Glaus to the Jays

Reportedly, for Orlando Hudson and Miguel Batista.
Apparently, given Glaus's health last season, the deal all hinges on him passing a phsical on Monday.
I'd hate to see the Jays give up the best defensive 2nd baseman in the AL.. but if they were going to trade him, at least it would be out of the league.
There's the big bat they were looking for though.

The Jays are making waves in the AL East. They're safely in the third position in the division and you never know if the Sox may slide a little if their pitching lets them down. The Yankees' lineup and Rivera alone should get them the division...it did last year. If they get anything out of their rotation, they'll win the East easily.

The Yankees have another version of murderers row again this year but to say that they'll win the division easily though.. I wouldn't say that. The Yankees can hit but aside from Rivera their pitching is suspect though.
Is Johnston done? Who knows but at the age of 42 he's not far off. Mussina's going to get you double figures in wins and after that you're looking at a wing and a prayer if you're counting on Small, a guy that's pitched all of 294 innings over a 12 year major league career.
And the Jays aren't done yet either. By adding Glaus, (assuming he's the everyday 3rd baseman) they have to move one if not two other players now. Overbay is a lock at first base, with Aaron Hill scheduled to replace Hudson at second base and Russ Adams to remain at shortstop. That leaves Corey Koskie, Shea Hillenbrand and Eric Hinske to fight it out for the DH spot.
Hillenbrand's going to bring back something of value, hopefully an outfielder with power.. Hinske won't though but his contract won't be easy to unload so he's probably a high priced bench/role player.
Which leaves Coskie as the DH.

Toronto should be able to score plenty of runs with the addition of Glaus and Overbay to an already solid lineup. Glaus struck out 145 times...6th most in the Majors last year and his career average is only .253. The White Sox thrived by playing station-to-station baseball...loading your team up with big boppers doesn't guarantee success. You need some good situational hitting and not rely on 3-run homers. Overbay should provide a .280-.290 average and you're going to want Hillenbrand to repeat what he did last year. They do have a nice balance of hitters from both sides of the plate. If you can keep both Burnett and Halladay healthy for the entire season, they'll hang in there but they won't win without them. The pieces are there for them to make a leap into the AL elite...just need their acquisitions to come through for them. I wouldn't put them any higher than 5th in the AL right now...behind Chicago, New York, Cleveland and Anaheim. They're in a group with Boston, Oakland and Texas who should battle Cleveland for the Wild Card.
