All-time All-Iowa team errrr All-time All-Big-12 team...

3 Iowans made the all-time all-big-12 team (Kirk Hinrich, Nick Collison, Raef Lafrentz). Although none of them went to ISU (Marcus Fizer was on the team, however). Not too shabby considering everyone outside this state claims our high school basketball doesn't stack up with most of the rest of the country. And that is false. Considering the population of this state, the talent level is very good and probably better than any state with similar popuplation. There have been a lot of very good college and NBA players from the state of Iowa throughout the years. The first place team in arguably the best conference also happens to have 4 Iowans starting and 1 key reserve.

So props to the Iowa hoopsters!

Collison and LaFrentz have no business on that list. two of the most overrated players in conference history. Jabahri Brown dominated Collison a couple times. Jabahri fucking Brown.

it's a fan voting list....i woulnd't try and read anything too deep into it jon (except that KU fan voted a lot).....or get out the lotion and Hawkeye state tissues.

Paul Pierce, Chauncey Billups, or Hollis Price over Collison and Raef.

Price over Raef would even be a HUGE stretch, IMHO... Pierce or Billups over Raef isn't even arguable... No way.

But yeah, ALL of them over Collison.

...but JonBoy... If Iowa is the greatest thing since white bread (pun intended) then how come none of those guys stayed there to play ball?

Pierce was the best player on the floor for those KU teams.

you've got the #3 pick in the draft, who do you take: Billups or LaFrentz?

It's pretty clear OU fan still remembers Pierce dropping 30+ on them in his last home game.

I'm 99% sure the Big XII didn't want to honor someone who only played two years of college ball, so bye-bye Chauncey.

And I'm assuming pro "game" is not to be figured in compiling this team. If that's the case, there's nothing Pierce did as a collegian that Collison didn't do. Thanks go in part to ol' Roy, who coached his keeeyuds his way, but them's the breaks.

LaFrentz has no business being on the team.

Skull,

A lot of those players not going to an Iowa school had a lot to do with the coaching situations. I think had Tom Davis not been let go, Collison would have gone to Iowa. Hinrich had originally committed to Iowa State, but Tim Floyd left for the Bulls job, so he decomitted and went to Kansas because Roy Williams was stalking him!!! As for LaFrentz, I can't remember what happened, but something at Iowa made him mad so he ended up going to Kansas. He now has hatred for the U of Iowa because of something. He actually grew up an Iowa fan, but now roots against them. Perhaps Mook knows what I'm talking about as my mind is drawing a blank as to what happened. Tom Davis had actually given Kent McCausland a scholarship only so he could land LaFrentz (McCausland and LaFrentz were good friends). But LaFrentz ended up at Kansas and McCausland ended up becoming one of our best 3-point shooters of all-time.

Mook, do you know what happened to help LaFrentz land at KU? I just cannot remember it.

Jon - I don't know any story about LaFrentz getting pissed at Iowa. You are absolutely right about Hinrich and ISU. Lucky for Kansas that Roy's a stalker!! But I am unaware of any LaFrentz stories. I'll check it out with some people who would know. McAusland's a pretty cool guy. I met him at a KU game a couple of years back, apparently he has season tickets in Lawrence now. Small world.

Yep, McCausland has season tickets to KU. He owns a golf shop in KC. I remember about 8 years ago when you Jayhawk fans started chanting your Rock Chalk Jayhawk chant with a few minutes left against us, and then McCausland went nuts and we rallied and won and that snapped your 35+ home winning streak and our players did the Hoky Poky at center court. Come to think of it, I have a CD with clips from that game sitting here at work and I think I'll pop that in my CD player right now!! That was a great game!

bth,

I remember in 1999 Iowa played out in Denver for the 1st and 2nd rounds of the NCAA tournament and LaFrentz played for the Nuggets. I recall the DSM Rag writing an article about how he despises the U of I even though he is good friends with McCausland and that he was rooting for UAB (team Iowa was playing).
