The ACC refs have the highest percentage of overturn rates in the NCAA. Is anyone surprised? I am amazed. FIFTY percent overturned. Nice. I always thought that they were cheaters. I was wrong. They just suck completely and it does not matter who's involved. Disgraceful.

I agree that the ACC has some shotty Refs, esp Ron Cherry, but thats why we have instant replay now. Imagine how frustrated we were when there was no replay.

Let's remember how most of these systems work. An official in the booth replays close plays as they happen. He looks at them maybe 3 or 4 times before the ball is even marked ready for play. Then he may freeze frame certain frames for a longer look. All of this is happening before the next play. So the numbers in this article are misleading at best. The ACC has reversed itself on 50% of the plays that couldn't be determined prior to the next snap of the ball. Not 50% of the plays reviewed by the replay official. We don't know how many plays were reviewed and determined to be correct prior to the next snap.

One could argue that the replay officials in the ACC are only stopping the next play on things that they are leaning towards overturning. One could also say that the replay officials in the SEC aren't looking closely at enough plays during a game since their stoppages per game is far outside the average of the other leagues, and their overturned per game is the lowest. One could also argue that the PAC 10 is the worst because they are overturning more plays per game than any other league.

Frankly I am not surprised with the replay numbers. Generally speaking I think the best officials (as a whole) are the Big XII, Big 11 and Big East. I am not surprised to see the SEC, ACC, and Pac 10 be the outliers in the replay statistics.

Bottom line is this: either Bob Thomas or his headline writers don't know a thing about replay, or Bob was trying to mislead his readers.

Looks can be decieving. The SEC is only changing one play per every 5 games. There were at least two plays in the Kentucky vs Indiana game that should have at least been stopped to look at closer. One of which should have been changed.
