Shit - Air Force always seemed to me to be able to run well. They held on to that wishbone longer than brad held off on the inevitable to-go container.

Let's be honest- how many minorities want to join the Air Force? :o

Time to face facts - service academies are for student-athletes. They should adjust their w/l expectations accordingly.

Of course, there are many minority student-athletes, but the guy is talking about recruiting more legitimate football talent, and that talent looks elsewhere to play football.

They occasionally do have legit 1-A talent, like Schlegel...but they can't seem to retain it.

He said noting that isnt obvious to everyone who watches pro sports. Black players joke about how slow white people are and there are obvious stereotypes when it comes to certain positions in football and every position in basketball. He is just an older gentleman who belives that his program would win more games w/ better athletes. I hate how its ok to point how great black athletes are if you are black, but as soon as a white guy makes an observation he is a racist.

Its not like he said, "Shit. We suck. If we had some of them colored boys on our team, we could get to a bowl game. Man, i dont care if they cant read, they much faster than us slow white folks."

Political correctness strikes again.

We are no longer permitted by liberals to speak about differences in human ability...to the liberals, we are all equal in every sense.

Newsflash...we are not. There are inate differences that give individuals advatanges or disadvantages relative to others.

Wake up.

When did the Liberals start to field a team?

The statement is true but whenever someone says it, the media freaks the hell out...especially when it's a white guy.

Sorry, but the reaction to the statement is entirely political in nature...is it not? The only reason the statement raised any eyebrows and generated that reaction it did is PC attitudes.

And SS's question was, "Uh...exactly what did he say that is so shocking?" Was it not?

So, no, you can't remove from this discussion the very reason the reaction to it was based upon.

Political or not, don't bring it into this forum. It generated a reaction because it perpetuates a sterotype that you may or may not belive to be true. It's in the same vein of what Al Campanis said on nightline. Most sterotypes are offensive, and this is why it is being talked about. It has nothing to do with liberals or conservatives. So, again, if you would like to make this a political argument, please feel free to copy and past it into the Spin Zone.

I think there needs to be a league created just for schools like the Academys. Call it D-1SA or Division 1 student athletes. The league can include

Service Academys
Rice
Stanford
Ivey league schools

And any other schools that require its students to actually qualify to get in and actually study go to class and get a degree.

I would watch them on principal alone.

I bet they could figure out a way to get a playoff system.

Eat a dick. Sudden asked about the reaction to the statement. I answered it.
It generated a reaction because it perpetuates a sterotype that you may or may not belive to be true.
That's one way of looking at it. But that, too, is political in nature.
It's in the same vein of what Al Campanis said on nightline. Most sterotypes are offensive, and this is why it is being talked about.
Hence, again, the political nature of the controversy.
It has nothing to do with liberals or conservatives.

The reaction has to do with a liberal philosophy regarding individual racial/ethnic traits. The reaction we see wouldn't exist if not for this.
So, again, if you would like to make this a political argument, please feel free to copy and past it into the Spin Zone.
So, again, eat a dick if you do not like it.

The controversy surrounding this is innately political in nature.

Detard could make the packaging of HoHos into a political thread.

That being said, the old man obviously forgot that when you say something like "Afro-American kids can run very, very well" without qualifying that statement in any way, that you are implying a negative stereotype about the black athlete that has been used to justify all kinds of discrimination from who plays QB to who is hired to coach the team.

Was DeBarry being racist? I doubt it. Football coaches are way too single minded to be racist. The only thing they care about is the game. Universities would do well to have a 2 day real world orientation semminar for their athletic coaches every so often, so they can be safely brought into the present decade.

A stereotype has nothing to do with political views. It's a oversimplified, often offensive, conception of reality. It has nothing to do with the PC crowd or any type of liberal philosophy.

Your way of "debating" is similar to someone pushing on a bruise and asking if it hurts. You try to stir the pot, piss people off, and get a reaction. If you want to do that in the political forum, fine. Don't do it here.

it'll be interesting to see how this all falls out in Colorado. Fisher and AFA football are the closest thing to bullet-proof in the local sports media.

completely immune from any criticism whatsoever.

now, if Barney had said it.......every "sports journalist" and talk host on the dial would be killing the guy. i'm no big CU guy (they do sign my checks--and i've been following the Big 8 my whole life) but the double-standard is pretty ridiculous.

Didn't say it did. I merely pointed out that the reaction to this statement, that SS was inquiring about, is undoubtedly political as it is a symptom of political correctness.

The reaction to this type of statement is a typical liberal knee-jerk response owing to a hypersensitivity to politically incorrect racial stereotypes.
It's a oversimplified, often offensive, conception of reality. It has nothing to do with the PC crowd or any type of liberal philosophy.
Sorry, but stereotypes can contain a lot of truth no matter how offensive that stereotype might be.

Don't be a bitch.

You're denying the obvious response to SS's inquiry.

BTW -- DeBarry was talking about "black athletes." And "black athletes" tend to run very well, whether you believe it or not.

You should be a more careful reader.

Don't be a bitch and be a more careful reader, coming from you, is like Ted Kennedy coming out as an advocate for swimming classes.

I didn't say that the comment wasn't true. And for someone who is giving out advice to read more carefully, you should re-read my first post in this thread. You're act is getting very tired in this forum.

That would have some potency if it reflected something remotely related to reality. That it doesn't reduces it to a mere swing and miss...
I didn't say that the comment wasn't true. And for someone who is giving out advice to read more carefully, you should re-read my first post in this thread.
Your first post is not what I was responding to, Killian. I was responding to SS's question.

I responded to your comment that I should leave out the political angle if I was going to discuss this matter. Unfortunately, the shocked reaction to this kind of comment is premised on political correctness. That's what I called it.

Feel free to tell me it's untrue and explain why. but don't attempt to shut down discussion of an obvious reason for the reaction that SS was asking about.
You're act is getting very tired in this forum.
Ah, yes, the tired retort of a snob.

On a local radio show multiple black guys called in and said they weren't offended a bit. The only ones offended are PC-idiots and other members of the FAR-left. I have no use for those of either political extreme, and I could give a shit if they're pissed.
