Sounds like the kid missed the point of the lesson. That means the lesson wasn't very well put together.

The teacher was wrong but the kid is a pussy. he should have just laughed it off, had fun w/ it and then keyed the teachers car on the way to the parking lot.

The teacher, John Kelly, forced Joshua Vannoy to sit on the floor and take the test Friday... Kelly also made other students throw crumpled up paper at Vannoy, whom he called a "stinking Denver fan"...

For starters, nobody pulling B's is getting into Stanford. So he (or his parents) were huffing glue when they thought his B average might translate into a slot at Stanford. And secondly, now that he totally understands that he will never be going to Stanford, he's swung back 180 degrees in the other direction thinking that his D average now won't even get him into a Community College system that is specifically designed to deal with academic fuck ups of all kinds.

Either he's insane or he's got no comprehension of what post HS life expects from him. I'll go with the latter.
