Just a little bit to get the blood boiling:

"I read your book, you SOB!"--holding up Bo Schembechler's book after 1970 game

"How did our great rivalry get started? Well, the real fight started back in 1836 when Andrew Jackson, that wily old cuss, took Toldeo away from that state up north and gave it to us."

"I didn't like that SOB when he played for me, I didn't like him when we worked for me, and I certainly don't like him now."--on Schembechler

"We do not pull in and fill up. And I'll tell you why we don't. It's becuase I don't buy one [goshdarn] drop of gas in the state of Michigan. We'll coast and push this car to the Ohio line before I give this state a nickel of my money."--to assistant coach Ed Ferkany as they were low on gas in Michigan

"They're traitors! They're traitors!"--on Lantern sportswriters who picked OSU to lose to Michigan in 1971

"They couldn't beat me with two Michigan coaches. So they had to come down here and take a coach that I trained. And they haven't beaten me with him yet."

"All right, men, don't eat the salad. They're trying to poison us."--eating at a motel in Ann Arbor

"We don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan."

"Spoiled, hell! I think the bastards are probably trying to poison us or something! Cancel the dinner here tonight. We're making other plans."--when an assistant coach commented that the salad smelled funny while the team ate lunch in Michigan

"You're going to Michigan? Why, you dumb no-good [ ]. You go right ahead! You go there, and when you play against Ohio State we'll just see whether you gain a yard against us all day. We'll break you in two."--to a recruit who told him he was going to Michigan

"Men, this is war! I don't care anything about the national championship or the Big Ten championship, but if we win this game today and afterward, if the Good Lord says, 'Woody, it's your time', I'll say, 'Lord, I'm ready!'. I'll have to take it easy up there--or down there--but I know where I'll go."--before 1975 game

We all know how his career ended.

He was fucking with the media, Woody and Bo were close. They talked all the time and Bo speant time with Woody in his last days. They loved coaching against eachother, those were the greatest days of the rivalry.

Rack the 10 year war!!

Sure he made a stupid mistake but that isn't how he should be remembered.

Woody was a big part of college football that I know and love. That will never change. Never.

He's a jack ass.

He lost his last 3 games to Michigan, he couldn't handle it so he went nuts.

Fuck Him.

Woody's record vs Michigan: 16-11-1

Hayes refused pay raises because he believed they would interfere with winning; as a result, some of his assistants were paid more than he was. In 1978, his last season, Hayes' salary was $43,000.

So.... Woody was 16-8-1 after the '75 season when Archie graduated? I'll take that all day long.... although Tressel may even put together better numbers than that.

Don't flatter yourselves. Michigan had nothing to do with Woody grabbing the Clemson guy who was taunting Woody's sideline. It just pissed him off so bad that he just lost a very close game - a game he felt he should've won (Art Schiester "threw" the key interception.... hmmmmmm) - and then to have some redneck Clemson punk taunt him and his players.... well, it just pushed him over the edge (obviously). So he grabbed the guy and tried to talk some sense into him.

There was definitely some rebuilding involved after that awesome '75 class graduated. But, had Woody not grabbed that Clemson punk.... his '79 team would've been primed for another MNC run. As it stood, Coach Bruce made a nice run himself.... beating Michigan with Woody's players in Ann Arbor in his first season as a HC ('79).... barely missing the MNC with a 1-point loss to SC in the Granddaddy (I think Bama ended up with the crown that year).

Why did Woody hate Michigan so much? I can't find any article that explains his obsession and hence the creation of an entire nation of Assholew who Hate Michigan more than they love their own team.

Oklahoma beat Woody at the Shoe in 77. you can ask any Sooner fan and it's one of THE most memorable games in Sooner history. i remember watching that game---i was about 7 and after OU wins on a last second FG.....people were driving around in their cars all over our neighborhood in Norman honking and hootin' and hoolerin' and yelling and throwing empty beer cans and such.

though, if Thomas Lott and Sims don't get hurt, the game isn't even close. ;)
