ND 6-2 and ranked number 7??????

This is a result of severe media bias. There is no way to have a team ranked that high with a defense that is 86th in the country.
I have to ask the resident domers.....is your ranking justified???????
http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/natlRank.jsp ... f&site=org
This goes back to who have they beaten????
A bad Michigan team?
A bad Tennessee team?
Who have you lost to?
A bad unranked MSU team.
A great USC team.
UF has lost to the number 4 and 5 team. Two losses as well. How about OSU? UF and Ohio State I feel are both better than ND.
note: Please refrain from any "mighty SEC" bullshit when using Arkansas or Tennessee to make any whacked out claim as such. Thanks.

and you beat Vanderbilt in overtime.
Lost to Bama by 4 TD's and only beat that bad Tennessee by 9 as opposed to ND beating them by 3TD's Nice try bitch, now go away.

Underachieving? Yes.
Bad? No.
Tennessee is bad. Michigan State is bad.

If you go back and reread that article about Weiss's extension you will know how unspectacular thier season has been. Their only real claim to fame is that they almost beat USC. Or IOW their biggest accomplishiment is a loss. Kinda like KAL last season.
Here is a list of teams I think would beat ND in any situation.
USC
Texas
LSU
Miami
FSU
Auburn
Georgia
Florida
Ohio State
Penn State
These teams would be a tossup
Taco Tech
Vtech
Oregon
Alabama
Colorado
Wisconsin
Michigan State (yes I know they already beat them)
As you can see I don't have a whole lot of respect for ND, yet. They do have a heck of a coach but their defense ain't that good. Right now I see them winning with a lot of smoke and mirrors.

No can do. Not gonna agree with these two being a gimmee win vs. ND.
#1. Before he even came to the realization that his team was already down by 14, Bowden would look across the field and find Weiss happily waving FSU's offensive playbook back at him. Played 10 times, FSU would win 4, imo.
#2. Shockley or no Shockley, I don't think UGA's got the horses to beat ND either. They've had a few too many tight games with teams that they have no biz styaing close to. UGA does nothing for me.
#3. I'm on the fence about UF. I'll give it to ya.

He is the SEC's best pro qb prospect.

Out of the 7 that are a toss up, I think there are 2, maybe 3 where ND wouldn't be favorite.
Smoke and mirrors? They average nearly 40 points a fucking game. Their defense isn't as bad as T REX thinks it is, and comes up big when it has to.
And to the question, are they ranked where they should be? I think they should be the higest ranked 2 loss team. And should UF be ranked that high with an offense that is so bad?

Cutting through the spin- N.D lost in OT to a MSU TEAM that at the time, was playing great. ND took what may turn out to be the team of the decade to the wire in one of the greatest games witnessed by many.
For get records for a second. ask yourself this question: If a team had to be matched against any team in the country who would you say has the best shot at winning? N.D or Florida. If you answer that question honestly that pits to rest this thread.

So they didn't have Riggs. Do they have 70+ other players that can play. Their defense is pretty good and ND shredded them. He's a prospect, that's it, nothing more nothing less. Prospect doesn't mean crap. I'd rather have Quinn. He'll actually have a pro career that amounts to something. A win is a win, you play against who's out there. Injuries prove that a team has or doesn't have depth. If Darius Walker gets hurt I'm sure ND can plug in someone to be just as effective. Go away bitch.

I don't hate ND I actually don't really have too much to say about them except that I have watched a few games and their defense is as bad as Trix says it is. They do have a great QB and a very good offense that will get better as Weiss gets better player in but as of right now. They are very much overrated. As of right now their biggest claim to fame was a loss. And yes I do think they somewhat got screwed in that game by where the ball was spotted but nothing can change that now.
Someday I think ND will be a scary good opponent but that day isn't today.

So the question is, what two loss team has performed better this year? OSU? I agree. They're about the only team with a similar record that can make a claim to be ranked ahead of Notre Dame. Notre Dame has 2 close losses, one close win, and the rest are blow out wins. What more can they do?
I'm not saying that Notre Dame is the best team in the country, nor should they be ranked ahead of Penn State, Va Tech, or any other teams with one loss.
What games have you watched, Vito? When has their defense looked horrible? They struggled against Tenn in the first 3 quarters, but even then, Tenn had a TD set up by a ND fumble. But they made critical plays when they were necessary.

While I tend to agree that ND is ranked overly high, I don't think it will matter that much. ND was ranked 14th in the BCS and while they might move up a little, I dont' think it will play a huge factor.
Especially when one considers their next few opponents and the hit that will take on their ranking.

They're supposed to be 11th when the BCS comes out today. As long as they are in the top 12, they'll get selected.

Starters are STARTERS for a reason dipshit. Please spare us the "your back-ups shoul dbe as good as your starters" bullshit. If they were, THEY would be starting. Riggs is a great talent. You make a claim about the differences in scores and when I mention that their bad ass TB was missing you spew out a bunch of bullshit.
ND played a depleted Tenn team. They won, but let's not act like it was 1998. Okay.

Fair to question. ND lost close to MSU (which
right now looks shitty, but at that time Sparty was playing tough) & to USC (we all know what happened there). OSU lost heartbreakers to #2 and #6. :? If the Bucks win in Ann Arbor, then yeah, OSU could have a definitive claim there.
As for Florida, if we're talking about teams that could
almost be in the one-loss column... that ass-whoopin' in Tuscaloosa doesn't help much.

If so, the only team I can think that would/could be upset is TT as they will be ranked 12th or 13th, with just one loss.
OSU will be ranked ahead of them so I don't see a big problem. Maybe they aren't that good but they are ND.

Alright, lets put this line of thinking to rest right the fuck now. MSU was playing well when they met Notre Dame. Yeah, sure, okay. But they had only played KENT STATE and HAWAII at that point. Beating these two schools is not "playing tough." It's beating two OOC cupcakes.
After beating ND, they drop 60 on Illinois before choking against Michigan, Ohio State, Northwestern and now Purdue.
They weren't fucking playing tough and that argument is bullshit. MSU was beating up on two weak-assed teams.
On the other hand, ND had already beaten Michigan, hence, they could be characterized as having already played a tough game, but then choked against what clearly appears now to be an inferior team.
Lets not sugar-coat ND's loss to a clearly inferior State team. ND choked and choked badly after having beat Michigan.

I would agree with you on this subject. Playing tough then but not now or vice versa is not a strong argument. While teams do go up and down, it is still the same team minus glaring injuries. Whether a team decides to show up or not is part of the team, not an indication of whether they are hot or cold.
OSU's offense didn't show up against PSU, but that doesn't mean they were cold at that point in the season, the O just couldn't get it together. So, in ND's case, they didn't lose to a tough MSU team, they didn't play their game and lost to a worse team.

I just hate that argument when used for early games. It's even worse when you start seeing people yap about their team beating a team that was ranked high in week two or three or four.
These arguments only starts to work once the season has, at least, made it into conference play, and is a good argument when teams are beyond the halway point of that conference play. By then teams that are ranked have had a chance to play at least one good team and maybe two decent teams. If they win those, then they are playing tough and probably ranked in the top 25.
It's a bogus argument and one of the weakest ones that could be made.

T-Bitch, you're amazing.
UF 16
UT 7
ND 41
UT 21
Seems to me that both teams played the same UT defense and your bitch ass gators couldn't score more than 16 points. Fine, put Riggs out there. ND still scores 41 and wins the game.
Not to mention that it took Florida 2 OT's to beat an always tough Vanderbilt team.

Try not to be such a whiny bitch. So you beat a team more than UF did, so what? What exactly does that mean?
NOTHING!!!! What does one have to do with another? NOTHING!!!!!!!! You know this and ND is OVERRATED!!!!!!!!!

To answer Trix's question, I really pay attention only to the BCS ranking, which is the only ranking that matters. ND is ranked #11 in the BCS rankings right now, of the teams ranked ahead of them I'd put ND ahead at least of Oregon, even though Oregon has only one loss.
Sky wrote:Especially when one considers their next few opponents and the hit that will take on their ranking.
Disagree. The next closest to ND in BCS rankings is Taco Tech, who trails ND by .0640. Barring a loss, in which case their BCS ranking becomes irrelevant, I don't see ND getting leapfrogged. Meanwhile, at least one of the teams above ND (LSU-Alabama loser) will probably drop below ND.
Killian wrote:They're supposed to be 11th when the BCS comes out today. As long as they are in the top 12, they'll get selected.
Sadly, I don't share this optimism. ND was ranked in the Top 12 in 1998 and 2002, and missed the BCS both years. Yeah, there's a different feel to things this year, but I'm not confident unless we're Top 6, and I don't see us getting to that point this year unless we get
a lot of help.
I suppose the difference for 1998 and 2002 was that we suffered a disappointing season-ending loss to USC both years, whereas this year we should end on a 5-game winning streak. OTOH, there are plenty of teams that could give us a run for at-large bids:
- tOSU.
- Va Tech: If Va Tech and Miami both win out, Va Tech will end the season with one loss, and will not be in the ACC championship game. Based on history, not participating in a conference championship game has proven to be a huge advantage viz. BCS at-large bids.
- Georgia: If Georgia and Florida both win out, Georgia sits out the SEC championship game with only one loss. See Va Tech above. Of course, Georgia will have to get by Auburn.
- Oregon: Only one loss.
Of course, ND has a much bigger fan following than any of these schools, with the possible exception of tOSU. But on the downside, ND has a much smaller student body than any of these other schools (true, the students don't travel to the bowl games as a general rule, but a smaller student body also translates to a smaller alumni population). Also, Oregon may have a built-in geographical advantage, due to the fact that the Fiesta Bowl likely will have two slots to fill and will have to fill at least one of them with a team east of the Mississippi.

I haven't posted any more this year than any previous year, except I am defending Texas more and more against the stupidity of guys like Van=Tard. I've been on this board for the good bad and ugly, so I think I'm entitled to be here for the great year as well.

I've seen ND play USC, MSU, Tennessee, MIchigan, and parts of the BYU game. I don't look at record as the defining reason why one team can beat another. The ND defense is slow, very slow they have a decent dline but the back 7 are not that good. I still feel that the list I posted is pretty accurate.
Now if we are just considering the 2 loss teams then yes I would include FSU, OSU, and Colorado in that list. I would not necessary include teams like UCLA or Alabama because they are very much overrated.

Stay tuned for what? I know they type of fan you are, T REX. Should ND win out, go to a BCS bowl game and beat the Big East winner, they're overrated because it was just the Big East winner. If they played PSU and beat PSU, PSU was overrated to begin with and the win by ND wouldn't be that impressive. If they get Toryan Smith and Sam Young this year in recruiting, it's because UF didn't want them and they had bigger fish left on their board. If Notre Dame wins the National Championship next year, it will be lucky because they will have all their tough games at home, and the USC team they beat was a shell of the team from the last few years because of all the players who left early.
There is no way in your mind Notre Dame wouldn't be overrated unless they had the #1 offense and defense in the country. Even then, you would find something to bitch about.
