The problem is that Big 12 country only has KC, Houston, and Dallas as media markets-and people in Dallas don't really give a shit about college ball.

Pac-10, ACC, etc all have major media markets that whomp on the Big 12 markets.

Wow when did we lose Denver and St Louis? BTW the fact that San Antonio and Austin have grown together has made the combo one of the top 20 media markets.

The Big 12 does need a better contract, I hate the Notre Dame Broadcasting Network. but if they came up with a legit contract i would be all for leaving ABC and ESPN.

Oklahoma City and Witchita aren't exactly a small media market anymore either.

Try averaging more than 2-3 teams in the top 25. That would be a start.

Oh please the Big 12 has one bad year and everyone is ready to proclaim us the Big LEast.

Colorado is the most underrated team in college football. There is no reason why they are not in the top 25. They have had 2 losses to teams in the top 5.

The Okies and Nebraska wil be back and if a$m gets rid of their coach they might be good again as well.

As a non Big 12 fan, I actually long for the days of those powerhouse KSU teams, and the Big 12 Title game used to be one of the most exciting games of the season, as a viewer. The cream of the crop has shifted to Texas this year, and OU will of course be back, but the problem that has plagued the Big12 of recent years has been too many doormat teams. All conferences have them, but the Big 12 tends to thrive there.

By the way, the Baylor-OU game was on FSN up here and I admit I watched most of the 2nd half and OT.

We just got FSN 2 weeks ago on local cable. I watched a bit of the BU/OU game too. A&M has played many games on FSN this year so hopefully I will be getting those as well. Now, the digital cable offers ESPN Gameplan so I'm excited about next season getting to watch any more games.

There was some talk in the mid-90s of expanding the conference to 14 teams in order to include New Mexico and Utah. That would have given the conference the largest viewing Market in all of College football. To do that they would have added BYU to the North and New Mexico to the South. I personally think it would have been a really smart idea to do cause it would not have changed the power structure but it would have helped with TV contracts.

Our tv-deal is garbage, especially when you have to watch so many games on sorryass FSN. The production standards are horrible, replay is a dirty word, they'd rather show players mill around between plays.

I'd be interested to see how those stack up against the Big Ten and Pac-10 markets.

The Big 10 has 8 markets in the top 25 compared to the Big 12's 4 markets. As for the Pac-10, you have 6 markets in the top 25. It's not really a fair comparison. While you could argue that the Big 12 holds 3 of the most recognizable names in football based on history (Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska), I think it comes down to tv homes for the networks.

However, I have to wonder why the Big 12 can't be on CBS or on ESPN. Maybe it is time to steal a team for each of the leagues. BYU? Wyoming? Arkansas? Some midmajor teams like New Mexico? Adding another bordering state team wouldn't hurt.
