Yeah, this is Jay, not nolesy. If you are incorporating UBB code for the pic, might as well for the text.

You have to give a lot of credit to Oklahoma for turning a rocky start (2-3 in their first 5 games) into a pretty successful season (7-4 regular season and a bowl victory).

Most of the chatter on the Oregon Board revolves around Bellotti's use of 2 quarterbacks. The prevailing complaint is that neither guy had a chance to get into a groove.

I tend to believe that random swapping of quarterbacks for no apparent reason disrupts continuity and is usually ineffective.

It was pretty obvious that the Ducks miss Kellen Clemens--makes me wonder just a little about their prospects for next season.

Congrats Sooners, indeed.

Did anybody else see the Tech game happening all over again...?

From the time OU drove down the field and then settled for 3, I still thought we'd win the game... but when we had a chance to convert a 3rd, and I believe, 8 with a few mintues left, I looked at the people gathered to watch the game with me and I said, "we're not going to convert this."

We didn't. Oregon gets the ball back.

I felt like we weren't getting the benefit of the doubt... AGAIN... as far as officiating goes, but this time, it wasn't cruical enough for us to not be able to overcome it. (And the winner for the most confusing sentence is...) And I felt like Oregon had a legitmate chance to pull a Tech on us... Their defensive line was impregnable (sin, Iron Mike) and their secondary was really ball-hawking Bomar's crippled "I'll throw it while I'm going down" ducks...

BUT

OU's defensive line kept Oregon's QB's on the move all night long, resulting in a lot of missed throws that they would normally make. Getting Birdine back for this game was freaking HUGE for us... In addition, while our tackling was quite sub-par for the evening, our players (for once) always seemed to be where they needed to be to either make, or at least slow down, the play.

Overall, it was a defensive battle, and, between these two teams, that's going to favor OU, who came out on top.

It was fun to watch, than if for no other reason than, at least in the first half, that was one of the better battles between DLines that I've ever seen. The DLines of both teams showed up ready to MFing get it on, and they did. OU just had a little more grind to them in the second half, which ultimately led to their win.

I don't think OU's offensive front was prepared to get their ass handed to them. They did, courtesy of Mr Ngata. But OU decided that Oregon wasn't the only team in the stadium with a bunch of fucking studs on the DLine. Some fools were flat getting beat up in the trenches on both sides. I doubt any of the QBs for either side are feeling any too chipper today. Even the players that has success took a beating.

If Oregon's center Enoka Lucas would have actually showed up sober and ready to play, things might (and probably would have been) quite different, but he didn't....so all that's left to do is RACK the Sooners and their classy fans. If Oregon and the PAC took any victory from that game, it was merely showing the Big12 mouths that the PAC can get down and dirty in the trenches when circumstances dictate, and anybody who still throws around allegations of the "soft conference" is an idiot. OU's OLine got manhandled for about 75% or more of the game. Unfortunately, Oregon's OLine got manhandled for about 95% of the game, and that accounted for the 3 point difference.

Great DLine play in this game. Most of those defensive BADASSES up front for OU are seniors though, aren't they? If not, I'd be VERY afraid if I were a Big 12, non-Sooner guy.

Dvorcek and possibly Ah You (can't remmeber if he is junior or a senior) are the only seniors on the line. Everyone else is back next year along with Dotson who was inelgible this season. You can also throw Patterson who has been tearing up the JUCOs in as well.

no offense, but OU's Oline getting whipped is not a new thing this year. they've been juggling players all year--with only marginal success.

Dins, how do you know Lucas was playing while shitfaced? That seems like a rather remarkable accusation to make about the guy...

Also, I'm not sure about how much of OU's defensive prowess in this game was their own doing vs how much of it was Oregon's offensive ineptness. That same badass OU defensive front got completely shredded by a healthy UCLA squad (as well as Texas) so I would've liked to've seen how Oregon might've fared with their starting QB in there rather than a fucking Leaf running things in the closing minutes after already watching Dixon abort the first half....

Ayodele was a senior too i think. Ah You may have another year. Thibidoux got a hardship...so he's back. patterson is apparently a low percentage to get into school.

Ok..time to cool down...Now, my thoughts..

The game was a defensive battle, for the most part...or a better description would be offensive ineptness. It was one of the most boring games I've attended in a long time. It just wasn't fun..even when we were ahead, most of the first half it was no fun to watch.

Seemed like a classic case of out-thinking yourself, by Coach Bellotti...Or maybe not thinking at all...I don't know. The Sooner defense played well, BUT, we never tested them deep. We never even tried our strength against their weakness...Just dumb.

The QB rotation really bit us on this one too. We had hoped we were past that, as Dixon had really taken over the starting role down the stretch. But no, Bellotti was stubborn and went with his plan of 2 series for Dixon, 2 for Leaf. Even if you want to use that dumb plan, once Dixon marched us down the field on his 2nd possesion, you have to stick with him until he cools off. Instead we put Leaf in there who was out of sync for 2 straight 3 and outs and when Dixon came back in he was never as sharp as his first couple series.

From a gameplan, it seemed way too similar to the strategy we tried to use at Oklahoma last year. I didn't like it.

Make no mistake about it. This was not Cal, last year, showing up to their bowl game dissapointed. We just got beat. Our players played hard. We were just out-coached.

I don't, but dude didn't suck that badly all season, so abuse of the revelry, aka "Bowlitis" is the only plausable explaination. Talking to my fellow Duck fans this morning/last night, it seems to be universally accepted that if Lucas shows up and does something besides pile up penalties and botch snaps and have his guy beat him on every single play, then Oregon wins this one, going away. Dude was playing sooo badly, that the smart coaching of OU just sent a LB right behind Lcas' man, and every U of O snap turned into a jailbreak.

I agree with all of Jayduck's assessment, except the "boring" part. But then again, I love watching a trech warfare battle (yes, a PAC 10 fan just said that).

And Dvoracek is a bad, BAD man. Look forward to seeing him play on sundays. If some crappyass NFL team blew some pics on him and Ngata, they'd be set up front for years to come (or until Ngata's gimpy sticks end his career). Anyone catch that play where the OU RB (not sure which one) got around the end, broke a bunch of tackles, and on the edge of the screen you could see Haloti (I don't care what they list him at, dude is pushing 380) running him down from behind? I can only imagine the devastation if dude's legs actually worked. There's some violation of the laws of physics there, when a guy that large can move that fast...scary. Not that Dvoracek wasn't getting to defensive positons that he had no business getting to, either.

OU is going to fuck some folks up if they return most of that defensive front. Enjoy your one year at the top, Texas.

Well done, Jay. I agree with your assesment. I was shocked (but thrilled) when Leaf went in in the first half. Dixon is clearly the better QB, at least as of right now.

This was an evenly-matched contest. If Clemmons had been healthy, Oregon may have won. But the Sooners also had injuries and suspensions to their best receiver and best cornerback. If OU and UO played 10 times on a neutral field, the final record would probably be 5-5.

Rack the Ducks and Jay for being a great sport. Looking forward to the roadie to Eugene.

P.S. That sig looks good on you! :D

The idea took a back seat in my mind, but I'm going to try and score up some tix to that one, although bigtime games at Autzen sell out with a quickness. If gameday is before school starts(Sept 16, I think school starts by then, but maybe Jay knows for sure), unfortunately for you, Eugene can resemble a ghost town. Getting in the last of the outdoor persuits before life gets serious again. I remember a couplefew years back when the season opened with Wisconsin, and the fans who made the rody's reaction was "Is Eugene always this quiet?"(Answer being "No, only in the week or two before school starts.") Cool thing about Ducksfan, they'll treat you like a million bucks, right up until the game starts...don't try this in Corvallis. Or Seattle. You'll have some fun, no doubt, and the entire state of Oregon will be honored by your presence, and be flattered that you made it out. Then make fun of you afterwards because your team lost.

I have no doubt about that. Along with Bama Fan, Husker Fan, and aTm Fan, Duck Fan is one of the classiest in the country.

One of these years, I'd love to make that roady. I've heard absolutely nothing but the highest praise for Bama fan.

I'd like to go to Lincoln someday. That would be more like a pilgrimage to Mecca than a CFB game. A buddy of mine's wife's family is from Nebraska, and he visited. Said her uncle paid a boatload of money for some old turf from Husker Stadium to carpet his gameroom, which is a Cornhusker shrine, apparently. Said it makes her uncle a very cool dude round there. I don't think anyone is going to accuse Huskerfan of being a fairweather fan any time soon.

Oh, and you could always check out a Linfield game while you're out West...the all-time dominating powerhouse of NAIA/D3...hehehe.

You start a transvestite at QB and trip over your tampons whilst donning diamondplate kneepads, and think possibly you can be out-lamed???!!

Your team is a disgrace to the conference....

Hibernate til September, cuz your basketball team sucks too....

Its been quite a few years now since I was in school there, but usually Sept 16th is actually before Fall classes start. Oregon is one of the latest starting schools in the country. Classes usually don't start until after the 20th. Or, at least, they didn't when I was there. I doubt that Eugene will be a ghost town with Oklahoma is there, however.

Oregon gets a little funky with the color schemes, sure. I was hoping for Lightning Yellow shirts and pants last night. The diamondplate thing was new for the Civil War, but they toned it down for the bowl.

Bear in mind though, that every new innovation/design in football unis for the last many years comes through Eugene first, then on to the other teams(any other day but today, I would have described them as the "lesser teams"), including the NFL. Thanks, Phil Nike. When the new, modern "tapered-style" unis came along, the Ducks wore them for a full season before any other team anywhere did. The Miami Hurricanes and the Denver Broncos sported them the next season, and then essentially every football team everywhere after that.

So, don't even step to making fun of Oregon's unis...we TELL you fools what's cool...we weren't asking your opinion, we were giving it to you.

Sad day when all I can muster is uni smack and "you paid off our center" smack.
