Wife and I recently bought a villa on the Yucatan coast, it was in the mid 80s there yesterday.
Nice. Maybe you'll run into Rafael down there next time there's some cold weather.

If Left Behinder has ever jogged or ran it sure as hell wasn't in Los Angeles during the seventies.

Mikey wrote: Fri Feb 19, 2021 4:16 pm You don't follow along too well do you? Wind turbines can be made operational in cold weather but it takes a little more $$ to enable this. So, I guess it's out of the question.

And of course we should do away with all emission control technology (which also can operate in cold weather if you want them to), because what good are they anyway?
Of course they can, but at what cost? Wind is already far more expensive. And some of the processes to winterize the wind generation takes fossil fuels.

And you want to talk about not following along? Emission control technology isn’t needed in these “green” energy fantasies by its very definition. There won’t be coal or gas powered generation in their world of 10 years from now.

So, green power generation will need to include expensive heating or de-icing technologies for 10-15 days a year? Yeah that makes total sense.

But there are other weather question you green energy fanatics ignore. High wind events, hurricanes, hail storms, etc. Cold and icing are but one small factor.

But dream on, meanwhile in the real world fossil fuels will continue to be dominant for my lifetime.

Anyone know what the Seattle idiot is saying?

No? Ok no worries.

We’ll just chalk it up to more self ass kicking.

It is? How much more expensive, exactly? Other areas of the country seem to think it's cost effective to winterize. Even you said earlier that if so much wind power hadn't shut down there would have been no blackouts at all this week. So, how much did the blackouts cost? I'm betting that would have paid for winterizing every wind turbine in the world five times over.

And some of the processes to winterize the wind generation takes fossil fuels.
They do? Please explain. I'm pretty sure that they're not burning smudge pots inside the blades.

And you want to talk about not following along? Emission control technology isn’t needed in these “green” energy fantasies by its very definition. There won’t be coal or gas powered generation in their world of 10 years from now.
Your logic is so twisted here it's hardly worth responding to. Nobody is proposing emission controls on renewable generation, are they?

So, green power generation will need to include expensive heating or de-icing technologies for 10-15 days a year? Yeah that makes total sense.
How expensive is it? Do you actually have any idea? As I mentioned above, according to you it would have prevented all the problems you experienced this week. Not worth it? Maybe not in Texas.

But there are other weather question you green energy fanatics ignore. High wind events, hurricanes, hail storms, etc. Cold and icing are but one small factor.
So none of these events affect fossil fuel generation? I think we've seen this week that's not true. :meds: :meds:

But dream on, meanwhile in the real world fossil fuels will continue to be dominant for my lifetime.
Keep on displaying your ignorance. It's kind of cute, in a Texas sort of way.

I don’t know the exact cost. No one probably does. But we do know Green Energy is more expensive. See Georgetown Texas who went 100% green energy and is now facing the wrath of their citizens for the higher costs.

As for making windmills work in winter one example is Sweden where they have lots of cold weather. They use helicopters to spray heated water on the blades to prevent icing. The water is heated by fossil fuels.

https://energiforskmedia.blob.core.wind ... 16-300.pdf

You brought up making emission control stuff winter workable. I am just pointing out that need not be discussed since your green energy plans make it obsolete in the decade.

As for the cost of making it winter proof again I don’t know. Flying helicopters to do it certainly isn’t cheap. Maybe there are other cheaper methods, however they are clearly not “standard” issue and are optional which leads to more price increases. See above for Georgetown and what green energy is costing their rate payers. Now imagine that across all rate payers in the county, state or country.

And yes some of these same events present problems for fossil fuel generation. However liberal Democrats are saying we do away with fossil fuel generation by 2030 or 2035. So why are we even discussing fossil fuel generation if you liberals want it gone shortly?

Finally enjoy your fantasy world if you think fossil fuels will not still be dominate in 40 years. How do you think materials for your windmills and the mining and refining of minerals for your batteries will be produced without fossil fuels? Do you smoke or snort the stuff that gets you high enough to believe that fantasy?

Lots of people do.

It might help you to remove the condensation from your reading glasses. Go ahead & clean them off while I bump my thermostat up to 73º.

Without offending anybody’s delicate Texas identity by being overly critical of how they deal with shit, the recent clusterfuck is not at all unprecedented. Similar situation, though maybe not as extreme, happened in 2011. Consequently warned after that to winterize their wind and gas resources they did nothing. But...it's their choice and we shouldn't be too critical.

Things happen for a reason. This just an example of kicking the can down the road.

We are a nation of can kickers, not shade tree planters. That's by design.

Where are the profits? That's what's most important. Anybody truly affected by this is not profitable... right?

Sorry I don't have any answers. I just brought 26 plants from the native plant nursery. No trees today but I got a lot of large shrubs (hopefully). I have about 12 trees in cans out in back that I need to get into the ground.
