Quite intriguing indeed. I've read parts of the books this morning and it's incredible how he managed to get away with it for such a long time. His own kids only found out recently.

Yea it was a lame attempt at irony, I would like to retract

It makes you wonder though, all the reports, stats, game plans not to mention very complicated contracts he had to deal with on a daily basis. I'm surprised it's only comming out now. It goes to show how much respect he must have garnered from his inner circle, surely someone had to know or atlest suspect and stayed quiet.

Is his name on the Stanley Cup, and if so, can he find it?

Ditto.

Seriously though, good for him. It would take a lot of courage to admit that, luckily he has a Stanley Cup right to flash in the face of anyone who laughs at him. I always liked Demers, and he is great on RDS.

I was a wee lad when he coached the Wings. I vaguely remember the time he was in Detroit. My earlier hockey memories were with Bryan Murray as the Wings coach.

I'm just curious to how a person is defined as illiterate. Could he read and write some things and just not everything or was he completely inept at reading and writing? The story definitely surprised me when I heard about it. His problem didn't seem to hurt his ability to communicate which is a coach's most important trait.

I was flipping the Canadiens/Sabres game last night. I happened to flip between periods and there was Demers, buthe had a pile of papers in frony of him on the desk. What's the point of that, decoration? 8)

Demers was on the radio here in Toronto on Friday where he clarified that while he's technically illiterate, he can read as long as the words are relatively simple, it just takes complete concentration without any interruption to do so.

In other words, a typical velocet post would probably force him to suffer a brain aneurysm.

He'd have no trouble with Hap's post then.
