[sad]MNF on ABC ..... turn out the lights[/sad]
Moments or memories...?
A few of mine:
Joe Theismann leg *snap*, 1985
Howard Cosell's "look at that little monkey go," reference to Alvin Garret during a 1983 Monday night game
Down 24-0 at halftime on Sept. 26, 1988, Shanahan and the Raiders came back for a 30-27 overtime win that remains tied as the biggest comeback in Raiders history
others?
Bo Jackson crushing Boz and the Seachickens.
Dan Marino's fake spike.
Dennis Miller (infamous)
Drunken, horny Joe Namath (edit: nix....that was SNF, still funny but out of place)
Many epic Giants/Crackwagon games. The real LT's jersey retirement.
Love that Hank Williams jr. song.

Just a few off the top of my head...
The Fish ruining the Bears perfect season.
Tony Dorsett ripping off a 99 yard TD run against the Vikes.
The Pack and the Broncos playing in a blizzard.
The Joe Namath/Orenthal experiment. Listening to those two argue was sometimes better than the games.
The time that one of Brett Favre's family members died and he threw for 400 yards while John Madden cried in the booth.

The Oilers beating Pittsburgh in the Astrodome in '79 or '80, following a controversial onside kick that sealed it. Maniacs with Luv ya Blue placards and pom-poms all over the stadium going nuts.
Maimi shredding the vaunted Bears' defense and me winning $20 against a bandwaggoning Bears' fan friend.

Yep. I remember that game. Everybody thought Cosell was racist because of that comment. So did I. I was terribly wrong along with everyone else.poptart wrote:Howard Cosell's "look at that little monkey go," reference to Alvin Garret during a 1983 Monday night game.

Anyone who watched the Monday Night Football season opener on Sept. 5, 1994 between the Los Angeles Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park remembers. 49ers linebacker Ken Norton Jr. tackled McCallum and in the pileup McCallum dislocated his knee, tearing three ligaments, ripping his calf and hamstring muscles from the bone, and incurring nerve and artery damage.

Luv Ya Blue, Kevin Gilbride vs. Buddy Ryan slap fest, Earl Mother fuggin' Campbell shredding the Fish, Run 'n' Shoot and the 4-6 defense, seeing my mother cry when they announced Lennon had been killed as my pops and I were setting up the Christmas tree during MNF...and of course the "Snap".
Al and Frank ARE Monday Night Football to me as I was too young to remember many Howard C. broadcasts. This Madden crap is the suck hardcore.

[sad] it's really not all that worthy of a tissue, you sentimental myopian. There will still be a MNF. Unless you don't have ESPN. [/sad].

Blah, blah, blah, with the walk down memory lane.
Cant talk about the good with out mentioning all the turd games, with whatever the MNF crew was, blabbering just to hear themselves speak, to kill time. Take the game tonight for example. :x
I welcome the change. Bring it on.

for me, the BROWNS got to host a game vs. the Cowboys...made the Cowfvcks wear their Blue Jerseys and the BROWNS Won 26-7.
other "memorable" BROWNS v. Chargers (1981?)
me and two other buddies would set up bets in the back of our Plane Geo. math class. well, the one guy said--->i'll give you the BROWNS +30 vs. Fouts...
Chargers win by 33.
lesson learned...Never bet on the BROWNS...ever.
unWar George winning 20 bucks from Q and Scum.

Wasn't there a game when the Danderoo was too fucking drunk and sick to to the game?
That was pretty damn memorable.
MNF has always been pretty good, but what I get really teary eyed nostalgic about is when I think back on those heady days when Burnt Hamburger and Phyllis George were doing the NFL on CBS. Now those were the days.

Paul, I agree. Anyone but Madden.
My fave memories are:
1) Cowboys last minute comeback against Giants two years ago. Nice kickoff Gints...
2) Miracle in the Meadowlands. That comeback by Jets was unbaveevable.
Course I'm too young to remember all the Dandy Don, Cosell moments..I'll leave that to the geriatric bunch.

What the hell does this have to do with the Jets? Herm Edwards is their coach now... but other than that, I don't get it.Mississippi Neck wrote:2) Miracle in the Meadowlands. That comeback by Jets was unbaveevable.
I seriously doubt that was on a Monday or at night either.
Alcoa presents... Fantastic Finishes.

From Jets Website:
2000 Monday Night Miracle
The Jets staged their fourth comeback victory of the season and the most incredible in the franchiseÕs 41 seasons as they rallied from a 30-7 fourth quarter deficit to score a 40-37 OT victory over the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football at the Meadowlands. The Jets scored a club-record 30 points in the fourth quarter en route to the biggest comeback in team history and only a point shy of NFL mark held by Oakland (twice) and Atlanta. (Oct. 23).

I dont understand why so many people dislike Madden. He knows the game better than anyone else and he adds good insight to the game. yeah, the guy has is own schtick, but so does every other announcer. I think him and Michaels make the best MNF crew in a decade. I cant stand Thiesman, or cuntburger, Simms or Baldinger.

I don't need some lamed assed link to know that THE Miracle In The Meadowlands involved Joe Pisarcik, Herm Edwards, the New York football Giants, and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Nice try Bozo. This is a thread about MNF and our memories of such. On Monday Night Football its known as the Miracle in the Meadowlands.
Go back to saying Belichik's an idiot and that the Pats are cursed..you're doing so much better there.

UCant's correct about the ORIGINAL Miracle at the Meadowlands, but yeah, it was not a Monday nighter. I don't think he's asserting that it was, but....anyway.....it WAS an absolute stunner.
Nov. 19, 1978, Eagles at Giants.
Waning seconds, Giants up 17-12, Giant QB Pisarcik was supposed to simply take the last snap of the game, take a knee, game OVER.
But....for some inexplicable reason he turned and tried to hand the ball off to a back, who was in no way looking to take a hand-off, and Pisarcik fumbled.
H. Edwards swooped in, picked up the fumble and took it to the house for a TRULY miraculous Eagle victory.
One of the most stunning plays in NFL history.

Remember that time in '86 when Mike Quick made The Immaculate Reception on MNF against the Rams? Me too.
Remember that time when Deion Sanders made The Catch against the Niners on MNF in '97? Me too.
Remember that time when in '03 when Tom Brady brought the Patriots back against the Fish with The Drive on MNF? Me too.
RACK our MNF memories.

That was so very 'Giant' of them. NY is maddening how they find ways to lose sometimes. 2003 and 2004 were horrific years. Lucky I have an enclosed shower with the door an all......no curtains, or rods.Mississippi Neck wrote:
