The Black Hawks were there again today. I'm clueless about their actual capacities, but they seem amazing. When they are on the ground with their engines on, you don't just hear them, you feel it. I suspect that when they get armed with missiles and guns, an opposing force shits their pants upon hearing them on the battlefield.
They aren't gunships. They're transports, search & rescue, medevac etc. Special ops might have a few specialized gunship variants. These things aren't exactly new. They've been around for about 40 years.

When is Helene supposed to make landfall?

I need to know when I can start cheering for the storm in Tallahassee...

Nice white boots. He's definitely well prepared for floodwaters. I wonder if he has elevators in them.

Why is it that only Republican states get hit with hurricanes? It must be their terrible policies.

At this point it might be good to point out that Project 2025 (which Trump has nothing to do with    ) would dismantle NOAA (including NWS and the National Hurricane Center) and either privatize the functions or dump them all together. So if you want to trust AccuWeather and Exxon to provide good hurricane data, then you know how to vote.

Only 5 reported deaths so far??

HUGE props to the first responders, storm hitting at night like that and with so many people who could not or would not evacuate, they did an incredible job of rescuing folks under really bad conditions. And that is going to continue for the next couple of days.

Friend’s place near Steinhatchee took nearly a direct hit. Not sure if home survived this one because everyone had evacuated.

Shitloads of flooding all over from south of Clearwater to the panhandle. This one was a mofo.

Thanks for the updates, gang. With luck, Python will weigh in soon, but what I really want to know is which candidate I should vote for. That's what I want a weather thread. Hopefully Mikey shows up hyperventilating over a thing somebody said and lets us all know what's really important.

That is the second criteria for me. The third consideration involves the manner in which they wear their hair.

“ In Steinhatchee, a coastal town just miles from where Helene made landfall, John Kujawski drove a golf cart with his wife, Jamie Lee, over debris and around downed trees, horrified at the damage. The town of some 500 people took on 9.63 feet of storm surge, a record.”

BTW, Perry, where the mofo came ashore, makes rural Alabama look ultra-sophisticated. Biggest redneck enclave on the planet.
