Legacies and donations support the university's bottom line. Maybe if you fumble around long enough you might find your shriveled raisins and offer a serious take.

Harvard already has a huge endowment. They need the donations of potential student’s parents why?

On top of that, donations to Universities are generally tax deductible. I don’t see those donations drying up anytime soon. Well until we move to a flat tax and eliminate all deductions.
