Football according to Joey Porter

"Play with a chip on your shoulder and be mad," he instructed. "That's when we play our best football. We play our best football when we're ticked off. And we're in a ticked-off mind-set right now, and that's why we're playing the way we're playing.

"Just go out there and play like we know how to play. We know we have a good football team. Everybody's acting like we don't see it. So we're coming in from the back door. It doesn't matter how you get there; we're back in the AFC championship again. You know what I mean?

"They wrote us off, so we're not even supposed to be there. But we're back. Know what I mean? We want to go out there; pretty much they'll count us out again, but we like our chances going into Denver.
Before the game against Indy, I thought he was nuts. But he went out and backed up his talk. Hope he's able to cash this check.

I find it increasingly more difficult to cheer against Ward, Polamalu, Porter, and Ben. Houstonians are not supposed to like the Steelers but those guys make it impossible.

Steelers are my pick to click, the rest of the way.

Nobody believed in us. They wrote us off. We believed in ourselves. We're not supposed to be here. We've got a chip on our shoulder. Play 'em one at a time. Dig deep. Suck it up. The game's not played on paper. Control the tempo. Step up. Make plays. Big stage. Git 'er done.......

When Porter tells the world he's gonna bugger Jake Plummer with an Aladdin Oil Lamp we'll have a story.

Git 'er done, Joey.

The whole "We don't get any respect" is so played out. You'd think no team has ever gotten any respect, they came out of nowhere, they all shocked the world, played with a purpose to show all the doubters etc.

*YAWN*

It's hard not to cheer for a team that's coming together at the right time, especially when your team is golfing. The only proplem I have is the TV cameras spending half the day on this....

Well I don't know, I''ll ask EVERYBODY and get back to you.

I do remember before the final weekend all the talk about how the Pats would prefer to finish as the fourth seed so they could face the Jags as opposed to the Steelers. I have certainly heard how the Steelers were very capable of going to the AFC Championship game. I KNOW a lot of folks predicted them to beat the Benagals. But let's be serious here, they were the 6th seed. In fact, they probably got more "respect" than any sixth seed I can remember. The fact that not many (if any) folks predicted them in the AFC Championship game is not a lack of respect.

It's not just Porter, it's every athlete these days. Hell, Tom Brady went off about not getting respect. It is just so tiresome.

Damn, if Taylor garnered a $17,000 fine for spitting on Pittman, how much will Cowher rack up for spitting on Walt Coleman......

Either you are huffing glue and paint thinner or you did not read a newspaper or this board last week. Otherwise you would be familiar with the constant refrain that the Steelers somehow "lucked" into the divisional game because Carson Palmer got hurt.

How about I start you with this thread?

Are you serious? The only person I saw on that thread calling it a lucky win (or cheap win or whatever) was fraudo. Since when is Fraudo the bellweather of rationality. Shine too I suppose. But most of the thread seemed to think that the outcome would not have been different (although I did not read the whole thing).

But you are right, the sixth seeded Steelers have been given absolutely no respect. Everyone should have had them in the AFC game from the start.

Now you are tiresome.

Speaking of respect, if you've checked any of the ESPN SportsNation polls (people like you and I voting), you'll notice the Steelers are dominating all the questions. The whole world is behind the Steelers right now. The Broncos are just the team those great Steelers happen to be playing at the moment.

Perfect.

They are now. I guess that's what happens when you beat the "best" team in the AFC.

I think it has more to do with sympathy for almost getting screwed by the league. Even I am still pissed off at that call.
