shocker...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
President Bush defended the huge profits of Exxon Mobil Corp. Wednesday, saying they are simply the result of the marketplace and that consumers socked with soaring energy costs should not expect price breaks.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Bush also addressed oil's future, offering a more ambitious hope than in his State of the Union speech for cutting imports from the volatile Mideast.
However, he said his oft-stated goal of a Palestinian state in the region cannot be realized if a Hamas-led government refuses to renounce its desire to destroy
Israel.
Bush, a former Texas oilman, said of oil costs, "I think that basically the price is determined by the marketplace and that's the way it should be."
So lemme get this straight. we're at "war", and a company is taking advantage of a very volatile market at the expense of the American people, reaping unheard of profits ( the largest quarterly corporate profits ever by a company in history) A threefold jump in profits from the usual and our president, who has constantly claimed heis acting in our best interests, thinks this is just hunky dory?
During the '94 northridge earth quake, several local gas stations and water businesses were cited for price gouging when they as much as doubled their prices. The furor from the public had two guys arrested before they were fined.
but, as long as the president says its ok....
after all, he has our best interests at heart.

My 400th fucking Post Wuu-Fucking-Who, doesn't match close to 4000 (got no life)
These fucks have got to go. I want lower taxes. I want a flat fucking tax. I want lazy mother fuckers to have to turn in bags of trash they collected before they collect their next welfare check. I want all political lobbyists to go the fuck away. I want there to be a college degree requirement for people to hold public office in cases where they are in charge of making budgets regarding my fucking tax money. I want all the jackasses complaining about medical marijuana to shut the fuck up, ( it is damn easy to grow quality weed in you're backyard when you get good seeds and don't tell anyone what you are growing. Shit, I am sick and tired of gay, mexican, dumbfuck, liberal, hayseeds reelecting Boxer and Feinstein to the Senate. What the fuck have they done for California, other than portray us as a bunch of pussy whipped needle dicks. Dammit most of all I am pissed that I voted for Bush. Fuck him and his latest comments and playing political football with the states that carried him. Fuck Bush for not standing up to the unions and helping Arnie out here.

What is supposed to be shocking?
That you have a problem with the law of supply and demand or that GWB is in your dome?

I sat stunned as Bush blamed Americans for buying too much oil....and that somehow justifies Mobil Oil's obscene profits.....
seriously, that shit is comedic gold....

A-Dad,
You expected a true conservative in Bush?
Enjoy knowing that NOBODY, even those you voted for, is representing you.
You might as well hook up with these guys.

I'm just glad that Bush finally came out strongly against human-animal hybrids. Pretty much changed my whole opinion about the man, 'cause I am all over that shit. I don't know about you but I'm not quite ready to see any dog-men (man-dogs?) moving into my neighborhood.

You see no difference between a company making aprofit and a compnay taking total advantage of a helpless public and gouging the living shit out of them?
There was ONE control that oil companies had, and that was the price they charge their vendors. They could have even have merely doubled their profits instead of tripling them and taken some of the pressure off the average American in a time of war.
But as usual Bush speaks with a forked tongue. He can't denounce the actions of his cronies as anti American ( It WAS us Americans that Exxon Screwed over, not the terrorists), so instead he backs them up while still saying we all have to stick together as one and fight terrorism.
Pretty damn hard to do when they sneak up behind you in a gasoline soaked American flag and stab you in the back....

It's not about the legal aspect of it, it's the moral one.
And their trouble is they have no morals.

Yes, expected response from you.
If Bush is going to be playing the "Trust my leadership" and "I am committed to protecting and defending American citizens" cards, He can't spin the taking money out of our hands and having it end up in the pockets of his oil friends into a good thing for America. It's total absolute Bullshit straight out of Catch 22.

I beg to differ....don't you realize it's "our fault" for Mobil reaping the biggest net profits in the history of mankind.....
we buy too much oil....

I'm not proposing that, however It'd be refreshing to have a leader who didn't try and convince us that the knife sticking out of our backs was not only good for us, but that it's out own fault for it being there.
Way too much hypocrisy going on here.

That the oil companies be held accountable instead of being lauded.
What part of triple profits at the expense of the American consumer during a time of war are you having difficulty with?

Opening up ANWR would be a start.
Or we could just play the malaise card, that worked so well in the seventies.
Why not a 'windfall profits' tax on home sales while we're at it, why should greedy bastards be making ungodly profits on real estate during wartime?

Yea, let's give the oil barons MORE profit. That makes sense.
Let me guess. You're one of these idiots who thinks the last year's spike in gas prices was driven by "market factors".

Apples and oranges. The oil companies fleecing the general public who have no choice, and private homeowners selling to willing individuals who do.

They aren't 'fleecing the public', they are responding to market forces (namely increased demand and scarcity of supply).
Housing speculators on the other hand, are fleecing the public by artificially driving up prices, which BTW disproportionatly effects those of modest means.

They did nothing different except raise gas prices to go along with the rise in oil prices when there was no need for them to do so to the extent they did. Triple the profits? The highest in history?
It was morally reprehensible but not surprising.
The fact that Bush supported that greed just reinforces his total transparency and dishonesty, which is the whole point here.

How many refineries did Katerina put out of commision again?

If refinery loss was the case, there would not have been such record profits.

I'll just take your word on that.
Actually I won't.
Do you have any evidence of collusion or conspiracy to defraud the public? If so, please forward to the DoJ. Orif you don't think they'll listen, send it to me and I'll tell them. According to Marty, all of us evil 'neocons' get together and decide shit like this.

The point is that I don't know who George Wallace or George McGovern are. Perhaps the inclusion of a George that understood the repressed - inner socialist rage in this thread might be appropriate.

George Wallace - racist southern governor from the 1960's
Also a current comedian
George Mcgovern - failed presidential candidate from a few decades back who had some mental issues. his notable quote:
"I have a piece of paper that proves I'm sane - where's yours?"

Coming from a 12 year old canadian, I'm not surprised.McGovern was the guy who wrote the rules that allowed the left to hijack the Democratic party in the seventies.
Wallace was the guy who was giving him a run for his money for the nomination when he got shot.
And Eagleton was the mental case, McGovern was just the idiot who picked him for veep.

I've just looked Wallace up and apparently he was a Klan leader and advocated some form of tribal society in the 1960s. Small wonder his name doesn't resonate in the history books of foreign nations, yeah? Leave garbage with garbage.
