Another DVD burning thread...

Ok, I'm trying to burn Season 1, disc 1 of The Office (British version, for those who care) and after I've run it through the whole DVD Shrink process, it still doesn't quite fit onto a standard DVD+R disc (even after deselecting all the possible "extra" files that I don't absolutely need). My burner is pretty basic and doesn't burn double layer discs so that's out of the question. I'm surprised Shrink cannot find a way to compress the 3 hours worth of shows (it's six shows at 30 mins apiece). So I have two questions:

1) Is there anything else I can do to compress this a bit more to make it fit and

2) If I can't do that, is there a way I can just split the shows up and burn 3 on one disc and 3 on another? I'm not sure which files i have to select from the ones Shrink stores on your hard drive in order to do this.

Also, if someone could answer before like 6 pm EST, that would be pretty cool.

I ran into the same problem when I tried to copy that disc. I decided to use DVD Lab to reauthor two discs with 3 episodes on each, complete with new menus. If you look at the directory of the disc you'll see 6 large VOB files that represent each episode. You can drag them into whatever DVD authoring software you have available.

Sweet, I'll try that. And you came in in the nick of time as well, as I'm about to close up shop. RACK YOU.

If you want to stick with DVDShrink, you can split the DVD into two disks or shorten the movie by selecting the main titles in the editing menus, and setting a start and finish time.

I've done this with longer movies to chop off the opening and closing credits to improve quality.

That works for a regular movie, but it gets complicated when you're talking about a disc with six episodes of a tv series (each considered a main title).

That's just as easy. Seperate the titles and even do a little back and front editing.

A compression rate of 65% is not bad, although I like to shoot for at least 75% when I can.

In DVDShrink, you need to "Re-author".

I'm fairly new to DVD shrink, and I completely looked over the Re-Author option the first time around. I couldn't believe how easy it was to split it up. Just dragged the files over and it was simple as that.

Thanks dudes.

I'm glad you got it to work.
