They could win 8 straight titles, I still wouldnt support a basketball team. I would be more inclined to support a rugby or hockey team than basketball

The only sport I follow, college or pro, is football.

I will watch the world series, NBA playoffs and the NCAA tournament...but I don't have the time to follow them in-season.

Come on Meds.

Are you saying that if USC made the NCAA and won it, you wouldn't be sporting some kind of sig or av about it?

Hell, I'm sporing an A&M Lacrosse Av and we don't even have a lacrosse team. :)

No, he would, he just wouldn't watch the games or follow the team.

If USC had some filthy pussy in a basketball jersey and nothing more, then I might have that pic somewhere too.
USC seems to win a national title in one sport or another every year but you dont see SC fans changing their avatars or pimping those titles.
Basketball just doesnt matter to most USC fans

Bullshit. So when it comes time to talk about total national championships I'm sure you'll pull out some crap about how your mens equestrian team won a national title in the 1920's or some crap like that.

USC has a hockey team? News to me.

Then again, I was surprised to learn that you guys had a basketball team.

Can't speak for the SC contingent, but when it comes to me personally, football and men's basketball are the only college sports that matter. Period.

ND won a women's basketball national championship a few years back, but you don't hear me pimping that. ('Sup, Babs.) As a matter of fact, more than anything I was pissed that we got one in women's basketball before men's basketball -- if you had told me when I was a student at ND that that would happen, I would've said you were crazy.

I gotta throw baseball in there too Terry. You either love college baseball or you hate it. I'm one who loves it.

Hard for people in our region to follow it with any sense of normalcy. Cable companies in our area don't show a lot of college sports outside of what's on ESPN. And while they're doing a better job of showing games, it's going to take awhile to catch on.

I think college baseball is more of a regional thing, anyway -- big in the south and, to a lesser extent, the west, not so big in the northeast and midwest.

I've never been a big fan. It's not a revenue sport. And the sound of aluminum bats is rather hard to take above the high school level, at least for me. At a minimum, baseball at the college level is the redheaded stepchild to football and basketball.

USC has a club hockey team, I would have rather Galen put his millions in to building an ice rink in the Galen Center and USC scrapped varsity basketball and went varsity in hockey. Should be easy to recruit hockey players to USC.
Basketball is just a boring god damn sport, right up there with soccer

That's precisely what I am saying. I'd watch it, but you wouldn't find me grandstanding about it.

When are you dipshits going to learn to differentiate between bandwagon SC fans and Jimmy Medalions :?

I was kidding about not knowing that 'SC had a varsity basketball team. But seriously, do you honestly think the Pac-10 would let USC scrap basketball?
Should be easy to recruit hockey players to USC.
Yeah, because Southern California is such a hockey hotbed. :meds:

Or you could root for USC in football and UCLA in basketball.

I wouldnt root for anyone in basketball, even if it was USA vs Al Quaeda(sp?).

There are as many good hockey players in Southern California as there are football players in Indiana

Talk about your red herrings. ND recruits its student body nationally. Why should the football team be different?

This post should indicate that my credibility level is worth debating...If we once again start sucking in football, that sport too, will be as boring as soccer.....

Come again? I remember UCLA winning the championship in '95, don't remember another So Cal team reaching the Elite Eight since, although I could be wrong.

USC beat Kentucky in the Sweet 16 and lost to Duke in the 2001 East Regional Final.

Thanks, missed that.

I can recite Final Four from memory, but usually can't remember other members of the Elite Eight more than a few years out.

No basketball is boring like soccer because you have the offensive player standing infront of the defensive player with the ball and the defender can't hit him. WTF is that all about?
Make basketball full contact and it will be exciting to watch, likely the same could be said for soccer, other wise its just a bunch of bellerinas avoiding contact.
Sorry that those non contact sports are the ones UCLA and its fans care most about, maybe its because they are soft, maybe their mommies just wouldnt sign the Pop Warner waivers when they were 7, or perhaps its just that they have only beaten USC in football 27 times in 75 games, thats just the way it is, but Im pretty sure this place has a forum for both forms of ballerina ball that UCLA strives to be good at

I think IF was being a true San Francisco snob...all that stuff "down there" is part of...somewhere else.

Props. Last year, I was sitting on top of Twin Peaks with my friend who has lived there many years, and he points to the south, and says "yeah, and San Jose and that stuff is down there somewhere."

I laughed.

Oh. Then I politely revoke my comments -- except the part about my friend, which was absolutely true.

I think most consider anything north of San Jose/Palo Alto to be NoCal...but then again, it's a big place with a lot of people, so I'm sure opinions vary.

So Cal goes up to about San Luis Obispo, everything north of that is No Cal, or what the tree huggers who live up there call "Nor Cal"

Posted: Sat Feb 18, 2006 8:19 pm
by Dinsdale
I'm on the opposite end -- anything from around Roseburg south is part of NoCal. Sometimes, that area will only extend as far as Grants Pass, or possibly Medford on a really good day.

And as far as places to sit and have a brew and watch the world go by, Twin Peaks is a fine choice. I'd make some comment that involved "except for all the damned tourists," but since I don't live anywhere near there, I guess that would be some sort of KMOA, which I try to keep to a minimum -- like no more than ten times a day or so.
