Raiders bench Tuiasosopo for CollinsAssociated Press
ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders switched quarterbacks again, moving Kerry Collins back into the starting role after backup Marques Tuiasosopo struggled last week against the New York Jets.
Three days after saying his intention was to give Tuiasosopo another start this week against the Cleveland Browns, coach Norv Turner announced Wednesday he changed his mind and was going with Collins.
Turner said he made the decision after talking with owner Al Davis and other members of the organization. But Turner said that ultimately the call was his and he decided to go with the quarterback he felt gave the team the best chance to win.
"I just felt that it was Kerry. It's not a reflection of Tui and his performance, because he knows there are things he could have done better, but we did not play well around him," Turner said. "We owe it to the guys on this team that are giving as much as they're giving, we owe them the best chance to find a way to win a game."
The Raiders (4-9) are finishing a third straight losing season for the first time since Davis came aboard in 1963 to coach and eventually own the team.
After a promising start to the season, Collins struggled as the Raiders fell out of playoff contention. Collins didn't throw an interception until his 141st pass in the fifth game of the season, then didn't give up another pick for 95 more attempts. Seven of his 10 interceptions have come in his last four games, including three in a 31-17 home loss to Denver on Nov. 13.
Collins has been booed frequently at home and the fans had been chanting "Tui! Tui!" at recent games, hoping for a change. But after Tuiasosopo's struggles on the road last week, the Oakland fans will get another dose of Collins on Sunday.
Collins has completed 245 of his 446 passes for 3,118 yards and 16 touchdowns, but has been sacked 32 times for 194 lost yards. His lack of mobility was one of the big reasons Turner made the switch to the more athletic Tuiasosopo.
But Tuiasosopo didn't fare any better against the Jets, getting sacked six times and losing two fumbles in a 26-10 loss. He went 14-for-26 for 124 yards with two interceptions.
Tuiasosopo has started only two games since the Raiders drafted him out of Washington in 2001. He started once in 2003, but hurt his knee during Oakland's third offensive series, and hadn't played in a regular-season game since.
"I think a lot of Tui and I think he's going to be a real good player in this league, and sometimes it's just timing," Turner said.
Nice to see the coach is running his team.
Get this fuck out immediately!

He is definately gone after this season . Maybe Collins too .
But who is gonna replace Turner ?
What sucks is , whoever the next Raider HC is , he isn't gonna be in control of the draft war room . Which might mean another HC gone in two more years .

Great article. I remember that day well because I was hoping they took Keith Bullock.
I know some of the Raidernation ar edown on Gruden, but I tell ya what. The guys 9-4 with a team that, lets be honest, doesnt look all that impressive. He was the best coach we've since Flores and al traded him for 3 draft picks that didnt pan out(jurys still out on Asomugha.

Not to mention it was Gruden that destroyed the Raiders and AL in the Super Bowl and its been all downhill since.

Gary Barnett's available too
On second thought, he'd probably have to give back that $3 million so he's probably not available after all

Hey, Norm should be rewarded for his success, not punished.
Nice going Turner, you fuck. How fucking retarded did you have to be to not know Tui was going to suck balls even worse? Thanks for fucking up my shitter, you actually fit right into The Duhs.
Tui Tui Tui
Collins may not be a Manning, but he has managed to get to The NFC Championship twice and Superbowl once in two different systems. Not to mention that he could probably drink any Raiduh under the table. He should have been better with a RB like Jordan and WR like Moss and Porter. I'm not sure how much of this is Collins' fault but fuck em all anyway.

As intriguing as that choice would be , I can't see Martz and Davis co-existing . Martz is gonna want total control his next job , and no way is he gonna get it in Oakland . The soap opera between he , Charly Armey , and John Shaw in STL rivals anything Aaron Spelling can produce .
*edit*
Besides , you don't want Martz in total control of the draft war room . Two picks he made that didn't make sense :
Eric Crouch : drafted as a WR/whatever Martz could think of .
Steve Bellesari : drafted to play Safety ( because he played that position in High School ) .

That's another intriguing choice .
Reunite him with Moss .
But still , the ego factor is involved .
Geez , it's hard to choose with Davis in the equation .
Billick makes more sense than Martz though .

My guess is some no name coordinator who will do whatever Al says because he's so grateful to have a head coaching gig.

I have a sick feeling Jim Fassel gets the job. He did go to the SB with Carrie as his QB.

You should be so lucky as to see Fassel on the sidelines. Unless Al turns a new leaf, I can't see a single established coach wanting to go to the Raiders.

Somehow I get the feeling that it wasn't Turner's decision to start Collins this next game .
I was listening to Brian Cox on the radio yesterday , and he was talking about when he was playing in one of those " Japan Bowls " against the Raiders ( or some sort of exhibition ) , and when the Raiders were going through thier practice drills , it was Davis who would tell the players to stop running or practicing , not the coaching staff . The coaches didn't interfere , or dare to .
At least you have an owner who cares . My teams owner could give a shit less about the players .

I'd be interested to check those sources:
I believe a lot of things in that articel but not all of them.
I remember on the Trolls.com the argument at the time was Janorapeski vs. Pennington nothing was mentioned of Alexander.
Either way it's celar that Alice Davis ran the only coach he had hired in the last decade that was worth a shit.
But you got Tyler Brayton right Faiderfan?
And indirectly a broken down Randy Moss correct?
Meanwhile your team flounders and no coach with any ounce of self respect will even give you a look.
Enjoy the impending Jim Fassel years bitches
War 16-5.

Look for Mr. Davis to give his good friend Jimmy Johnson the opportunity of a lifetime - a chance to coach the Oakland Raiders.

Sorry, I've been out of town all week.
Oakland will blow with any QB taking snaps right now.
Worst 'dud 0-line I can ever remember watching.
Yeah, those kick-ass farm boys Gallery and Grove have worked out just SPLENDIDLY.
Is Tony Mandarich available somewhere on a waiver wire SOMEWHERE...?
Whatever.......
Norv/Al/....or whoevah-t'-fck is adjusting the depth chart ought to pull a Billy Martin and have playahs pull their positions for this Sunday's game out of a hat.
C- LaMont
LG- Jano
RG- Deceased Russell
LT- Tui
RT- Shane
TE- Sims
QB- Moss
etc, etc....
Fuck it all.

I didn't forget ya, Paul.
I asked for you and Scott to drop me your addresses in one of the threads a week or so ago.
Scott gave me his right away and I got his winnings off to him.
You apparently missed my post in that thread.
I was fixin' to drop you a PM any day now, asking for your address, Paul.
So while we're on the subject here, get me your address and maybe I can make your mantle too.
