BREAKING NEWS
Marlins' Beckett, Lowell headed for Boston
Sources tell CBS SportsLine's Scott Miller the deal will send P Josh Beckett and 3B Mike Lowell to the Red Sox for SS Hanley Ramirez, pitching prospect Anibal Sanchez and a pitcher to be named.
Let the winter wars begin...
MAJOR coup for Boston!

The Marlins are being sold for scrap a second time...unbelievable. How can anyone stay a fan of this team?
Pierre is supposedly on his way out...the Cubs are the leading candidate.
Burnett isn't going to re-sign...he'll be in a new uniform next season.
Delgado is rumored to be on the block...Baltimore is the team I see mentioned the most.
LoDuca and Castillo mentioned as trade bait...the Mets are a leading candidate for one of those two players.
What does this leave? Dontrelle, Cabrera and not much else. This was a team I had picked to go to the World Series this past season. Now, they're rebuilding.
Tremendous deal for the Sox. They desperately need starting pitching. Beckett has yet to reach his prime and he's beaten the Yankees in the posteason...that gives him street cred in Boston already. Mike Lowell is a bonus in the deal if he can return to form. I would bet this means Mueller isn't coming back.
It kind of breaks my heart to see that on Sportsline that the Tigers were actually in the talks for Beckett but there's no way you'll beat the Red Sox and their resources. The Rangers were reportedly offering Blalock and a pitching prospect. Don't know why the Marlins wouldn't take that offer instead.

Because the Rangers were not willing to part with Danks or Diamond. No way that trade was going down with either one of those 2 future monsters being involved.

So Boston gets a 3B who is coming off a horrible year and a pitcher who has injury problems. Ok, so what?

The Sox got Mota in the deal as well...
Interesting rumors on Sportsline today:
- (Red) Sox talking to the Brewers about Overbay...supposedly offered Clement. FOX Sports is reporting that Toronto is interested in Overbay.
- (White) Sox could keep Konerko according to local newspaper reports.
- Mets are leading in the Wagner sweepstakes and they are supposedly going to make an offer to Bengie Molina. Also, they haven't ruled out a trade to get Manny. FOX Sports is saying otherwise.
The Blue Jays are close to signing BJ Ryan...which breaks my heart because the Tigers were in talks with him. The Jays would be overpaying Ryan so maybe it's for the best that the Tigers didn't go down that road again.

Actually, with his age and the fact that Wagner was asking for pretty much the same amount on a per annum basis, the Jays didn't really overpay to get Ryan. They did overpay if you want to talk length of contract in that 5 year contracts are unusual for closers.
But his signing gets the ball rolling and tells AJ Burnett that they are serious contenders now. Getting him signed would allow them a possible starting rotation of Halliday, Burnett, Lilly, Miguel Batista and Chacin.
Burnett and Brian Giles are next up..
The Jays are back.
