Couldn't be better timing for my Vikings.

You wanted Mooch on that wall. You needed Mooch on that wall.

Long overdue...if you call 4 days long overdue. He should've been let go after the Thanksgiving game. I was pleased to see on ESPNEWS the next morning that the rumors were flying that he was in trouble. I like the guy as a person but he didn't do much for me as a coach. This was his year to either get this team into the playoffs or hit the road. This team is looking at another sub-.500 season...I'm fed up with this and I'm glad a change is being made.

I want to see Harrington play with all of the receivers and with the choke chain off of him. Hopefully whomever is the interim coach, Jauron most likely, will just let the guys play and I would like to see the end of the West Coast offense in Detroit...it's been a disaster for 5 years. I'd love to see a guy like Tom Moore get the job and have him bring in the wide open style of the Colts. I don't know if Harrington is the guy to run the offense but at least the next guy should bring a better scheme that suits the young, athletic skilled players.

Fearless prediction: Mooch will replace John LLLLLL Smith at MSU to be with his boy Izzo

You were going to win anyways...the Lions should play a little looser on Sunday though.

If they are smart they'll toss Millen out on his ass too.

He'll get one more coach and then I'd say he's gone. Two strikes right now with Mornhinweg and Mariucci. The talent is there and I think with the right guy, this is a playoff team. Millen has built a nice team but he and the coaches haven't been on the same page. It's time to get a guy who has some creativity on offense and get us back to the days of the Silver Stretch and the Great Lakes Offense.

If Juron committs to the run, look for the Lions to surprise down the stretch. What I saw on Thanksgiving was a defense hung out to dry by a coach intent on showing the world HIS system is the best way to go. Give the Lions D a chance to breathe and I think they can at least compete. Which would be a far cry from that abortion we saw on Thursday.

i don't know if the lions have the o-line to dedicate to the run. their o-line is arguably the worst facet of the team, as proven in every game. detroit's offense will improve with a new system, but not by much.

You've got to at least give them the chance. Against the Falcons, Jones ripped off 25 yards on 3 carries in the first drive and was ghost for the rest of the game. That kind of coaching is simply unacceptable.

If he still can't cut it in a generic system, he should be shown the door but I think Mariucci kept the clamps on him for the most part. His best games were towards the end of last season when the playbook was opened up. I'm hoping Jauron runs a liberal offense that allows Jones to get more carries and Harrington gets free reign to pitch it around. I'd put Orlovsky as the #2 and Garcia is done, he shouldn't play another game...bury him at #3.

I agree with Screw about the o-line...it's horrendous. I think they have to look at going for a lineman or an edge rusher with their first pick next spring.

opening up the playbook and going downfield will probably be the best thing for jones, considering harrington hits his targets. you will never win a football game if the opposing defense runs every play with eight men in the box, which is what teams frequently did to the lions because they knew they wouldn't air it out. i'm not even talking huge, big plays. i'm talking running routes and throwing the ball past the sticks on 3rd and 10 instead of the quick out to the flat which is good for seven yards at the MOST on average.

but then again, if the line can't give ANY qb time to throw the ball, then the running game will suffer as well as we have seen this season.

One of the reasons the Lions O-line is so poor is because defenses put so much pressure on it because they know Harrington won't be throwing down the field with the ball. If you have a capable QB, they will have to respect the passing game more, and won't put 8 in the box on every play, thus relieving some pressure on the O-line, which will of course enhance the running game.

Harrington having free reign to pitch it around is a scary thought. His throwing arm is fine, and shows accuracy occasionally, but he simply has no confidence when he's in the pocket. It seems like you only see a determined look on his face when he's standing on the sideline waiting to get back in the game. Having interest, confidence and guts when you're not in the game doesn't do you any good. As far as the O-line problems go as it relates to Harrington, he still seems to make mistakes even when they DO protect him. He's gotta go. He's been given enough chances.

Cheeyea, that Harrington. He has no pocket presence at all.
