If he really is physically well enough to coach...imagine his creativity with the Lions offensive weapons? He's a flaky head coach but a great offensive mind. The last thing I want is another coach in Detroit with health problems...he'd be a good candidate if he's able to deal with the stress of the job.

I dunno , the Rams have a LOT of drama in that power struggle between Martz , Armey , and Shaw .

Martz is gonna want total control where he goes , and that means the draft war room .

And Raiderfan should not want him in there , for you're own good .

DET sounds like a good fit , but how fast are they on offense ? Martz's scheme is predicated on speed .

They do play in a dome , and that's where Martz's offense cooks .

the Lynns are NOT fast enough to compensate for their shitty O-Line NOW.

Martz nor his EGO can't fix that.

Millen and HIS EGO have both failed to address the O-Line.

Martz is not a good fit for the Lynns...'cuz there is no Core. (plus EGO & EGO does not mix. ~sin, Jerrah and Jimmah.)

if anyone is SMART? They'll hire Russ Grimm and they'll let him build a team up from "the INSIDE out."

Martz anywhere--->no.....unless the hiring Team also gets T.O. during the offseason.

match made in Heavenhaus.

Norv makes my dick limp, but the thought of Martz on 'our' sideline makes it disappear.

No thanks.

That's actually a good idea. Who better than someone who's got
"Assistant to Bill Parcells" on his resume'?
The fact that it seems like a sensibile fit is why it probably won't happen.

Let Martz follow Vermeil, take the trip west on I-70, and coach another team
with talent on offense, but can't stop anyone on defense. :P

....ummmm....RAIDERFan got to see Maurice Carthon upclose and personal yesterday. Carthon is the OC for the BROWNS.

i'm sure that THEY were Real Impressed by the BROWNS Offensive prowess.

i'll stick to my Russ Grimm comment above.

If Jimmy Johnson doesnt take the Detroit CEO job, then its him.

If he does, then its a fucking toss up. Al could go retread again, or give another young guy a shot.

Its a no-brainer:

Find a decent O-Coord.

Retain Rob Ryan as D-coord. At least his under-manned squad showed a little improvement this year.

Does Raiduh fan ever stop sucking Gannon's dick? Holy ass felchers, Batman. Dude has zero coaching experience, and you want to toss him the keys because why exactly? Oh yeah, he got you to a Super Bowl.

And stop tossing out Jimmy Johnson's name for every fucking head coach opening. Dude will NEVER coach again. Bank on it. His gig on FOX let's him work a minimal amount of hours, stay around football, and bank major green. He sure as fuck ain't gonna drop that to go work for Al.

Mo Carthon will make a fine head coach someday. As soon as he get's away from the abortion that is the Browns.

Maybe you could find another Parcells assistant. Maybe Sean Payton. Oh wait, he already fucked you guys in the ass once before. Besides. He's the heir apparent to the Cowboys gig.

Gannon's never coached AT ALL, let alone head coach.

He appears to have the fire, smarts, and discipline required to be an NFL head guy.

It's reasonable to think that he might one day have a head coaching gig.

I'm not sure Oakland, right now, is the place for him to start.

I'd prefer to see him get some 'seasoning' as a QB coach, then perhaps as an O-coordinator.

Also, I think he's not yet far enough removed from his days as Oakland QB, and being in the trenches with a good number of the fellas currently on the team, to jump in all of a sudden as HEAD COACH RICH GANNON.

Rich would carry with him a bit of baggage, and I'm not sure that some of the guys wouldn't respond with some 'negativity' toward him.

Well, one thing's for sure, he wouldn't hesitate to get up in some grilles, and THAT would be a positive, for sure.

Btw, I agree with Hh on JJ. I don't see him leaving FOX, and if he did, he sure as hell wouldn't leave to go coach 'under' Al Davis.

I don't see it.

Enough with the re-tread of coaches. Time to start hiring fresh. This guy has had a few interviews and would be a nice candidate-

I read somewhere that Gannon called Alex Smith , and talked to him about not to let the " small hands " press bother him , because the press said the same thing about him .

I wouldn't mind Gannon coaching Smith . That is , if Montana or Young don't offer first (*wishing*) .

Yup. If the Lions are going to have a QB in the pocket long enough for all the receivers to finish their timing routes, you'll need an o-line. Rams had o-line issues last year and it took 5 years off Marc Bulger's life.

Martz is a paranoid freak. He surrounded himself with yes-man regardless of their abilities (Larry Marmie). He'll close off practices thinking the invisible monkey men are trying to infiltrate his passing schemes.

He also can't draft worth two shits. Watching him get loser after loser has reminded the 314 what life was like with bow-tie boy's football Cardinals.

Martz needs to be the best paid ofensive coordinator somewhere. He did well when Lovie handled the defense here in the 314. Maybe that success had more to do with Lovie than Martz's pretty offense.

NEIL HAYES: TIMES COLUMNIST No silver lining, just a bleak Raiders forecast:Lingering coaching vacancy offers little hope that things will change

THE RAIDERS PLAN TO interview Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt after Super Bowl XL, and nobody who has watched the Steelers offense execute during the team's Super Bowl run can fault that logic.
Meantime, Mike Martz interviewed Thursday. Al Davis reportedly chatted with Jim Fassel via telephone. Ex-Green Bay Packers coach Mike Sherman also can expect to receive a phone call, if he hasn't already.
But what happens if these candidates are offered the job, and instead of accepting it they strike the Heisman pose? It's a real possibility.
Whisenhunt could be the Next Hot Candidate next year regardless of whether the Steelers win the Super Bowl. Fassel has one more shot left as an NFL head coach. After watching what happened to Norv Turner, who will never get another chance after going 9-23 in Oakland, does he want to use his last bullet in Oakland, where he isn't even able to pick his own staff?
Sherman's .594 winning percentage will land him another job eventually.
Martz, meanwhile, is reportedly weighing whether to accept the position as offensive coordinator of the wobegone Detroit Lions rather than wait around for Davis.
If there's an upside to the search's glacial pace, it's that it allows time to ponder how a different landscape might look if Davis had offered Jon Gruden a contract extension as he walked off the field following the Raiders' 16-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship game after the 2000 season.
Davis claims to have offered Gruden a three-year contract for $9.5 million, to which Gruden's agent, Bob LaMonte, responded: too little, too late. Maybe the breaking point came earlier, when Davis chose kicker Sebastian Janikowski and Derrick Gibson in the first rounds of the 2000 and 2001 drafts, when Gruden wanted running back Shaun Alexander and tight end Todd Heap.
Regardless, Davis should have offered Gruden anything and everything to keep him -- autonomy, more money ... whatever it took.
Not only would Davis have seen a return on his investment, but his franchise would be one of the league's most stable, instead of most volatile, and if these NFL playoffs have taught us anything, it's that stability is key.
Three of the four coaches on the sidelines during the AFC and NFC championship games had been with their teams at least seven years. Gruden would have just finished his eighth season in Oakland, which would have made him the fourth-longest tenured coach in the league behind Pittsburgh's Bill Cowher, Denver's Mike Shanahan and Tennessee's Jeff Fisher.
He and (former Raiders executive) Bruce Allen would be overseeing the team's inevitable rebuilding. You could bet that they would be further along in that process had Gruden stuck around. Not only was he popular with fans but with players. He was instrumental in recruiting classy, team-oriented veterans.
More important, the organization's future wouldn't seem so tenuous. Right now, the Raiders have a 76-year-old owner whose team has posted a regular season record of 131-141 since winning their last Super Bowl after the 1983 season if you exclude the 1998-2002 regular seasons, when Gruden and his hand-picked assistant and successor, Bill Callahan, went 49-31.
As it now stands, the team's long-term future is as tenuous as its short-term future. Amy Trask runs the business operation. Will she take over the football operation if Davis is no longer able? Has senior personnel executive Mike Lombardi been groomed for that job since Allen departed to join Gruden in Tampa?
Davis planned to use the draft picks he received from the Buccaneers as compensation for Gruden to rebuild what had become an aging roster, but the draft picks have been spent and there's little to show for them.
Now his organization is facing its most critical juncture.
If Davis gets desperate and ends up elevating quarterbacks coach John Shoop, who was run out of Chicago, a city that embraces bad offense, or makes some other uninspired choice, his franchise will continue to wither on the vine.
Last year's attendance totals proved once again that people won't pay top dollar to watch a poorly coached team play uninspired football.
Defeatism has swept through the Raider Nation after three straight disastrous seasons. The fans desperately need a ray of hope, and Davis has given no indication in his action or words that real change is in the offing.
Meanwhile, the search continues with Rick Neuheisel chiming in from the Senior Bowl. "I'm happy where I am," he said. Wait a minute. Just where is Neuheisel exactly? Oh yeah, he's the quarterbacks coach in Baltimore, which means he'd rather tutor Kyle Boller than entertain an offer from the Raiders.
This coaching search has the potential for disaster. Morale at team headquarters has plummeted. Davis needs a bold stroke now more than at any other point in his career, because confidence in his leadership is at an all-time low.
Given what we have witnessed the past three seasons and how this coaching search has gone thus far, how could it not be?

Tough words.

Addressed two glaring weaknesses from two years ago by signing Lamont Jordan and Burgess (NFL sack leader).

Picked off Minnesota in the Randy Moss trade.

Signed Kerry Collins as a back up to Rich Gannon (don't laugh). Collins played like crap, but it wasn't entirely his fault(play calling, blocking) and Tui isn't the answer.

fired Norv Turner.

for starters.

Jury's still out on that one.......Moss is plagued with "nagging" injuries, and still doesn't have anybody to throw it to him

Yet he still led the Raider in TD receptions, and if healthy, can still be very productive.

I would after looking at the quarterbacking around the league. If the Raiders didn't have Collins as a back-up to Gannon, they might have been stuck with Tommy Maddox or Vinnie Testaverde.

fixing a fuckup that you created doesn't constitute a positive....
and if he would have listened to many talking heads in the sports media he would have gave "a good guy the additional year he deserves." He admitted a mistake and moved on, a positive in my book.

Everybody seems to have forgotten 3 charger faggots landing on Moss when he tried to grab a duck thrown by that cunt carrie collins. He was tapping ASS on the league up to that point.

Chargerfan will be paying for that in the form of assbeatings from my fucking fists this year, by the way.
