There is talk on USC boards of buying a billboard near LSU's stadium that says

Funny how SEC homers dont want to recognize AP titles, that would cause Auburn and Alabama to lose a few of the titles they claim

The problem I have the your AP title is that the AP agreed to play by the BCS rules and then changed the rules when it didn't work out like they wanted. Where I come from, when someone changes the rules in the middle of the game, thats called cheating. I don't blame USC, they were being screwed by the system, but it was a system everyone agreed to at the beginning of the season. Just because the AP goes rogue that does not mean they should be recognized for anything other than undermining the system.
In my mind the Billboard is legit.

And you'd be wrong...
The AP never agreed to change their vote. There was no stipulation that compelled them to vote in accordance with the BCS's ESPN/USA Today coaches vote...

when did the AP ever Agree to change their vote based on who the computers picked to play in the BCS title game? The fact that the coaches are forced to vote for who the computer polls tell them to vote for makes the coaches poll a joke

Oh suck it up SC, you were so polite post VY 200/200 but now we see the true colors shinning through.
The billboard is pretty tight and Vito is right on with that take.

so Vito has a link to where the associated press came out and said that they will agree to vote for whoever the chosen computers tell them to vote for?
The thing is USC was #1 in BOTH polls going in to the bowl games, the computer geeks that had USC behind schools like Miami of Ohio is what kept them locked out. The Associated Press didnt want to be told who to vote for and pulled themselves out of the BCS because of it

To my understanding the AP agreeded to be part of the BCS process. They agreed that the winner of the BCS championship game would automatically be crowned the AP National Champion. They broke that agreement when after LSU beat OU they instead gave their championship to USC.
Call it what you want, but those are the facts as I understand it.
Was there a problem with the selection process?
Did the computers weigh in too heavily?
I would say yes to both, but it was the process agreed to by every conference and by each polling service that partisipated in the BCS.
Did the AP do the right thing? It's debatible, what is not debatible is the AP undermined the system and contributed to destroying the system.
Now I'm not against destroying this system but only if there is a better option and so far the college football world ain't willing to fix it.

Auburn would have crushed USC in 2004. LSU in 2003. Swiss-10 is a joke.

They made no such agreement. They did agree to allow their polls to be part of the BCS ranking process, but that was the extent to which the AP was ever "part of the BCS process."

The AP never agreed to change their vote. You merely assumed they would and now you're trumpeting an erroneous assumption as fact.
The AP's only connection with the whole BCS process was to be one component in their overall scoring system. The AP never made any agreement to make sure their final vote matched the ESPN/USA Today coaching poll.
88, considering USC led Texas by twelve with six minutes left and would've won that game fairly easily were it not for a slew of uncharacteristic mistakes, yes, I'd say the AP writers (as well as the UPI coaches) were right on in having USC ranked #1 heading into that game.
USC's performance in the Rose Bowl certainly did nothing to belie that ranking. They ended up barely losing the game but their performance certainly didn't leave anybody saying, "Yep, they never belonged. They were exposed, yada yada..."
You people keep talking about class, and how much of it USC Fan showed following our Rose Bowl defeat?
Well, where's your class? All of a sudden the vultures are out and USC was a one season wonder?
Sorry, asswipes. They were the best program in the nation for four years running. They're two plays away from having three straight undefeated seasons and they're two plays and a choking kicker away from having four straight undefeated seasons.
Now you people are trying to revise history by saying the AP "cheated" in 2003, even though they were conspicuously operating autonomously; they were under
no contractual agreement to reverse their vote and vote against their conscience.
Only the coaches agreed to place themselves in that position. The writers did
not.
I'd like to see one of you present the contract that shows where the AP ever agreed to march in lock step with the ESPN/USA Today coaches, even to the point of being compelled to reverse their vote...
Comedy.
Class? From USC Hater?
From ND Fan, sure, and that's to be expected. The rest of you USC Haters though, you need to look in the mirror.

I'm forced to agree with Van. Why is everyone so offended by USC claiming a national championship in 2003? Just because ESPN repeadely tounges SC nation's collective asses and, in the process, totally ignores LSU doesn't mean that real college football fans feel the same way. There is no shame in title-sharing when the two best teams didn't play. Until the current (mockery of a) system is changed, its the only real solution in such a scenario.
Also, anyone who doesn't agree that USC has been the best program in the country for at least the last three years is either stupid or has alterior motives.

I didn't know they gave an award for the "best team the last three years". I don't think they would have beaten either SEC champ. That's two extra losses right there.

Nobody but nobody denies LSU their title in 2003. Had LSU won a title in 2004 and again been in the running in 2005 the media would've been talking "Three Peat!!" for them exactly the same as they did with USC...
The media was all over USC simply because they managed to sustain it for three seasons. (Four seasons, actually, considering their stature at the end of the 2002 season...)
The media would've been all over any top level team that did that...
T Rex, no, they don't give a "three year award". They give single season awards, and in 2003 the writers (the voting block that was free to vote their conscience) voted USC as their MNC.
Everybody did so again in 2004 and everybody did so again for nearly all of 2005. Had USC stopped VY on that final fourth and eight, ie, one play, all you'd be left to bitch about is some pet peeve notion that the SEC didn't get their crack at USC in 2003 and 2004...
It works both ways, hero. USC didn't get their crack at LSU in 2003 or Auburn last year, and with USC's offensive and defensive balance those two seasons you're not going to be able to make too much of a case that USC couldn't have beaten those two teams.

USC could not have beaten either team. Your conference plays shit for defense.....shit. Last year's AU team would have rolled USC.
note: Beating a team the year BEFORE has zero bearing on 2004

you would have to be a total fucking tool to not think that USC improved at least if not more than Allbarn did since USC embarassed those inbred fagots infront of their inbred fans the year before.
Leinart made his first start in that game, Bush and White were true freshman who never left the bench in their first game, the team was littered with guys making their very first start and Allbarn was a veteran team playing at home after some publications had them picked pre season #1

T Rex, you can bleat out "Shitty conference!" all you want and nobody gives a crap.
USC's D last year was damn good, and their O was flat out unstoppable.
Even this year, with all their defensive injuries, USC was one play away from beating a VERY good Texas team.
It's all purely conjecture as to what would've happened had USC gotten to face Auburn and LSU those past two seasons so nobody can say with any degree of certainty what would've happened...
However...nobody in their right mind would ever say that anybody would've ever "rolled" USC in any of the past four seasons...much less the last three.
Quit being an imbecile.

Face facts. USC was NOT the best team in the country in 2002. 2003, possibly. 2004, most definitely. 2005, definitely not.
USC LOST to both Kansas State AND Auburn.
You have NO argument that USC was the best team in 2002.
BtH, at no point have I ever said USC was the best in 2002. Obviously they weren't and I've never attempted to make any such argument.
I only include 2002 as part of their four year run because they probably were the third best team in the country by the end of 2002...
Also, no, they didn't lose to Auburn. They beat Auburn in 2002 at the Coliseum and then again in 2003 at Jordan-Hare. In 2002 they lost two early road game nail biters to Washington State and K State, when their kicker shanked some gimmes...
Again, nobody "rolled" 'em. The last time they truly got their asses kicked was at least five seasons ago.

Umm...I think that we have all shown class toward USC. The fans that I have been in contact with have been very complimentary of the game. What kills me is all this self pity shit. We had a 12 point lead with 6 minutes to go and made uncharacteristic mistakes. I would like to think that the Texas D had something to do with that. You lost. We won. It was a great game. Get over it. SC is recruiting like a ma fukker and will be back.
I just hope we can find a good QB between now and September 9.
