Week 10 Observations

What's In a Name?
Let's hop in the way-back machine for a moment. It's halftime of the Chiefs game. Larry Johnson has already rumbled to 100 yards, and Trent Green has been a disaster. He's fumbled, thrown an interception and been sacked three times. Dick Vermeil trots into the locker room for his half time adjustments. It's a windy day, and you're facing the league's 31st-ranked run defense.

Any sane coach would shift the game plan toward the run. But not Vermeil. Undaunted by Green's ineptitude, Vermeil actually called more passes in the second half despite never trailing by more than 11 points. Green rewarded his faith with two second-half interceptions. Meanwhile, Johnson was used sparingly and only managed 32 second-half yards. Thanks for living up to your name, Dick.

I didn’t see the game, but the stats seem to bear out his premise. The curse of Marty, Scott? Bwhaha...better get Dicky some Cialis, he shot his load last week.

Another good observation:

Simmer Down
Probably hoping to get into his dad's good graces and land better gigs, the analysts calling the Buccaneers-Redskins game were quick to anoint Chris Simms as the savior of the franchise. They lavished him with hyperbole like "every pass he threw was right on the money" and "we saw Chris Simms mature into a pro quarterback this afternoon." It sounds a lot like the same stuff they were saying about Eli Manning two weeks ago; maybe you saw him this week trickling a win down his leg against the Vikings? Simms wasn't bad, but he completed barely 50 percent of his passes and the average start position of his five scoring drives was the Redskins' 49. To paraphrase the Wolf from Pulp Fiction, let's not be premature in our showering of praise just yet.

Eli was definitely peeing down his leg Vs the Vikes. The Vikings....Eli? Bwhaha put a fork in em’.

Ummmm, Aikman and Buck were doing the game. They are Fox's #1 team and arguably the best tandem in Pro football.

More from the KC rumor mill:

Multiple reports indicate that Dick Vermeil hasn't spoken to Priest Holmes since his injury.

CBS reported the news during Sunday's game. ProFootballtalk.com takes the story further, saying that Vermeil is furious he was completely left out of the loop regarding Holmes' health and decision to be placed on IR. There are rumors Vermeil could step down before the season is even over, and few observers expect him back next season.

Yeah, he showed real lack of poise when he led the Giants back against the Broncos. He had a bad game and he'll probably have others, don't forget he has only started about a season's worht of games.

Do you actually think his poor perfromance was just a bad game? The truth is now teams have more than a couple of games worth of tape on him. So teams are adjusting, taking away what he has done well up to now. Expect more of the same.

Bottom line is Eli played scared yesterday, and once that happens......

As a matter of fact I can't remember a QB who I saw playing scared....ever regain his poise.

I was referring to writer saying that the announcers were only thrwoing praise in order to get better broadcasting gigs. Since they are the #1 team on Fox, I dont see how it could get much better for them outside of MNF. I agree, I think Simms looked much better. If he played that way against the Niners we would have won by 14 points.

You mean after they were 0-3 or 1-4?

Yep, that bandwagon really had some serious momentum last season.

As for this year, we just had a bad road loss, but we're still 5-4 which is tied for second with, let's see...wait a minute, it'll come to me...oh yeah, the fucking Blots. Who still have to come to Arrowhead for their annual beatdown.

Gotcha. I think Gruden doesn't get enough credit at doing well with QBs. Hell, look at Gannon, B Johnson, Griese, and if Simms pans out. Not bad.

No, more like I didn't elaborate enough. When I wrote bandwagon, what I really meant was team. Like last season when the Bolts rested all their starters during the last game Vs KC, readying them for the playoffs. Going to that game I thought it sucked to have basically an extra exhibition game. What I didn't expect was a Chef team that had mailed it in and rolled over before the game even started.

This year with an older veteran team and HC contemplating retirement, I thought if things started going south for the Chefs, the bottom would drop out again...quickly. I guess we'll find out soon enough.......

Besides wags, you know it wouldn't be much fun starting this thread in 2 or 3 weeks when the Griefs are in 3rd place and obviously out of it. :wink:
