While trying to update my laptop to SP2, I got a message saying that it was unable to copy the file logman.exe. I did a search and logman.exe was where it shoudl be, as well as being in one other different location. I tried to have it copy from both locations, no luck.

Any Idea what that file is, and if I can install SP2 without it?

If you couldn't access it, it probably means that the file was running (in use) and locked. I personally haven't run into logman problems while updating SP2 but if it happens to you, see if the program is running in your task manager and kill it. Alternatively, just reboot in case logman.exe crashed and left the program file locked.

No go. It was not listed in the task manager, and on a reboot, I ran into the same problem.

I'm going to try another desktop user.

Edit: No bueno. Can't copy this sucker on either user. Do you think it is safe to continue the install without copy this logman.exe file?

Yeah you are probably OK. This is probably why it tries to update it:

You could go and make sure you have your system performance monitor isn't set to monitor and log stuff. You could also try to figure out if there is another process that is using logman.exe. Its definately running. You could of course just go check and make sure you actually have permissions to that file, which you should.

You could download hotfix 827377 and apply it, or even try to apply it in Safe mode (not sure if this would work but you can try). Or just continue and see what happens.

I opted for "Just continue and see what happens" since I had a back up.

All went well, it said it was installed successfully.

At least so far. Tomorrow I'll try the blue tooth hook up.

Don't think safe mode would have worked, since you need to access the MS website for the download, and need the drivers for the MS labyrinth.
