If that's true, how come ASU, with 2 Pac-10 losses had LSU beat ?

Why did USC light up Arkansas for 70, while Bama could barely put up 20?

The Pac-10 has 4 or 5 of the Top-10 offenses in the country...the SEC couldn't stop them either.

For the record, WSU is horrible...judging anything by them is a joke

No they lost to LSU because of a BS call by the refs.

Refs? Oh my bad.

Pac-10, they have all the best defenses.

After doing some research on http://www.ncaa.org I found the HIGHEST ranked efense was Cal at 28 followed by USC at 45.....give me a fucking break.

Also, if I recall correctly, wasn't the game decided on special teams? Didn't LSU's late scores come from kicking game miscues by ASU?

Overall though, yeah, I get the "weak defenses in the Pac 10" argument, though such statements must be tempered with the realization that the existence of so many killer Pac 10 offenses has a lot to do with those higher scores.

The Pac 10's overall out of conference, bowl record and NFL representation speak to the overall excellence of Pac 10 play. I won't say that the Pac 10 is better overall than the SEC or the Big Ten (I will say they're better than the Big XII and, until just recently, the ACC) but I definitely feel that year in, year out the Pac 10 is wildly underrated by the eastern part of the nation.

Did you watch the game? They lost to LSU because they had 2 punts blocked when they were leading by 2 scores in the 4th quarter.

It shouldn't be too hard to post great defensive stats in the SEC.

The SEC has only ONE team in the Top 30 of total offense.

In comparison, the Pac-10 has seven.

It's the offenses, not the defenses....LSU gave up 560 yards to Arizona State when they played them. That is 100 yards OVER ASU's average.

The SEC has 3 teams in the Top-50 of total offense. Don't talk about playing defense until your teams show that they can against actual offenses.

I watched most of UCLA's comback against WSU. That was pitiful.

I don't see how any PAC 10 school could get thru a season in the SEC without 2 or 3 losses. Yes, USC included. No way, week after week, they wouldn't get beat down by real defenses.
Other than ND, when was the last time you saw a school outside of The Pac-10 show any defense against SC and a handful of other schools from the Pac? This is such a fucking empty and stupid statement that we tend to deal with regularly. It's just hilarious when the bowls come around and these shcools outside of the Pac-10 come to realize why their scores are so high and they are atonsihed and exhausted when they realzie they can not keep up.

Stat dorks...of course the Pac-10 defensive stats are down. Give them some of those piss poor offenses to handle throughout a year and their STATS will LOOK great too.

Yawwwn. So which sacrificial lamb will come out to shut down the Trojans this year? Michigan? Oklahoma? Puhleaze. I'll be so scared when they limit the Trojans to 45 points.

Oh and one more for good ol PISC measure.

What have these school's offenses looked like against the SC title game's defense?

That's what I thought.

Here is a little nugget for Pac 10 fan to chew on.

Texas is ranked 3rd in total defense and 8th in total offense. Also keep in mind that the Texas defense will be facing the #2 offense this saturday and the Texas offense has already faced the #9 defense on the list.

The highest ranked Pac 10 defense on the list is Kal at 28. There are only 2 Pac 10 schools in the top 50 in total defense. I don't want to hear this bullshit about great offenses in the Pac 10, we are in week 7 of the college football season so far most teams have only played 3 conference opponents. That means that the majority of teams have played half conference and half nonconference opponents. You mean to tell me that the conference opponents have skewed the numbers that much to make your defenses look that bad.

Offense rank:
#71 Ohio St.

I think I just threw up in my mouth.. :(

USC has played

#12 Notre Dame
#13 Oregon
#22 Hawaii

Oregon State has played

Yes, the offenses the Pac-10 teams have faced are skewing the results. Half of the teams that these Pac-10 teams have played are in the Top 20% of offenses in the country.

Anyone find it funny that the topic is Pac-10 defenses and Jayduck spinned it to talk about Pac-10 offenses?

Yes the Pac-10 usually has good offenses.

:suprise:

Well let's see, in last years' MNC game SC "held" the sooners to 19 points, their second lowest total of the season. 9 of those points were after SC had built up a 45 point lead.

It's very easy to appear to have a good defense when you don't face good offenses.

This this topic was started by an SEC fan about Pac-10 defenses, lets look at the comparisons we have.

Arkansas vs. USC

USC - 70 points, 736 yards

Arkansas vs. SEC teams

Vanderbilt - 28 points, 408 yards
Auburn - 34 points, 436 yards
Alabama - 24 points, 301 yards

LSU vs. ASU

ASU - 31 points, 560 yards

LSU vs. SEC teams

Tennessee - 30 points, 320 yards
Mississippi St. - 7 points, 229 yards
Vanderbilt - 6 points, 138 yards
Florida - 17 points, 206 yards

It's night and day. These defenses are getting torched by Pac-10 teams and doing well against SEC teams.

Who gives a fuck? In SC's case, they don't need a stellar defense, they just need a capable defense because they're hanging 30-50 points on everyone.

Every time T-rix posts, he finds himself waist deep in his own excrement. His lacky, Connie Corleone is not far behind. Take your bruised egos from your sorry assed teams to some shrink, cuz, like your lesbian wives, we don't give a fuck about your depression; cept that it clouds your senses and we muddle through reading your inane takes....you should be fined for wasting people's time.

Post less....

coming from seer I will take this as a compliment.

Jayduck, I stand corrected, Its good to see someone represent with facts. I can see how the defensive numbers can be somewhat skewed by the offenses you face. I guess this argument like the whole conference debate is not going to be settled til the end of the season.

though I can't for the life of me see how this is going to be settled.

Uhhhh.....(checks thread title).....okay....teh topic is defense. Pac-10 tard talks about offense.

Defense wins championships. Period. I'll take a great defense over a great offense every time. USC has dodged bullets the last two years.....fine, but the swiss-10 still sucks.

Oh, I see.

So it's only this year that Pac 10 defenses are lousy.
You're saying that they've always been solid before.

My mistake. Carry on.
