Since you didn't accept my Death Match bet go ahead and lay it on me. Gimme my sig...
You too, RF.
50 posts, since there probably won't be all that much posting activity on this board now...
Otherwise, if we set it up on a time limit you won't get any mileage out of it.
Congrats to you, Vito, and congrats to Texas. Mack Brown coached a great game and Vince Young was awesome...and smart...and mistake free.
Fantastic effort. You guys are truly worthy champs.
Man, what a way for it to end...

Btw, I guess that one actually did live up to the hype.
Whichever team would've won, they deserved it. Whichever team would've lost, they deserved to lose. Too many mistakes on both sides, too much offensive excellence and both defenses eventually were completely overwhelmed...

Hey Van no hard feelings, I have a lot of respect for USC and what they accomplished, this game came down to who had the ball last

Congrats Vito, what a game.
This rivals if not exceeds the other "greatest championship" OSU vs UM in '02.

I just keep thinking back to the OSU TE who bobbled that TD pass and then the events that took place today.
Bush's attempted lateral
the missed extra point and fieldgoal
USC coming out in the 2nd half and dominating just like Van predicted
And Vince being less than a God but more than a man
This was a team of destiny.

Vito, I was alternately disappointed as hell and proud as hell of both teams, but I was more proud of yours.
You played with more poise, and that's the biggest shocker to me. I'd also say Texas got the better of USC in the coaching department too.
I don't feel Texas really made any particularly poor decisions and they made some really great ones, such as their switch to the hurry up offense in the second quarter, a move which completely changed their offensive effectiveness.
Both defenses were completely overwhelmed but yours did less to beat themselves. USC's decision to go into a Prevent Defense with that twelve point lead and six minutes left in the game was what sent them on the road to their doom.
They needed to make Texas at least burn some clock and some time outs before scoring, rather than laying back and giving up the score in about a minute and half without Texas having to burn a single time out.
Then, the whole game came down to USC's fourth and 1, where they could've salted away the game. Instead, Texas finally held and once they got the ball back with three time outs you know that Texas was going to be the proverbial "last team to have the ball" and they'd get it done...
And, so they did.
So many things to dissect and torture myself over....so many missed opportunities...but fuck it. Great game, a completely even game, and you got the final big play and the championship.
A sincere congratulations to all Longhorn fans, you pulled it off.
Also, you know what, you pulled it off with class. There was no Marcus Vick bullshit, no preening and posing, no excessive late hits and garbage like that.
Your team did it the right way and Vince sure played with class and poise.
It's all yours now. Take care of it.

i thought the way vince young "celebrated" that last td spoke volumes about his character. then again, it's easy to act like you've been there before when you've been there seven effing times.

They should rename the field for him. Dude owns the Rose Bowl.

Way to sack up Van. This is a tough for me. I love USC. I love Texas. Mty hear t is with Texas and I cannot believe that we won. It is truly incredible. USC is nothing but class. Texas played like a team possessed. I only hope that we can play next year the way SC played this year.

Nah, no addition, bro. Just knowing I'm 1-2 in sig bets, as opposed to 0-3 is good enough.
Btw, Did I mention that USC is a freaking MACHINE? Holy fuck. Watching this game reminded me of the Pats vs. the Rams, with St. Louis' "greatest show on turf" as the heavy favorites. Sucks for you, no doubt, as it did for me that year. But I also love the underdog, no matter the style.

I'm just wondering if/when this is really going to hit me and the frustration/anger/insanity will finally ensue over all the missed opportunities.
Right now I'm pretty sanguine over all this. It was a great run, our offense proved it could dominate Texas' D, we so easily coulda won this game and at least we didn't get our asses kicked...
...on those very infrequent occasions when USC loses it's always by the skin of their teeth. Nobody kicks their ass...
...yada yada yada...
Pretty sanguine, somewhat peaceful.
However...
I have a feeling that at some point somewhere down the road the reality of this missed opportunity is finally going to hit me and then I'm going to go completely Mengele...

Guys, I never thought I would ever be this happy when a team other than my team won the National Championship.
I mean hell, UT came to our house and beat us, shouldn't I hate them?
But really, I think I was just so sick and tired of all the SC crap. All the PCarrol is so great, PC is a savior, MLeinart is a Hollywood god, RBush is the best player of all time, USC is the greatest team, USC is the most prolific champion of all time, USC is bigger than CFB itself.
So holy shit, thanks SC, I haven't had this much fun during a championship game since '02.

This is where many new fans to CFB come to maturity...the realization that while your team didn't win everything, they played as hard as they could, and left it all on the field. This is what is honorable about a collegiate gridiron matchup. A one loss season is not an occasion for weeping - it's an opportunity for celebration.
Not too coincidentally, this is also where the "we got screwed" mindset takes a backseat, as well. There are many factors a team or a coach or a fanbase cannot control - at the end of the day, there is honor in a less than perfect finish, and pride in the solid finish itself, regardless of stats or rankings or officiating.

But you won't be able to do anything but point your finger in the mirror and then you'll eventually come to terms with the fact that you weren't the best team when it really mattered.
See ya next year.
True, among so many other things...true.
It's not like that's ever going to provide any solace whatsoever though, is it?

Dusty Garza the guy who started Spursreport.com is a USC grad but grew up in SA and is a big Texas fan. He was also torn.

Mv, you're really not helping any...
:-)
What I'll be pissed at isn't the notion of losing the game, or losing to Texas, or losing to Vince Young. Nope, it's strictly a matter of the opportunity lost, the chance at history gone by the wayside.
Sure, USC will remain a highly formidable program in the foreseable future. That's a given.
Chances at history though, of three peats, those things may never come again. We as USC fans may never again experience a run like this and to see it fall just short in such a slow bleed sort of way is just going to be a tough thing to live with for someone like me who looks more at the big picture than at short term success.
Obviously, USC has had and will again have individual season successes. To what degree, who knows?
The chance at winning three straight AP Titles though, that'll likely never occur again in my lifetime. To know that it was right there for the taking...twelve point lead...dominating offense that can't be stopped...only six minutes left....
...and we let it slip away by going into the prevent defense way too early...
Dunno. It's really going to suck, down the road. It'll bug me forever, like Bill Buckner, Donnie Moore, Bobby Thompson or the '72 Russian Olympic basketball team...
