Anybody have an ambient music recommendations?

I was a little stressed out yesterday and I was listening to the Pure Moods albums on my Yahoo Music Engine. It helped.
I'm going to be painting the whole interior of the house we just closed on starting next week and I was going to burn some soothing songs to paint to in order to ease the stress. Anybody have any artist recommendations? Something with a slight uptempo, minimal lyrics and interesting melodies and harmonies?

I have like eleventeen thousand different "The Ultimate Chillout" albums like the one below. I once made sweet love to my hand to the 2002 one. We then had wine and a sponge bath.

To each their own, right?
I find this to be quite soothing while fighting traffic. Not sure how it would go with painting...
Sort of a fusion of American "traditional" and classical chamber music.
Mark O'Connor started out as a country/bluegrass fiddle virtuoso.
Edgar Meyer is considered one of the top string bass players in just about all genres - classical, bluegrass and jazz.
You've probably heard of Yo-Yo Ma before.
It may not suit your taste, but the artistry here is awesome.

Yeah, I have the Massive Attack album. It's nice.
As for those that don't like it, I normally don't listen to ambient music, but this week, I got into work and was just feeling the stress of buying my new house and the laundry list of stuff I need to do before we move in, so I turned to the Pure Moods albums. A lot of it is non-distinctive crap, but some of it is quite pleasing.

I'm not really sure what qualifies as ambient, but here's my recommendation anyway...

I realize you requested something specific, Mr. Large, but I just can't abide.
I've done plenty of home improvement on a professional basis (did I mention "plenty"?), and any sort of "ambient" music is about the last thing a guy needs.
If'n I'm going to get serious about coating some drywall, it's got to be metal. If I really feel like toning it down, I'll go with some mellow, "ambient" sounds like Death Cab or Nickel Creek...or more likely, my local station that plays adult contemporary. But that's toning it way the hell down.
Any sort of background or "ambient" music is the last thing you need. Take it from the pros -- it doesn't matter if everyone else at a jobsite is 70 years old...you show up and start cranking up some "ambient" music at any sort of construction/remodel job, you're either about to take an asskicking, or you're about to get a hammer through the top of your boombox....because at a construction jobsite, the man with the biggest boombox chooses the music, and the man with the biggest hammer reserves the right to change it.
Just my ever-abrasive $0.02.

AND, actually, ambient music will put you to sleep. You need energy to paint. So I'd put in something a bit more funky.

I'm still waiting to take crap for refering to Death Cab as "ambient" painting music.

Thanks for the suggestions. As for putting me to sleep, keep in mind that I'll be painting with my wife, who refers to my entire music collection as "whiny rrorrorrorror" music. So I'm looking for stuff that she'd enjoy, too, which is why I'm leaning toward ambient.

It's not Icelandic, but a made-up language called "Hopelandic". I do like them, and also recommend The Album Leaf who are along the same lines.

My suggestion would be Carbon Leaf - "Indian Summer".

Vulgar Display Of Power would probably make some good "ambient" painting music...or so I've heard.

wife has a bunch of Spaceman 3 on vinyl. I don't know much about them other than the heroin joyride band that Mr. Spaceman later fronted.

"Dreamweapon" is radically different from their typical stumped fuzz shit. It's basically just some tripped sitar repeated over and over and over. A great disc to rip ass to...

Oh, brother. The day I listen to a take on anal from a married guy will be the same time I listen to music recommendations from the indiedorks here.
One of these days, I relly will tell the tale of the last barskank I nailed in the pooper. I'll have to be in the right mood, and it will have to be timed with a moment where I feel my stomach is feeling exceptionally strong.

It's called an "overly-dramatic run-up."
But I assure you, when the day comes that I'm so inspired, it will be worth it, and may even write a new chapter in Trollâ„¢ lore.
