Serious discussions going on between the Sox and Phillies... Angels also looking to deal for him but they may not want that much on the payroll.
This was reported on a local sports radio station.. looking for links..

That would be an interesting swap. Manny is the better run producer and has a little more pop but Abreu would give the Sox other dimensions with the fact he's got speed and he's a better glove in the outfield...also, he's a couple years younger. They'd save money in the deal too and they could keep Damon. Wonder what the Chowds think about that one.

I think you nailed it when you said the Sox could keep Damon with this move..

Do it. Lets be done w/ Mannygate already. As a fan, I caved and turned the other cheek seeing him do something stupid night after night. Dude was like clockwork. I just bought into the character that is "Manny" because I knew he would jack one when we needed one. As far as clubhouse goes, he's as spacy as the come, but I think everyone on that team just understood who we was and what he was about.
(Not as clutch as Papi) but, who is right now?
See ya, Manny you fuckin' whack-job.
(Stay out of the AL east please)
Time to free up some of that money and get some pitching & defense.

Manny for Abreu won't happen.
I won't be surprised to see the '06 season begin with Manny still in Boston.
It's not possible to get equal value in return for Ramirez's run production.

Manny for Alfonso is a possibility
I actually don't want Manny to go... but if he must... I wouldn't mind getting Soriano and putting him in the outfield (where he belongs).
He is a strong 3 tool player (defense is questionable). Hitsfor average, hits for power, great speed. for a strong 2 tool player and Alfonso is younger!
In other trade thoughts Mark Loretta for David Wells and Mirabelli is a no brainer and a good trade for both teams. Wells wants to leave, Mirabelli deserves to play but won't due to Varitek. The Padres get a pitcher and catcher for a 2B coming off thumb surgery...

Rumor is the 'Stros have offered Backe and Qualls plus prospects for Abreu. Looks like Clemens might be back after all.

Jack, I hear that Alfonseca is a 6-tool pitcher. Should the Sox go after him?

That's a cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee I'm never getting back. Anyone know if Dell has a sale on monitors?
