesterday and is an EE, so things are definitely starting to look up for this year's ND recruiting class.

Update on the Armsteads -- Arik apparently won't make up his mind until National Signing Day, despite the fact that he's already enrolled at ND, Auburn and Cal. Meanwhile, USC apparently won't release Armond to attend Cal, but will release him to attend ND. :? http://www.maxpreps.com/news/JA-vsEImEe ... -feb-1.htm

Huh?
Pat Haden is a Domer, there is no denying it.
He said in his book that he grew up a Notre Dame fan and would have gone to Notre Dame if he didnt move in with his best friend his senior year in High School when his parents moved from the area. His best friend was JK McKay, John McKays son.
After the NFL, Haden went to work for Notre Dame and after a game vs Miami where the Irish were blown out, Haden was on TV crying (literally, tears and everything) about how Irish coach Gerry Faust deserved a better send off than that. No Trojan will ever cry over an Irish loss.
Since getting to USC Haden has not fought the NCAA over the absurd penalties that they levied against USC, penalties made even more absurd since other schools have had boosters and coaches involved in wrong doing and didnt receive the punishment that USC was struck with for an agent working independent of the school to get players to leave the school and not to play for the school. Instead Haden has said that USC will win the right way now implying that USC did not win the right way before even though nobody tied to USC was found by the NCAA to be doing anything wrong other than not babysitting players tightly enough.
Haden this year came up to Lane Kiffin as Lane was calling a play to score another TD on ND and told Lane to take a knee instead of score again and cement the victory. Why would an AD be on the sideline teling the coach to not score a TD unless he was protecting his favorite school?
He's a Domer.

Odd naming him AD with the ND love affair and all.

Max Nikias cares less about the athletic programs at USC and more about raising millions of dollars for the school. Haden appealed to the alumni with the huge check books. It wasnt a hire to improve the athletics, Haden has done nothing to do that, only weaken the schools athletic programs with lame duck coaching hires. Hadens purpose, in Max Nikias' eyes, is to make the NCAA investigations and negative publicity go away so the money can continue to flow in to the school. It is a private school and thats how they make money instead of state or federal handouts.
