Niiice clock management, Gnats

Situation is this: G-men down 21-13 and just pick up a first down at the 3 yard line with about 1:30 time left. They rush up to the line and proceed to spike the ball stopping the clock with 1:25 left.
WTF? Why are you in a hurry and why the hell are you stopping the clock? Even if you tie the game, you've left the Vikes way too much time to come back and kick a winning FG. Which is exactly what happens. I'm saying this to myself right after the dumbass decision to spike the ball. I don't know if this call was made by Eli or Coughlin, but needless to say, the NY media is gonna' be all over this bone headed move.
Niiice special teams play today also Gnats, and thanks for wiping out my 13 point confidence pick.

Eli not only looked horrible, but looked scared. The Gnats are toast.

I'd be scared of a bunch of Vikings too.

The Giants will win the NFC east, The Dolts will sit out the playoffs, and Eli will still be in Chargerfan's head when he retires.
The spike was stupid though.

I assume they were out of timeouts when they spiked the ball. The main reason you leave time on the clock is if they score their touchdown but miss the 2 point conversion. Plus, you want to be able to give yourself enough time to run 3 rushes without having to waste another down with spiking the ball. They did waste a down already with the spike. Had they not gotten the 2 point conversion, they'd have 30 seconds to a minute left to get the onside kick and work their way into field goal range for a possible win. If this was a 7 point margin, I think you have to run the clock down more because getting the extra point won't be as big of an issue and you just take their chances with OT. They fortunately got their 8 points to tie the game but they fell asleep when the Vikings got the ball back. Considering the Vikings didn't score one offensive TD all game and prior to the final drive Johnson had less than 100 yards passing...Coughlin had to feel comfortable with his defense to leave time on the clock.
Being that I'm not a GiantFan but I am a guy who started Eli Manning on his fantasy team...I'm not enraged about the result of the game plus I'm still beating the first place team this week by 20 points in spite of Eli's 4 picks. I can see where you can criticize Coughlin but at the same time, I feel I made a good case for the other side of the argument. Coughlin left himself with an out and made the percentage play on downing the ball and his defense had played well enough up to this point for him to leave time on the clock. The only concern would've been their special teams allowing another return but Robinson only took the kick back to the 28. The defense blew the game as much as Coughlin did.
