that's the supposed lowdown here in Boulder.
had a contract extension on his desk week before the ISU game and waited to improve his bargaining position.....now, sounds like he's gonzo.

I read on an independent site that they weren't going to fire him unless there was a better option available...the name being mentioned as his replacement: Steve Mariucci.

Mooch belongs in college. CU is a good place for him.

here's a list i posted on the CU getting it's asskicked thread. no order.
rumors about Barney's replacements: maybe more of a wish list so far:
Randy Shannon
Gary Kubiak (again)
Butch Davis
Chizik (i think could do better than CU eventually)
Pelini
David Gibbs (DC at Auburn, CU connections)
Mariucci
Rick Neuheisel (kidding).

Will CU send a private jet for Houston Nutt?

We might be desperate, but we're not
that desperate. At least not yet...
Kubiak is my #1 choice for the job. He's kind of fallen off the map in recent years with the Broncos struggling, but I think his experience in the pros could be a good lure for recruits.
I wouldn't mind Pelini either, just because I know how pissed Husker fan would be about that. And you know Pelini would enjoy kicking the shit out of Nebraska on a yearly basis.
Mariucci or Butch Davis? ehh... :| We could do better, but we could do worse. Don't really know much about those other guys.
As long as CU doesn't totally botch this hire (a la UNL) and the new coach doesn't wear sweater vests, I'll be happy.

I think CU should go Gene Chizik, infact, they should hire him right now, that way he can get to recruiting right away

Houston Nutt is another name that keeps surfacing. and there are Hog fans posting at Netbuffs.com reporting smoke and fire.
people forget that Kubiak "informally" took the CU job in 99....and then backed off the next day and then CU went after Barney after snubbing him before.
UF assistant Charlie Strong also getting some mention.

Fuck the Donkeys.....Kubiak sucks. So Colorado should hire him.

Man, I'd love those sort of struggles.

I said "in recent years." I probably should've added "until recently." In 99, the Broncos were just a year removed from back to back Super Bowl wins and Kubiak was considered one of the "hot" candidates for pretty much every job that opened up. From 99-04 they really didn't do shit and he kind of fell off the radar. But yes, they are in 1st place right now.

So Barney actually fucked himself out of the job by holding out back when folks thought his team was....you know... GOOD? That is hilarious.
Butch Davis would be a good choice. He brought Miami back to prominence while actually keeping it clean.
Kubiak would do OK, he was actually the next guy on Neb's list when BC fell into pedey's lap.
Both times Bo has had a defense all to himself they were highly ranked. He can motivate and recruits like him. He is a hot-head and bitter as hell towards Neb so CU fans would probably like him. He'd be a better hire than KSU made but I see CU going bigger.
I still think somebody needs to give Norm Chow a chance.
Patterson, Price, and Hawkins have all said they were staying where they are for now but they are worth considering. IMO Patterson could be bought.
Kragthorpe from Tulsa is a young coach with a lot of upside. I would probably take him over Strong.
Mooch won't be getting another shot to HC in the NFL for quite a while. He should jump if given a chance.

Colorado football, when this...

Homos.
That one right there of Bellucci jumps right into my all time Top 10. Danimal, let me just say that even as an agnostic....Holy fuck.

a turn of the screw: it's impossible to tell what's happening in Boulder right now. some media outlets reporting CU can't afford to buy out Barney, others that there are more allegations from an unsigned letter---it's a real circus.
speaking of Monica Belluci, she's totally hot and naked in a french film called Brotherhood of the Wolf. FYI. it's actually kind of an interesting film--in addition to it's beforementioned virtues.

Some of the other rumors: Barnett warned players well in advance of upcoming random drug tests. Also that he tried to get more $$$ in his contract extension by claming Mizzou was offering him more money to go there.
King Crimson wrote: Kubiak "informally" took the CU job in 99....and then backed off the next day and then CU went after Barney after snubbing him before.
Actually, Barnett was like the 3rd choice after Kubiak, and you BETTER have been fucking kidding about Little Ricky.
Another name being brought up all over the place: Dave Logan- which would have the added benefit of getting him the fuck out of the Broncos broadcast booth.

at least Hastings is gone. I'm not a bronco guy but Hastings was awful.
hey Cuda (sing along with me): "Fiiiirst Bank, Col-O-rado Bank for YOOU!".
apparently, back to barney, there seems to have a placed leak to Chris Dempsey at the D Post and reknowned moron and Barney hater Mark Kizla--but all that info was available at ANdrew Freidman's Buff Sports News premium site hours before the "leak" (about 10:30 Tuesday night)--some are blaming Bohn for leaking. there were even posts about it at Netbuffs.com.
yet, yesterday all the media clowns were wrasslin' to take credit for the scoop--from Dempsey who i used to like at the Camera because he was the only one who even MENTIONED college hoops (i cut him some slack), Kizla (buttwrench), and even the morons on KKFN sports radio (fools).

i guess there are some benefits to Logan in state--but i can't see a first year AD hanging his ass and reputation on a high school coach for his first major hire at the new job.
but, Bohn better have some sense of his next moves or this will get UGLY, real fast.

Have you thought of the possibility that the leak might have been from Barnett himself?
3 piss-poor performances in a row and a likely beatdown coming in the WGARA Bowl. If the boosters weren't stampeding off the bandwagon before, they will be soon enough.
Only way Barnett can still salvage some amount of future employability is by claiming, plausibly, to be the victim of a smear campaign. And since you can't leave smear campaigns to chance...

See Gene Corrigan and Gerry Faust at ND circa early 1980's.
Of course, in fairness, Corrigan had less to do with Faust's hiring than did Father Joyce, and the latter didn't exactly have to worry about job security.

the Foust comparison has been worked over on some Buff boards.....yet, Logan's name has been active for a couple years....and he's a CU guy.
if that's the best they can do, then they must have really been stiffed by a few candidates. IMHO.
though i'm just speculating. nothing has happened. supposedly, rumor of a 4:30 MST press conference....about barney. i woulnd't expect to have a hire in place for a couple weeks. unless Bohn has his ducks in a row.

Good fucking riddance, Barnett!
This assclown should have been fired a few years ago when he made his remarks about Katie Hnida.
I was watching the news tonight and saw interviews with the students. The ONLY students who cared were the football players!
Now, back to me not caring about college football.

They're paying Barnett $3 million to fire him.
No wonder he was smiling afterwards.

Word around here is that Jon Embree is a leading candidate for the Buff HC job....I think Dorrell would fit in Boulder nicely.....
Posted: Sat Dec 10, 2005 1:08 am

word in Boulder is that Embree (on the radio this AM) has not been contacted by AD Mike "the savior" Bohn.
i don't think Embree would be CU's first choice if Bohn's huffing and puffing is legit.
Bohn is promising a "Homerun"....i don't think Embree is "homerun".
I also think that CU would do well to just put the McCartney shadow behind them and go "out of the family".

You don't drop big $ to can Barney to bring in an Embree.
They should take a serious look at Kragthorpe from Tulsa, he is a hell of a young HC.

Of course Dan Hawkins of Boise State is mentioned tonight....from the Idaho Statesman:
Boise State football coach Dan Hawkins says he "probably would listen" if Colorado contacts him about replacing ousted coach Gary Barnett.
Hawkins' name immediately popped up in media reports as a potential replacement for Barnett, who was forced out Thursday.
Hawkins also has surfaced in connection with jobs at Baylor, Oregon State, Washington, Arizona, Stanford, Notre Dame and Kansas State during his five-year run as the Broncos' head coach.
Hawkins is 53-10, with four straight Western Athletic Conference championships, at BSU. He's in the first year of a five-year contract worth more than $2.6 million with a buyout of $850,000.
"It's one of those places that I always kind of start with my family first and I think it's a very livable place," Hawkins said after Friday's practice at Bronco Stadium.
"They've got a great tradition there, and they have won a national championship, so it's got some of those things to it."
Hawkins said he has not been contacted by Colorado. However, schools often contact coaches through third parties, and Colorado has hired a head hunter to help with its search.
The Colorado job has a rare combination going for it. It's in the West which is home for most of the BSU staff, and it's in a family-friendly town (Boulder) near a major city (Denver). The program also has the potential to win big, as evidenced by the co-national championship in 1990 and the four Big 12 North Division titles in the past five years.
Plus, Hawkins has a brother who lives in the Denver area.
"But I don't know that much about the whole situation," Hawkins said.
The negative at Colorado is the recent history of scandals. Most notably, allegations of sexual misconduct involving football players and recruits resulted in recruiting restrictions.
Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn obviously is aware of Hawkins, who was the assistant coach at BSU from 1998 to 2000 and was 40-11-1 in five years as the head coach at Willamette University in Oregon. Bohn was the athletic director at Idaho from 1999 to 2003.
The two interacted at BSU-Idaho golf events in McCall, Hawkins said, but donĀ¹t know each other well.
Wouldn't be the best move for Hawk IMO, there will be much better jobs in the future if BSU keeps winning. Why go to a school that has financial troubles, recruiting scandals, and players raping co-eds on campus?

Hawkins would be a great hire for them. He excels at running a clean, efficient program. But I think he is supposed to be waiting til his kid graduates before looking at moving-on. But CU will never know unless they try.

I feel it would be a decent hire. The guy obviously knows how to win.

Embree or Logan would be a worse hire than KSU made. You don't dump Barnett to bring in a position-coach from UCLA or a high school coach, especially when it cost 3 FREAKING million to do the dumping. Who gives a rat's ass if they are CU-guys if they aren't qualified? A high school coach becomes a position-coach in college, a position-coach becomes a coordinator(unless you are jumping to a low-level team)
The CU AD said he was going for a homerun, Embree or Logan wouldn't be a freaking double. It will be a bigger name than that. Maybe it won't be a Mooch, Kubiak, or O'Brien but it has to be somebody ready to run a noteworth 1A program.
