All of you Michigan fans can kiss my... Nice game though!

When this game was first announced, there were comments like this from Michigan fans and others:

But kicking the shit out of Nebraska should be fun.
this:
Van wrote:It's Bill Callahan. If Michigan doesn't win by at least twenty four I'll consider it a major upset.

Ken wrote:I'm with Van on this one. I'd be suprised if scUM didn't invent a new play where they shove the ball up the ass of an NU defender and carry him into the endzone for a TD.
scUM by a lot.

Oh and then there were the predictions:

no one makes fun of lloyd anymore. or they do, but it won't matter much.
So while the game wasn't a blowout by any stretch of the imagination, I would have to think that I would be feeling good about an 11-point lead with about 8:30 to go (give or take). I'm sure if you guys were in the same room as me, you'd be laughing your asses off because I was freaking out. But as they say, he who laughs last, laughs best because even though I'm sure you could argue either way about Henne's fumble (it was) or Bowman's pass interference on that last 4th down play (it wasn't) or the lack of penalities on that final play (it should have but on both sides considering that both teams were on the field).
A sig bet was never finalized (although two MU guys said they were in) so don't worry about that. I scoffed at their suggestion for displaying Michigan as the real 1997 national champion because like anything Michigan, their think inflated heads think the college football world rotates around them (and it does considering how many times I see them on TV) and they can't fathom anybody giving them a challenge. They beat WSU in 97 by only 6, but we just had an article about that controversy in our local paper here and 5 out of 6 media writers all picked Michigan to win and some by double digits. That's how out of whack the Michigan psyche is. You guys couldn't fathom a Nebraska team then presenting a challenge and you couldn't fathom a Nebraska team now presenting a challenge.
I'll be the first to admit that I don't know how Nebraska managed to win this game. By all rights, Michigan had Nebraska on the ropes. I thought it was over. My only hope was they keep it close to make it respectable. Then Michigan collapsed and Nebraska squeezed one out. Michigan looks more talented, but something didn't click for them. I'm not sure if it was lethargy, lack of respect for their opponent, or what.
Call me a poor winner, but after having to turn down the sound on the TV several times from Herbie giving Chad Henne an audio BJ many times during the night, after Michigan fans anger then and now for 97 (just let it go already!) and after the lack of respect for Nebraska's chances tonight, I think I'm a little justified.
I don't know who you have coming back, but you guys SHOULD be good next year. It was a nice game and one that Michigan should have won had they kept coming after Zac Taylor all game (how do they inexplicably stop doing that after beating him up?).

I am still shocked. Michigan needs to learn how to close games.

Great win.
I like how Meechegin fan is playing like they really never gave a fuck as they were watching the game in the other thread. Fuck that, you care, your down and you will get back up in a year or two.
Take it from me its going to suck but we all have to take our lumps some times...
Rack the Huskers, cant wait till next year for once...

for the record, i didn't feel good at all. michigan has a tendency to put themselves in a position to win - sometimes quite handily - with aggressive playcalling and then thinks it a good idea to cruise to the finish with a gluttony of three-yard off-tackles or three-man rushes. i guess fine if yr up two scores, but once someone - player, coach, fan - thinks, "oh shit," no one on our coaching staff has the ability to turn it around. i thought you had it worse with callahan (hmmm... run, we score; pass, we're fucked...I'LL PASS!), but herrmann has a way of reminding you he's still around. i should've felt good that nebraska most likely had to pass their way into the game, but then herrmann must've decided the qb pressure was making his players tired or something.
Michigan looks more talented, but something didn't click for them. I'm not sure if it was lethargy, lack of respect for their opponent, or what.
i don't think lethargy or lack of respect had anything to do with it. i think it was shit coaching. it appears our formation-based play calling continues to catch teams off guard.. oh yeah, that fumble didn't help. guess you created a break there.
You guys couldn't fathom a Nebraska team then presenting a challenge and you couldn't fathom a Nebraska team now presenting a challenge.
i don't think there's any doubt of who would win between 97 umich and nebraska: usc. i think that game would've gone either way, so i'm not going to argue about whether you'd present a challenge then. but now: you lost to iowa state and mizzou; you have a shite coach; and even if he's not so bad, yr still in the midst of an offensive transformation. umich has had philisophical continuity for the last 4523 years and could've just as easily won all the games they lost (though lost a lot of the games they won). if we played the game again, i'd still think it ours to lose, which we prolly would..
so anyhow, propers on yr win. i def think that last play was pass interference, but that's our own fault for putting ourselves at the mercy of the officials, especially when you already know how shite they are. manningham should've caught that third down pass and given us at least three extra chances to score. and we could've still won had ecker, i don't know, gave it to breaston? lateraled instead of running out of bounds? i obviously wanted him to score so we could win, but i was also curious to see how the refs would handle it if he did. damn they were terrible. we should review piss-poor calls:
-blatant personal foul on breaston's first kick return
-quite a few obvious holds i saw nebraska commit
-the p.i.
-spotting the ball at the end of the game
-the personal foul on nebraska for lighting breaston up on that punt return (which ultimately played a big part in a td drive)
-the nebraska int. how the ef was replay needed to get that call right?
-the last play. we can say both teams on blah blah blah, but the officials were more
walking off the field than
officiating a college fb game.
-all the calls nebraska had go against them. i'm obviously more concerned with the ones that went against us.
but yeah, again: congrats on the win.

It was obviously one of the worst-called games ever, and if it had been better-called Mich may well have won. Having to burn TO's to get an obviously needed replay is ridiculous. We totally got away with a PI on that 4th down. But I was proud of the way our boys fought back and I'll take the W.
As so often happens to turnover battler turned out to be key.
Lloyd's hotseat has to be on fire now. I can't say I wouldn't be taking a strong look at Butch Davis now.

Seriously...I always love watching Coaches/Players/Fans of the losing team melt and point at the officials.
MClub, you mentioned the calls against Nebraska. Good calls, bad calls, no calls. They go both ways. Sometimes one team has a few more than the other. So what? The refs weren't biased. Over time, I can almost guarantee you Michigan has benefited more from the refs than they have been screwed. Look at your all time win loss record.

the bad calls went both ways in the game regardless of the result. As in the UM/PSU game, my take is not that the officials were looking for a specific result, just that they were embarassingly inept in that game and this one.
I guess you'll have that, though...but the replay situation is something that they need to look at.

i'm not blaming the officials for the loss:

my point isn't that a bad call or two cost us the game, or even that the officiating was biased; my point is that those officials shouldn't be officials. this thread's been up three hours now and even lefty has yet to ride in on white horse and save those wankers from ridicule.
i was merely starting an inventory of the piss poor calls and invited any nu fans to add some i missed. you'll notice the addition of nebraska's int, where there was more space between the players and official than there was between the db's foot and the endline.

True...they did pull out the Iowa, Michigan State and Penn State games but they blew that Minnesota game or it should've at least went to OT. I don't know if it's inexperience, bad leadership by seniors or bad coaching but great teams don't do that. This was clearly not a great Michigan team this year.

The refs were horrible. Nebraska fumbled on their first scoring drive, the play was never reviewed. Their first score wouldn't have happened, UM would have had excellent field position, the outcome could have very easily been different.
^^^
All that being said, you go to a shit bowl, you get shit officials. Fucking Sun Belt refs wtf!!! Nebraska deserved the win. They did a better job of in-game adjustments than UM did. They took advantage of UM's passive 4th quarter style and caused some timely to's. This will be good for Nebraska. They had more to gain than Michigan did, and I hope for the classy Nebraska fans that I know, that they've turned the corner.

Really, their coming at Taylor all night was a direct result in NU winning.
Ask Cory Ross what he was seeing with linemen not respecting gap responsibility. D-ends were no were to be found on quick pitches to the perimeter. Their technic was up field the whole second half. Result = 161 yards of daylight.
I was screaming at Callahan for NOT running more as it was obvious UM was keying on Zac.

Steve; My GOD, dude.
Rivas = miss!
FUMB -- BULLLL!!!!! (Henne - Avant)
Late hits = 15 yds.
ALLLLLLL kinds of things with NOTHING to do with refs!
Also, the NU runner was deamed down. Dead ball.
No reviews are allowed!

Try living in the same state with that shit. It's unbelievable how that school has seemed to brainwash our media. TV AND radio!

C'ept for that HUGE 3rd & 4 late at UM's 15, that Zac was sitting there, plenty of time; eyeballing the whole field, and tossed a strike to the endzone. And that was WITH the short field. A much better time to pressure the passer AND bump the recievers. Herman's an idiot.
UM was in zone coverage!(?) You must be joking, Cornman. The "SOFT" defense late, is what hurt um most.

True, but most of the 3rd qtr. and much of the 4th it was man-up and bring the house.

Actually NU beat ISU (the Hawkeye slayer) - 27-20. (You can substitue Kansas in there if you wish.

The card I can joyfully play on Hawkeye fan all off season is, "we beat 2 teams that beat you."
